Oh I won’t disagree there brother. My 3500 3.73 blew my mind when I put 16k on my 22GN and hauled that SOB thru the mountains. My MPG on that specific load was 7.3... Which in my opinion isn’t bad for a 3500. A 4500 4.10 could have handled it much better of course, but no arguments here, these small rigs can do some extraordinary things! 👍🏻👍🏻

They gear them differently with the allison transmission.

If you can buy 1 already made, you’ll probably save a few grand rather than having it built. Especially if you can find something used with low miles. Brand new, plus the build, you’re paying top dollar... Mine is for sale at 31Dodge.com with 11k miles on it. All I’m saying here is that I paid a little more than they are asking. The ability to transport high end auto in a safe and secure environment will always pay far more than hauling a few pallets out in the elements on a hotshot rig.

In most cases, you probably won’t need something as big as a 5500... But if you’re like me and you have your mind set on something, the 5500 was great. I’d recommend the 4.44 rear tho 👍🏻👍🏻

@@DreamInspired our camper weighs 6500 lbs and we want to carry motercycles and tools on the truck also. Thanks for the tip on the 444 . With that setup on the 3500 dually we got about 10 to 11 mpg with 410 gears . Too much weight though. But I do love our artic fox 990 camper.,without the camper we are getting 16 mpg, 2014 Ram mega cab limited. Looking forward to seeing you in the Volvo

About a month after I got her back from Road Master. And from the way things went with the 2nd owner, it’s a dam good thing because the CP4 pump went out on him shortly after he bought it.

4:89 was a bad idea for hotshot. I’d suggest that only if you’re running the truck stand alone in maybe a dump truck scenario. The beefed up suspension and 4:89 will move that single vehicle no problem, but in a combination setting… 4:44 all day. My buddy has the 4:44 on his 5500 pulling a Diamond C with total GCWR of 50,000. He loads 30-35k on his trailer and pulls all over the country doing just fine with the 4:44. Mileage loading that much can’t be too good, but only using him as an example that the 4:89 isn’t needed for hotshot. I’ve never driven the 4:44 so I can’t judge that part, but the average driver isn’t going to load more than 15-20k on the trailer so regardless, the lower ratio can do the job fine and will definitely have better mileage when loaded light.

@@DreamInspired the problem with 4:44 on a 5500 is your GVWR Drops to 32k. After truck, gear, and trailer weight that only allows for 13,900lbs of cargo on the trailer.

Unloaded with no trailer, just the truck with gear and full fuel tanks... Yep. Got the videos and fuel receipts to back it up. 👍🏻👍🏻

If you don’t drive your crap hard the mpg is actually that high. Fun fact
