The Biden administration in 2021 set aside $50 billion for improvements to water and wastewater infrastructure. EPA Administrator Michael Regan tells CBS News' Tom Hanson that "We have to be better positioned to deal with our obligation to provide quality, affordable drinking water to everyone in this country."

Our government will do countless news rounds but won’t actually pass legislation to help unless it gives them a pay raise along with it.

It has been abundantly clear for many decades that the financialized nature of our economy has no interest in public infrastructure. Maintaining or improving public infrastructure is completely out of the question because it is not profitable. And in cases where improving public infrastructure can be beneficial for local economies, we have a main stream media and a centralized banking system, which advises against creating more jobs in an already so-called hot economy. The question remains, What motivation does financial capital have to improve public infrastructure when it is deincentivized at every turn.

EPA can only set up the programs to make the money avaliable to the communities that need them. Environmental issues are intense because they are global yet locally they need to be addressed differently. It sucks because they have a deadline, but it's not getting the publicity it deserves. Perhaps this was their attempts..?

Partnering with financial capital to improve infrastructure is guaranteed to maintain the status quo and this official is very well aware of it. His speeches are full of empty promises and rainbows and unicorns but we all know that none of this will actually come to pass.

As a civil engineer who has worked for both private and public. The private sector cannot pay for major infrastructure projects, government is a better route for large projects. And private is driven by profit, it takes a lot of money to clean water. Most (I say most) do a good job in cleaning water, however, again some water is difficult and expensive to clean . Privatization is not always a solution.
