Joe, because of your videos, I built a wood roof for my Kawasaki Mule and put fiberglass on it to make it last. Thank you for all the information on how to fiberglass over plywood. It has been very helpful

This is great Capt. Joe! It was so kind of you to show my family the boat a few weeks ago after our wonderful time with you on the water. I have told many people up here about you and the outstanding guide that you are for your clients as well as the true craftsman you demonstrate while you are building this boat. These videos are so interesting to watch. We already look forward seeing you again next year..... we might just have to come down early?? !!

Keep them coming. Doing a great job and loving the boat. Also for us that are wanting to take on a boat rebuild, is there anyway that we can get a cost of what your boat materials are running?
@FishBumpTV

Thanks! glad you are enjoying the boat vids. Our charter season is slowing down, so we will be working on the boat a lot more over the next few months. I will try to include more price info in future videos. I can tell you that everything has gotten a lot more expensive lately! I bought a 50 gallon drum of resin about a month ago, and it was around 1800 dollars. The coosa panels in 3/4 inch thick is between 300 and 400 dollars. This build has NOT been a cheap build. We Really appreciate the views and comments. Hope to post again soon!

Hi Joe! I've enjoyed your videos immensely. I know some boat builders will fill some of those hull/stringer voids/boxes with foam for additional bouncy. Any thoughts on that? Doesn't look like you went that route.
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate you watching! Using foam flotation under the floor is a more common practice on smaller boats, usually 21 feet and under. Part of the reason for this is that it is a coast guard requirement on small boats. It can also be used to add strength and stiffness to the boat in certain applications. Strength and reserve buoyancy can also be achieved with a robust stringer system and water-tight chambers or bulkheads. Most larger boats go with the latter route. Foam flotation has a few drawbacks. It can absorb water over time if not properly installed, it limits the use of space under the deck that might be used for storage, and it can be labor intensive and expensive to install. There can certainly be pros and cons both ways. Hope this answers your question, and thanks for the comment!

Great Video! You may consider really "beefing up" the Anchor Locker/Stem with 6 - 10 layers of glass...??
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, the bow stem is one of those areas that needs to be extra tough for sure. When we laminated the hull we used 2 layers of 11/2 oz mat and 4 layers of 1708 biaxial on the sides 6 layers on the bottom. All of the layers overlap by 4 to 8 inches on the keel and bow stem. Then we came back after full cure and added another 4 layers of 1708 for stringer tabbing, and down the middle of the bow stem for extra reinforcement. That would be 16 layers thick in the bow stem, anchor locker area. That should result in close to 1 inch thick in those high load areas. I think that some of that is in other videos, sometimes it is difficult to document everything. Hope that answers Your question, appreciate You watching!

Thanks Fish Bump TV! I am glad to hear you build high quality boats!!! On another side note, I feel strongly about a super stout Bow - Eye, that is thru Bolted with massive Backing Plates through a Stout Stem and a matching Internal Eye that you can S.S. Shackle the Bitter End of your Anchor Rode to for the "Emergence Dump" situation when you are getting blown onto a rocky Lee shore with no power... and you need Max Rode in the water. Whether a Skiff or a Sportfish, in my mind, a good, Seamanlike idea. Capt. Thank you for sharing. First time seeing epoxy being sprayed. Beautiful and efficient work. Does spraying require mixing thinner into the epoxy mix?
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV Жыл бұрын
Your are very welcome, glad you enjoyed the video! We do not usually thin resins whether they are epoxy, polyester, or vinyl ester. The only time we might thin the resins would be if we are using the resin to penetrate deeper into the material we are fiberglassing . For example the first coat of resin on a plywood or coosa panel. Thanks for watching, and welcome to the channel!

I am having my 22 ft bay boat redone and was wondering what thickness coosa for the floor you recommend and would you use them for the stringers? Thx
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 10 ай бұрын
I would recommend 3/4 inch thick, in the 26-pound density. They call it blue water 26. That is what we used on our boat. Yes, it makes for very good stringer material. Thanks for watching, and good luck with your project!

What kind of resin did you use for your layup? I see now that the MEKP is red so you know its getting catalyzed whilst you spray.

We used Polynt Composites 6631-00 0211mdlt. We add a red dye to the MEKP, you have to buy the dye, and add as needed. Thanks for watching.

Been wondering why your not using the chopping gun instead of hand laying?
@nafod32
@nafod32 Жыл бұрын
Or is that a resin sprayer only?
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, that's a good question. Chopper guns can be great for some applications. But a boat built with hand-laid biaxial fiberglass is usually going to be stronger, and lighter than one built with large amounts of chopper gun glass. The downside is that it takes more time to hand-lay a hull.
