I've run hopper bottoms on and off for the last 5 years. Timpte trailers. Love running hopper bottoms maining because of dealing with the agricultural industry. Hauled a lot of chicken meal mainly for petfood industry. Last truck I ran was a 2019 Volvo midroof with the I-shift 12-speed. Missed some of your videos. Curious how you ended up from hot shot to running the big rigs. I'm about 65 miles northeast of Indy. Be safe out there.

I was heading east on I 80 in Wyoming and the wind was about 50mph and I did not have the tarp clamp do good enough and the wind caught it and ripped the tarp and broke the arm on the rear of the trailer and bent the rod that goes front to back. I had to get all of it replaced.

Do you have to clean out the hoppers between loads and how much freight uses hoppers ? And lastly first it make the $ per mile 2.50 +
@DreamInspired
@DreamInspired 5 жыл бұрын
Yes you have to clean them. Most of the time just a sweep out but depending what you had and what you’re going to get, you might need a wash out. And I don’t run for less than $2.50 a mile. It’s not worth it.
@steveriley1600
@steveriley1600 5 жыл бұрын
Dream Inspired I figured you had to clean them wasn’t sure how much it runs you if your power washing them ! Nice move up btw
@anthonytaylor4348
@anthonytaylor4348 5 жыл бұрын
Steve Riley The amount of Commodities in the Mid west is crazy busy. You do have to sweep out between loads if required most do. Some have you get a wash out which I prefer so no mishaps occur. The money in this industry is very good. Some loads you make bare minimum to get you the next load that’s paying awesome. I myself parked my flatbed trailer because the money is way better in hoppers.
@steveriley1600
@steveriley1600 5 жыл бұрын
Anthony Taylor I was looking to go from dump truck back to semi was thinking flatbed but not 100% sure , but being from Ohio I see a lot of local grain corn haulers but not sure where the loads are posted to see rates and lanes for this kind of freight

I assume you're delivery in Meadville is at Ainsworth my guess is you're still there waiting to unload that place really sucks I spent 27 hours there with a reefer load last year thank God for detention pay. There was a hopper guy there then that was waiting 3 days past his appointment time
@DreamInspired
@DreamInspired 5 жыл бұрын
Wow. That’s insane. No I unloaded at my scheduled time on Tuesday. I got there Monday afternoon and was told by my broker that they would unload me and move me fast... Had to wait til my appointment at 11am the next day tho. I’m in Sioux Falls SD now. Been here since Friday afternoon.

I just seen this old video is there a trick to loading up these hoppers ?? I am very nervous about hauling these first time I ever did it dude asked me how do you want It I said idk load up it up !!! 🤣🤣😅long story short I was fired after that lmao 120,000 lbs Ina hoper trailer first load by myself is there a trick or something to loading these I noticed you said in the beginning of the video 23 in the front 27 in the back is this usalu how they do it at places ,??? I'm up for learning new trafe I'm going back to it this summer kinda nervous 😓
@DreamInspired
@DreamInspired 2 жыл бұрын
Hey man. So I got out of grain hauling a while back. I’ve done a few loads over the years but the goal is to always be searching 80k lbs. The biggest tip I got was to always either fill the tanks before loading to make sure You’re never over 80k or fill after getting loaded and avoid weigh stations so you can get paid more since the pay by the ton. 23k lbs in the front and 27k in the rear puts 50k lbs into the bins. You’ll want the less in the front since your drive axles already have weight on them from the truck. I didn’t have much as far as advice going into either. Hope that helps man
