@@brandonparrett2436 I think that’s just a now problem because of the new eForms. Everybody made a run on the silencers cause they are hoping to be approved in 30-90 days. I would get on an email list and make sure you buy one the second they come available. I had no problem ordering mine first week of December. I know Deadair pumps them out like crazy so they should have some of those in stock rather quickly just be sure to act fast.

Ditto. Bought my first in April of last year(2021), but it's still pending. Was actually considering getting two, or even three(a .22, an OSS helix 5.56k, and an OSS helix in 7.62), but I ended up just getting the 5.56 can. Kind of regret that now. I also really want a 9mm or .45 van, but due to the ridiculous gun laws here in CT, pistols can't have threaded barrels(unless they're .22's), so I'm kinda screwed there.

I’ve never been on a range with anybody using a silencer. But I recently got to go the other way. I’ve been shooting my 300 win mag with a break since I got it. Last time I was at the range the guy next to me was shooting a 300 win mag with a break. So I finally got to experience the concussion from his rifle. After he left I had to apologize to the couple that had been shooting beside me. I had never realized just how much blast my rifle was throwing at everyone else around me.

Thanks for covering this. Very informative. I suffered a viral hearing loss in one of my ears. I need to protect what hearing I have left. It’s funny that I make it 23 years in the field artillery, 40 years around racecars, snowmobiles and concerts and a virus kills my hearing. As you can tell, I took good care of my hearing up to the virus.

My first suppressor wait time was about 11 months. My second took right at 5 months. My third was right at 7 months. I submitted my fourth at the beginning of October so hopefully it’ll be back by early spring. I probably shouldn’t have watched this video cause it makes me think about my wait time but I’m enjoying your podcasts and will need to find a new dealer as my dealer is going to drop his suppressor SOT. I really appreciate what Silencer Shop has created so I’ll probably use them for future purchases. Great job guys, keep it up.

As a guy who been in gunfights in Afghanistan, never wearing hearing protection at all...yea the adrenaline does kinda mask it alot. I've shot .50 cal. Machine guns with no ear pro, my m4, my saw and none of it really affected me. I did notice after a good firefight that my hearing was damp thou but some of it came back after a while. Luckily I don't have tinnitus (IDK HOW)...but the day I went " yea...I need to do something about this" and had Peltors mailed out to me was during a firefight an SF guy decided to let off 5 Carl Gustav rounds right next to me. First round....fuck. that hurt. Second round...wow ok this isn't fun. Third round...I need to bound to another point of cover away from this guy. Fourth round......yup. I'm deaf now. I fell to the ground. Everyone thought I got shot. I got dizzy, disoriented, got up and threw up. He picks me up and goes "yup, thats why we wear ear pro" and after that day I never even shot a .22 without hearing protection. Once I became a civilian again and got into guns...a suppressor was an absolute must for every single gun I own. ,

@@jmkhenka youre given "standard" ear pro but its just little earbuds. No electronic ear pro. Id rather have my ears get muffled a bit from some gun fire and be able to communicate with my team, then have ear plugs in and not hear a damn thing thats going on. Also made it difficult to hear where receiving fire was coming from. I bought electronic ear pro with my own money. The army should probably look into issuing such stuff as the new standard ear pro

@@Kaotix_music yeah active headsets are great. Use them when hunting and on the range (when I'm alone i also use plugs+earpro if I'm not shooting suppressed wich single set is enough). Great that you can still talk and hear everything and with good earpro they can even increase certain noises giving you better hearing. But some earpro is not that great at directional awareness, but basic at least tell u left from right.

Think of them as hearing protection for everyone, not just a set of ear plugs for you. I got my first in July of 1996, it took over nine months and I worked at the shop at the time. I was an FFL and doing gun shows when Blue Grass Armory asked to do some trading. They built a bolt action rifle for me with a full length intrical suppressor, in exchange for several H&K MP5 accessories. Even today it's cool as hell.

As to what it's like getting in a fire fight inside a room with no ear pro, at least in my experience, your ears "turn off" pretty quickly. So kinda like a temporary deafness. I noticed that this happens in outdoor fire fights too. Inside a building, you basically just feel the concussion, in your whole body, from your rifles and from the enemies rifles and frags and stuff. Then your ears are ringing for a week and it's like you're wearing ear muffs the whole week because you can't hear crap. Eventually it "returns to normal" but it's painfully obvious that the permanent damage is there.

Silencer Shop is doing the Lord's work. Sure they aren't the only company around and I often support my local shops but IMHO they have made suppressors close to mainstream(in the firearms). Also pay close attention to what he said when he was talking about the Single Shot and adding people.

