Another great Video! Loving the series, and keep up the great work!! Do be careful with Sodium Hydroxide, as I understand it, the chemical reactions change depending on the tanks PH (and the concentration of sodium hydroxide used). Well above a level of 8pH, the Sodium Hydroxide has some interesting and beneficial by-products when combined with CO2 in the tank. HOWEVER it is my understanding that below a level of 8pH, you run the risk of producing Carbonic Acid as it interacts with the excess CO2. (I have no scientific training - just read a bit around the subject as I wanted to use Sodium Hydroxide in a different way for my tank). Good luck.

Thanks Robert! Appreciate the watch. I'll have to look into your question - I haven't heard that Sodium Hydroxide has more potential to react to form carbonic acid than any other ALK additive (this is the opposite reaction of why we add it to the tank) - as when pH drops using any ALK additive the reason it does so is partly the formation of carbonic acid from C02 in the water. Your caution is warranted though in general , as sodium hydroxide is a stronger base that other ALK additives. But, because of that it is also easier to reach a higher pH (mine stays between 8.1-8.25). Looks like I have some reading to do, as I'm not a chemist either! : )

Nicely thought out. 👍 on the acrylic fab skills. I learned the hard way the tape is necessary 6:03 cause somehow the roller on the router bit scuffs the acrylic. 🥴. I really want to try the bending process. Do you just use saw blade with one pass about half way deep? Great ideas in this video. 👍
@ReefEco
@ReefEco 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks LL - yes, found out the hard way as well on the bearing scuffing the acrylic! I know exactly what you mean... As for the scoring, yup - I usually go half as deep as the sheet, then about 2/3 as wide as the sheet thickness, so when you bend it the edges of the score don't run into each other. I'm addicted to the bend acrylic look - totally slick! Thanks for watching!

I think you need to start selling these containers that's an excellent job I like to detail work and you said you had your dosing pump hooked up to your Apex would like to see a video of how you have that setup and maybe even a how to step-by-step I've been in the hobby for about 3 years I started out with a 30-gallon move to a 55 gallon and now I have a 94 gallon with a 40-gallon DIY sump my old 55 gallon aquarium my pH was always 8.2 8.3 with my new aquarium my pH is 8 to 8.1

Thanks Bald8bil - I'll add it to my potential video list! Is your dosing regime between the old 55 and the new 94 any different?
@BALD8BIL
@BALD8BIL 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReefEco I have never done dosing before 94 gallon my LFS told me to start adding 3 tbsp of Kent superbuffer-dKH to my ro-di container it's 7 gallon and it lasts me 12 to 14 days before I have to refill it and I started adding Kent superbuffer-dKH about 3 months ago
@ReefEco
@ReefEco 2 жыл бұрын
@@BALD8BIL That is your problem - stop using superbuffer! It adds extra borate, which can get things out of whack. And by adding it to your top off, you are dosing ALK according to your evaporation rate, not your coral consumption. What corals do you have? Are you adding any calcium supplement? If you have some stony corals, I would look into starting to dose Kalkwasser, which is much better than dosing superbuffer (and far cheaper!), as it adds calcium and alkalinity in a balanced way, and also boosts pH. You will need to test for Alk and Calcium, if you aren't already. Check out the Hanna Alk checker (Dkh) and I use the Red Sea Pro calcium test. Before you start dosing kalk, I'd do a string of at least two 25% water changes to correct the imbalance the superbuffer has created, then you'll have a nice foundation for dosing kalk. If you do have significant LPS or SPS corals, you could also look into dosing two-part ALK and Calcium. Kalk may be enough though, depending on your ALK/CA demand.

@@ReefEco sorry it took so long to get back to you in my old aquarium I had a bad green hair algae and aiptasia very bad so my new aquarium I started with all new equipment in 3 months I moved over 2 clownfish 1 green chromis,cleaner shrimp and my butterfly fish but it died so my wife got 1 coral beauty, sand sifting sea star,1 yellow watchman goby, and 1 bristletooth tomini tang in October 2021 we add 1 green montipora, 1 red montipora, 1 trumpet coral,rainbow acan echinata, red bowerbanki coral, in November we got hammer coral,purple jade bonsai acorpora coral,and this one is not doing good red goniopora coral but it looks pink now I test my water every Saturday around 2pm but ph and salinity my apex so I check it every day 2 to 6 times. Kh is 10.5,CA 430 to 450,MG 1290 to 1230,ammonia is 0 from June 18 2021 to now,no2 is 0 from June 23 2021 to now, n03 is 0 from August 21 2021 to now, phosphate is 0 from July 23 2021 to now, salinity jump from 34.9 to 35.7, ph 7.95 in August to 8.21 in February, every 10 to 14 days I top off 7 gallon ro-di, every 2 to 3 weeks I do a 30 gallon water changes I have upload videos of my aquarium setup to Facebook saltwater groups under BILLY Baldwin
@ReefEco
@ReefEco 2 жыл бұрын
@@BALD8BIL No worries - you definitely have some stony corals in there, you might look into dosing kalkwasser - it might be all you need since you don't have too many corals. It also looks like your phosphate and nitrate are 0? Getting those up to around 0.03 to 0.05 for phosphate and nitrate to 5-10ppm will likely make your corals a little happier...
