In this episode I show you around our vaulted cave (cellar), because frankly, it's the coolest place to be. I discover an abandoned fireplace mirror and painting, that I had not idea was there, and then we drive over 2000 km north to see family and friends in Sweden.

Good afternoon Jenny, just a vast sunflower field. How beautiful is that?!! The cellar is so big and those walls are thick as you can get. Love the arch roof, it is just amazing. The trip to Sweden must have been very tiring and demanding, but so worth it. I love the red painted houses. Is just so Sweden. That Honesty Shop is something else. Here in South Africa I do not think it would last an hour and all the produce would be gone and no payment left either. Very shameful I must add. My daughter tipped some compost they had onto their pavement for the Lollipop Trees, as it was home made compost, not long after tomatoes and butternuts developed and as they were going on holiday told me to come and pick the produce, there were just some tomatoes. An elderly African woman walked past and went off with the majority of the veggies. The garden help got a hold of her as he knew her and told her off good and solid. There was a period when people planted easy veggies, i.e. green beans, tomatoes, lettuce and so on for the pavement and the needy could come and pick for their own use, there is a limit naturally, but some think they need more than others!! At certain Country Hotels they have a honest bar, and the fellows write in the book what they consumed and paid when they left with the accommodation account. Apparently it worked well. Honesty is always the best policy I believe. Thank you it was lovely and most enjoyable to listen and watch. Take care, kind regards, Elize.

Honestly system is very practical but obviously, with the actual society here in France, it's a no-way being used. Instead another equivalent 24h open system is very popular and growing mainly in rural France. It's basically the same concept with a night and day opening self shop but fresh food is keep into several cooling automat fridges (like sweets and sodas automats you find in public transportation stations) and you pay with CB mainly.

@@thierrymilan2039 Hi Thierry! Yes I was wondering if the honesty system would work in France. Sometimes it does it the UK, for fresh eggs in small villages for example, but I’ve also seen the automatic 24 hr dispensing machines you mention working well in Sweden, for fresh milk and cheese, for example.
@thierrymilan2039

@@jennyschateaufarm Hi Jenny. As I said, the honestly system can't work here in France, except maybe in an isolated place, like an island, a specific isolated communauty or a mountain rural village. Automats are the solution if you can't provide enough staff in the shop and you can sell most of the food excepting fresh fish maybe or very large vegetables and fruits.

Hi, Jenny! Such a wonderful video! Your Chateau is beautiful! Looking forward to seeing more of it. The caves underneath are fascinating. People knew how to do things right in the past. The trip to your husband's home was interesting and beautiful! The neighborhood grocery was amazing and nice to know people can still be honorable and honest. That's how it was as I was growing up and I still live on part of our family farm where I was actually born at home seventy-five years ago. Our community was close knit and everyone helped out, watched out for each other. It is still fairly nice but not like it used to be. I've lived other places but always drawn back to my childhood home, nowhere else really felt like home. Looking forward to updates from you! Janice from Arkansas USA

@@jennyschateaufarm You are doing great! BTW, in the kitchen, what color is the most popular? Because the shutters are kept closed to keep heat out, the color I favor may be too dark. I favor the teal. Which do you favor? Your vlog is interesting because you included interesting background on your property search! While you are not doing hands on restoration, introducing your contractors and incorporating them into your story keeps viewers watching AS WELL as including local festivities...I found the "festival" fun to watch cause you introduced us to interesting people. And it is exciting to watch how the attic is converted into the music studio as well as your yoga studio. Hope you choose to allow some exposed beams to remain and stucco walls. Love views from all windows. What direction does the Chateau face?
@jennyschateaufarm
@jennyschateaufarm Жыл бұрын
Thanks Alicia! My favourite colour for the kitchen is the paler one called Windmill Lane by Little Greene, because I'd like that room to be light and bright in contrast to our dining room that is going to be a dramatic dark red. Glad to hear you are enjoying meeting our friends, neighbours and contractors. Yes we're defiantly keeping the beams exposed as much as possible, although we've had to cover the stone walls in the attic sadly due to sound insulation needed for the music studio. The main entrance faces east, and the back garden is in the west, so we get lovely sunsets and sunrises, and in the hallways the sun shines all the way through!