So this was great, thanks for doing it. Learned a lot, helpful to get a push to get going on one. And very glad Silencer Shop is doing something (big effort actually) to help make the government mess a bit easier. The trust seems like a great option too. However. That said... there are some things that need to be made more clear than what I got from this podcast. The process works best if you buy from Silencer Shop and pick up from a Silencer Shop designated dealer, and to use the SilencerShop kiosk at the dealer. As seems to be suggested, it's not quite so simple if you buy from another retailer and try to use the kiosk for the just the paperwork, stamp, trust. As I have discovered in a slightly painful way. Since it's hard to find stock of what you want, sometimes you need to go with whatever retailer has what you need. (I wish that was not the case but here we are.) Then the kiosk process only works if the kiosk location/Silencer Shop dealer will do an inbound transfer from your other retailer. Not all do - yes, I'm looking at you unnamed-chain-of-range/stores. Or, they say they do, and then when your paperwork is all done then they deny the transfer request from your retailer. And if you buy from a 3rd party then you HAVE to deliver to a Silencer Shop dealer AND that dealer must agree to take outside sales inbound transfers. So, lesson learned, ask questions of the Silencer Shop dealer first. And Silencer Shop, since you are reading, you might try to tighten up/clarify/standardize the requirements for your dealers who host the kiosks. I went to two, the staff treated those things like the plague, would not answer a single question, two stores in the same chain differ in answers on transfers, etc. But again, THANKS Vortex for shedding a lot of light on this process.

One of the best ads I’ve seen for suppressors is a hunter with a dog. E.g., shouldn’t we be protecting man’s best friend’s ears too? You’d think PETA would be all for suppressors, but a good proportion of those people also probably want to take away your guns. However, I think pushing the animal protection side of things is the way to approach congress, because I think most people would stop for a hurt animal on the side of the road, but not want to get involved if it’s a person. Pessimistic, I know, but it’s the direction our society is headed in. I’m waiting on 2 suppressors, but at 8 months nothing yet. Thanks ATF!

In Denmark we don’t need a permission to buy suppressors, as long as you have a permission for a rifle. It’s like buying ammunition. In Denmark we have more restrictive gun laws than the US, but our politicians have finally seen the light with suppressors. Suppressors are just a part of a system it’s kind a like buying a scope.

Sweden is also considering removing licensing for supressors this summer. We also have limitations on what guns we can use them on - 22LR is almost impossible to get supressor-license on as for now, but 222 and up is ok. But laws are weird, my 22 Hornet has almost identical loudness with and without a supressor as a 222R but I need separate license (wich is hard to get, relatively) for the 22H.. And where i use the 22H, its better suited then my 6.5 grendel or 308 but I dont want to irritate people around me uneccecary.

@markbirkett3505
@markbirkett3505 2 жыл бұрын
@@VortexNation We have to have a “need” for every firearm, eg. Deer Stalking, pest control etc. Each application usually requires an interview with a Firearms Police Officer. Sound Moderators are treated as separate firearms because they need ‘proofing’, so we apply for the firearm and a moderator at the same time. If we only apply for a firearm, we are usually encouraged to apply for a moderator for it as well. I have six rifles ranging from .22lr up to 300WM. Each rifle has its own moderator. We are not allowed pistols. An important note to anyone new to using moderators: Remove them from your rifle for storage! If they are left on the rifle, they will corrode the crown or even weld to the thread.

Still waiting on my first silencer, an OSS Helix 5.56K that I ordered through silencer shop last April. It's still pending approval. I've never bought one any other way, but between the silencer shop website, their kiosk, my local gun store, and filing electronically, I was actually very surprised at how quick and easy it was. In the UK, One of the hardest places to get a firearm other than Australia or maybe the Philippines. They encourage all shooting clubs and hunting clubs to use suppressors because of noise pollution. Just like you guys stated in a previous video, you can basically go down to the local hardware store, but really you have to walk into your local gun shop. Throw down $50 or a $100 get a suppressor. To get ammunition you have to have a license that they track so that they know how much ammunition you have. To get a firearm you have a 6 month to one year waiting period with a with a full background check and Psyche evaluation before you're deemed eligible to have a firearm. You're taxed on each firearm just like the NFA.

Man, the "worlds best gun law" never stops to amaze me. Here in Norway, I can buy wichever supressor I want , no registration. Just as other hearing protection. Allso , we use light 10-15oz 150-350$ 30db (.30) supressors because if you damage it you just buy a new one. My impression is that you yanks buy heavy overbuilt supressors, as if you break it, you have to wait up to a year to get a new one. Ofcourse, I can't buy a AR15 for hunting, but I can buy semi-autos with fixed stock and max 10rnd mag, like a browning BAR. I CAN buy AR15's, but have to register and train with a aproved shooting club. Same with handguns and PPC's.

