Ep. 40 Replacement Chateau Gates Revealed - they're here at last!

A year and a half since the first set of new gates was put in, their replacements have finally arrived - along with the matching Portion! If you saw Ep. 21, you will already know that the new gates we ordered back in 2021 had to be replaced, just months after they were installed, because the more than 500 screws used in their construction were not rust proof, and were therefore compromising the integrity of the doors. At 250kg each, this was no small order. So this week, Jason and Taylor were back again to re-install the new new gates, and all just in time, with only a few days to go before our Spring Fair...

Thanks Tracy! By the way, what would you say is the best way to preserve Red Cedar? Should we oil it with boiled linseed & turps?
@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries
@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries Жыл бұрын
@@jennyschateaufarm Yes l would Jenny use boiled linseed oil with turps ? The turps mixed with the boiled linseed helps spread the oil better and drys quicker and it will bring out the lushness of the Red Cedar 🤗xx

Hi Jenny. I love the doors. That cedar should hold up well against weather and insects. You can put some hooks on it and hang your woolens and furs on it. 😅😂 Are Jason and Tayler the same ones that put the others doors with the rusty screws in? Are they father and son? Looks like they did a good job.

Hi Claudia, We’re not sure yet what we’ll treat them with, if anything. The local advice is to wait a a while before treating them, as the wood still has a lot of oil, moisture and tannins.

Hello just saw your video love your gates but I’m thinking a long lasting clear lacquer that will withstand weather and last a long time before having to reapply it?? We did that with our out door tongue, and groove porch ceiling we here in America use Thompson’s water seal not sure what you would find out there but we’ve used it and it’s last for over 20 years. We live in New Mexico and I’m in the mountains & we see it all!!! Anyway love your new gates!!
