Derek Scott and I got to meet one last time here on the podcast. I want to share with you what I know because a lot of you have asked. You will find out a lot in this episode from Derek himself.
I was among a small group who knew he was sick and when he was passing. After we recorded the episode I got to read his book and watch a session between him and Dick Schwartz, the founder of IFS. My understanding is you will be able to see this incredible session when you buy the book.
His book will be available soon- sign up for the launch here: Dead (Spoiler Alert): a Psychotherapist's Journey With Cancer - Market - Webflow Ecommerce Website Template (healthible.co)
If you haven't heard of Derek Scott, I invite you to go to KZfaq and check out his channel. Many of us in the IFS community learned so much by watching his videos. He and I recorded a full IFS session on video three years ago. He would text me periodically and let me know how many people had watched it. I just looked -- it has 70,000 views!
Derek ran an organization called IFSCA, based in Canada, which teach IFS courses. In all the years I’ve known Derek he is clear to honor Dick Schwartz, the founder of IFS. He makes it known that his courses are not IFS trainings. He was always careful to distinguish that and to be so respectful of Dick. If you go to the podcast page on my website and search for Derek Scott, you will see several episodes we did together. Over the years he would text me and say, "Hey do you wanna talk about such and such?" I’d always say yes.

He was a friend, and I am so grateful for his presence in my life. The last text I received from him was a week before he died, and it was just this emoji … 🤸‍♀️
Sending you all so much warmth and compassion as you listen to this episode.
All my love,
Tammy

I’ve already met Derek on the spiritual plane during my IFS work. HE actually led me to him and told me to call on him as an ancestor for some extreme shame work I needed help with-it happened the day after he had passed. Not only was it the most incredible IFS session I ever had-it also proved to me there WAS life after death and I could finally relax knowing my loved ones who had passed are still with me. Which was also something Derek knew I needed deep healing around! I adore Derek and never even met him before he passed-and now he’s my iFS BFF! ♥️

Loved what Derek stated about IFS in hospice work. Perhaps IFS can be utilized with the Death and dying process. This interview was excellent in how Tammy held space for Derek as he talked about his transitioning. We are all dying essentially. We will all eventually return to our Spiritual Source/The Spirit Realm. Thank you Tammie and Derek.

Tammy and Derek, thank you so much for this beautiful gift ❤. I was drawn to Derek as a teacher because I wanted to learn IFS for working with people in grief, and I knew he had extensive experience from his work in the 80s. I took Stepping Stone in fall of 2023, which ended up being the last course he taught. I had no idea how much he would end up teaching me about grief, and I know that education from him will continue as I read his book, enjoy the recordings he made that haven’t been released yet, and experience him as an ancestor. I am so incredibly grateful to have been touched my him, and I’m grateful to you for sharing these beautiful and much needed messages from him. What you both are sharing about dying (and also about living) is immensely needed in the world, so thank you. ❤️

I can't thank you enough for posting this Tammy. As much peace as Derek had around his passing, my grieving part is incredibly sad. What a marvelous human he was and I can imagine an incredible ancestor too.