Sounds like us Yanks win this showdown. We can own not only AR-15s, but all the others like FALs, Galil's, AUGs, and all the H&K's you can afford. Just walk in, pay for it, call in a background check and your out the door and gone within an hour. I live out in the country on a mostly unused road. Every one of my neighbors have AR-15s along with other rifles, handguns and shotguns, it's the norm.

Bobs only hold up is Bob. If he doesn’t go get the stuff notarized he hasn’t use your stuff. I ordered 2. I will give my son 2 addendums to go get motorized and give back to me. Then he can use ether one.

based solely on the video title, I was hoping for information on how to narrow down the choice of suppressor from all the ones available available to the general public - a lot of *_REALLY_* good, valuable information was provided on the application process, the different types of trusts/their pros and cons, what actually owning, using, traveling with a suppressor involves, etc. but what *_WASN'T_* covered or discussed from the standpoint of the suppressor *_purchaser_* were *_criteria_* for the buyer to use in determining the suppressor's *_best_* intended purpose, the types of firearms to be suppressed, the calibers of the firearms being suppressed, the type of ammo for suppressed firearms, routine suppressor maintenance , changes in routine firearms maintenance, construction material, design, price or dollar value and how these subjects potentially affect your *_SELECTION_* of which suppressor to lay down your hard earned cash for - don't get me wrong, I actually watched the video *_twice_* and learned something new both times . . . maybe just be a little more discerning about how your videos are titled 😋 forget what I said . . . just came across Ep. 183 and got all questions answered 👍🏽

I'm still baffled at how much these cost for such a small amount of material used to construct them. You can buy a very nice firearm for the cost of most of these.

NFA stamps give the government $84 million a year. Do you think the cartel, sorry I meant the ATF, would give up that money train?

@@nk-dw2hm Really??? Because atf "interpets" law all the time. Pistol brace, bump stocks, 80% lowers, frt's, shoe strings, rubber bands, gloves, auto key card drawing. All of those things atf prosecutes with full force without laws being made or changed
@nk-dw2hm
@nk-dw2hm Жыл бұрын
@@BcFuTw9jt how stupid are you? 80% lowers aren't prosecuted at all, they just had to stop selling the very specific build kits that came with everything in one box. Instead you just get multiple boxes with everything you need... pistol braces are also still legal despite all the fear mongering by your favorite fake news spreaders. Ps the bump stock change was a directive from the president, but you don't hear the gop complaining about that for some reason. Weird how selective the outrage is...

I own 2 suppressors. One for home defense the other for pest control on a 22. I do not hunt with a suppressor and never will. I have a pair of Razor earbuds that magnify ordinary sounds and block the noise that are dangerous. I put them in and often forget about them. They’re fantastic! Putting a suppressor on a rifle with a barrel longer than 16” is a cumbersome task at best in the field.

Here in Australia I WISH we only had to pay 200 bucks and wait 8 months. Suppressors are outlawed Here unless you are a gunsmith ( and that's only to work on them ) or a contract pest controller ( a VERY difficult job to get )

Is oddly enough James Moses Browning was the one who invented the gun muffler or as we call them now suppressor and he also created the muffler for vehicles anichols and he created the 2 companies separately separately off of the same principles 1 tone took off the other 1 was banned

So long as people understand that the cost of a suppressor and tax stamp can cost more than your rifle, I suppose that this is a reasonable video. Also that the price of suppressors is an elaborate con, because the value of the materials and labour are negligible

Want to share my experience with into new female shooters with and without a suppressor. My x- wife, was a city person. Once I exposed her she loved to hunt. I did not have a suppressor when I took her to a range 1st time. She shoot 10 rounds of 22lr and 5 of 9mm. Hated it. Her words, I'm being kicked at the same time a firecracker goes off near my head. My oldest daughter no suppressor, she believes in owning a gun for protection but hates shooting bc of the noise. My youngest daughter and my wife now, I waited until I got my 1st can. My baby girl asks if we can go out and shoot every week.y wife enjoys it but not big into it. Had my now wife first shot unsuppressed she would never shoot a gun again. The perceived recoil of an unsuppressed gun scares away women. They seem to be far more sensitive to it. Even tho every female I have shown their 1st time shooting I always start with 22lr. Anyone who wants to get girls, women, or little boys involved do it suppressed. Far greater results and more positive experience for any new shooters. Just the positive experience for my daughter and the great experience I had that day is worth the cost and wait.

In all honesty I really dislike trying to buy a suppressor. In part because of the red tape, but darnit it always feels like whoever is working doesn't want to deal with it either and makes the whole experience a pain haha.
