Let's plunge into nitric oxide and why it's so important with Dr. Nathan Bryan, the preeminent expert on this life-enhancing magic molecule and the author of The Nitric Oxide Solution.
Listen to this episode of Plant-Strong and you'll learn:
What is nitric oxide? (No, it’s not the laughing gas you get at the dentist.)
What happens to our body’s ability to create nitric oxide as we age?
What foods can we eat to pump up the production of this magic molecule?
What is its role in our heart health? And why do so many common over-the-counter products like mouthwash, antacids and antibiotics crush our body’s ability to produce nitric oxide?
Today, we want to give you what your body needs, so listen in closely and say “YES” to N.O. - nitric oxide!

Your Dad is one of my heroes and you are great, too, thanks! I'm on Mcdougall's diet strict since age 48, 5 years ago. I lowered cholesterol from 210 mg/dl (high) to 125 (ideal) very quickly. I fixed high heart rate, high blood pressure, and weight. I have been healthy except blood pressure is slightly high at 125/85 last I checked awhile ago. Your Dad and Mcdougall's concept of being strict through elimination has been key. Many people in our lives say 'just have a little'. No one has been supportive of such an idea of elimination to improve health until I saw the excellent doctors.

I've loved every piece of advice I've gotten from the Esselstyns for 12 years now. I believe in the importance of N.O. and love ideas for increasing it. I'm only questioning the part about Fluoride toothpaste. I can't find reputable scientific websites to back that up. Yes, it's a neurotoxin in high doses, but every primary source I find still recommends the small amount in toothpaste. I believe I must be looking in the wrong places. help?

What about the nitrates that cause cancer? The nitrates they add that are not naturally occuring in as a preservative to some meats like bacon-these are known carcinogens. Chemistry is complex. I am still not sold on high levels of nitrates from added synthetic chemicals to the soil to make the plant grow faster and better. Do you have randomized controlled studies or is this a theory?
