In this episode I manually clean the intake valves by removing the inlet manifold and cleaning them with tools and a wire brush. The inlet manifold gasket injector seals are replaced as well.
Throughout this series I will carry out a variety of common mechanical repairs on this vehicle before a host of performance upgrades in preparation for some serious boost. As always my series will have no tragic humour, no fancy editing, and no advertising, just a strong focus on DIY work and building things on a strict budget in your own shed.

I did this myself. Thanks for the helpful vid. Its a def a diy, as long as you have the correct tools. Def get the injector replacement kit, because the original plastic things will brake. I changed the injectors too. A bit expensive, but worth it. I found the throttle body screws the hardest. The so called demon bolt is actually easy of you remove the dipstick and have a thin triple square 10 mm. Other than that, is not even that hard. Edit: what helps is first scraping it off while still dry, vacuüm out, and then use the chemicals for the last bits.

A few more tips with refitting the injectors: 1. The little white seal at 12:29 is impossible to get on with your fingers. The only way I could get it on was to soften it with a heat gun (or warm/hot water), lay it flat on the table, then push the injector down on to it. Even then it took a couple of attempts, the first attempt stretched it out a little, then managed to get it on on the second or third attempt. 2. The injectors are really snug and I couldn't push them in with my bare hands. So I pressed each of them in using a small flat metal plate resting against them so I could get more weight behind them. 3. The retainer at 13:28 was also tricky to push on. Once you've got it under the clips, you can use a 16mm deep socket on an extension to push it on evenly and around the injector. Thanks again for all the help. Just finished the job today, and couldn't have done it without this video.

You can remove the dipstick tube for more clearance by going under the car and hitting the lip of the dipstick tube up towards the sky. Make sure you have something flat when hitting it so that you don’t chip the plastic off and make sure you’re lightly tapping it until you hear it come loose. Hope this helps!

Thanks, was having trouble getting it off. I suspected that was the case but was afraid to break it. Thanks for the tip.

So glad I got rid of mine! Between the 30 tubes and hoses and 5 different kinds of bolt heads.... could they have made this any more complicated?!

For the Satan bolt you can get it off by jamming in a long 8mm round-head allen key. The dipstick was the way for me and I wasn't sure how to remove it without breaking it, and it got in the the way off the triple square socket. The allen key was thin enough to get between all the pipes, and the bolt isn't on terribly tight so if you jam it in hard enough it shouldn't round out the bolt (too much). Add a box spanner to the other end of the allen key to give you some extra leverage when cracking it off. Thanks for the great tutorial.

@cheapthrillsgarage
@cheapthrillsgarage Жыл бұрын
Not really, so I went back to the factory PCV. It used a lot more oil as well because it’s not returned to the sump. The valve cover actually has a pretty good built in catchcan that returns the oil to the sump.

I have just acquired a Mk5 GTI, 08 plate, 120,000 miles, love the car so far 😎 Top things to do.... or check. 1. Cam follower for High pressure fuel pump - easy replacement. 2. Oil leaking from valve cover/ vacuum pump - another easy and cheap fix. 3. Thermostat temp check - common failure point. I'm looking to do an intake clean myself as I dont want to afford the price a garage will charge.

good work /and not so easy/ , the reason for carb is overused pcv -oil separator - you should replace it asap otherwise carb will appear on the intake, valves quickly

Valves are not closed at 17.16 when the engine is running. This does nothing for these engines. It's better to throw that shit in the bin than spray it into the intake manifold when the engine is running
@cheapthrillsgarage
@cheapthrillsgarage Жыл бұрын
@@bigeater1310 Spraying it in when the engine is running is just fine, the same as fuel being injected. It will assist cleaning out light oiling before it turns to carbon and sludge overtime. As I mentioned, you need to clean it properly like I did here to remove hard carbon.
