In this episode, we visit my favourite brocante, and learn about Abbe Pierre, the founding father of Emmaüs, as well as about what the charity does, has done in the past, and how it is evolving to keep up with modern day online demand.

Thank you so much for this! I was aware of Emmaus and had done a bit of my own research. I think it is an excellent model to copy for todays challenges. We have several social “ charities” here in Canada, that have become for profit corporations, and do not warrant their Charity status. The severe disabling drug epidemic is creating absolute chaos everywhere, and no-one can find a means of dealing with housing and successful treatment. I think this model, with built in pathways for individuals to transit through from jail or streets, into housing and treatment , moving into vocational , skills building , and hopefully on to independent living is desperately needed.

OK, I am a crafter and I was drooling. What a wonderful charity and Abbe Pierre sounds like a saint (or should be one). I enjoyed that story very much. Shelly, Durham, North Carolina

Hello, I can understand why you say Emmaus is your favourite Brocante. It is so clean and tidy and everything is well organised. There were many pieces either of crockery, glassware and furniture which just draws your eyes. Truly a worthwhile cause to support. Now onto the next episode.

The brocante visits are wonderful! And Emmaus is a treat- I’ve been to the ones near Amboise and Geneva but they are not close to being this large (although they are beautifully organized!)

Loved your informative vlog about Emmaus. I’ve heard so many good things about Emmaus, but never knew the origin of the charity shop. What a wonderful story about a precious man and his divine calling. He indeed left behind an ongoing blessing to a world in need. Thanks for sharing. Loved seeing your treasures.

Thank you for sharing this. Emmaus features a lot in many vlogs by expats in France but few know anything about it other than the bargains to be had. (Some time ago I suggested to a well known Chatelaine, that frequents her local Emmaus regularly, should vlog about Pere Andre and the story behind Emmaus. Sadly I received no response.) We have 3 Emmaus shops in towns local to me in Hampshire, UK, and Winchester has flats and a programme for helping men get back on their feet run and financed by the Emmaus Charity.

Hi Barbara, Thank you for comments. Yes I have seen many other vloggers shopping in Emmaüs, and was curious to know more about it. The little research I did was so interesting I just had to share it! Since editing my video I realised that Emmaüs is active in many more countries than I was aware of, including the USA and the UK. Some links to find out more are in the video description. Thanks again for your comments, I’m so glad to hear they are active near you 💕👍🏼💕

Thanks for this info about Emmaus. I’ve heard so many Chatelaines talk about it but didn’t know that it was an organization with a mission. I work for a charitable organization that is building housing for the homeless so I feel connected to this mission.

Hi Camille, Yes me too! So many people have done so many videos about shopping in Emmaüs, and it was bothering me that no one ever stopped to explain what it's really about. It's really very inspiring that is has been so successful and continues to be so into the 21st century. I think they even have one or two location in the USA. Best wishes and thank you for watching, Jenny : )

I went to the Emmaus by Lalande and wondered around for hours. I took with me that day only pictures of all the stuff. I am pretty strict with my purchases now to only things I actually need. My new apartment will be well thought out in France and hope to source mostly everything from these type of stores
