EPIC 4K ISLAND HOPPING Adventure - Flying Around the Azores - SATA DHC-8-200Q

This was an insane, epic, awesome day full of adventure with SATA Air Açores. I got to spend a day flying around the Azorean archipelago on SATA's Bombardier DHC-2s and -4s. I started in Ponta Delgada (PDL) then flew to Horta (HOR), on to Corvo (CVU), and then back to Ponta Delgada via Horta. From short field landings and takeoffs to seeing a rainbow and flying by Mt. Pico, one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal, this was by far and away the most exciting day of flying I've ever had.
Flying to Corvo was insane, so stay tuned for a separate video on that flight!

Awesome video. I flew on the SATA Dash 8 Q400 from LPLA to LPPD in 2016 and was lucky enough to fly on the SATA A310 prior to its retirement. Keep up the great footage!

Nice trip. But you can make it even more longer. I did in 2020 with the CS-TRC PIX-PDL-HOR-CVU-FLW-CVU_HOR-PDL. I was from PDL until back to PDL with the same Crew. It was a great flying day. I love the short field performance of the Q200 and the awsome sound during cruise. It sounds like you are in an old propliner. Will be sad, when the small birds will be replaced in some time. I did a lot flights with SATA, but never was so close to Pico. This was really cool. You can find all flights on my channel.

As a resident in Azores i've experienced that multiple times. Pico Island is the tallest mountain in Portugal. The pilots from Azores Airlines will sometimes do a close flyby the mountain top when the flying conditions are extremely good.... Happens mostly when you flying into or outoff Faial Island. As the reason why they do it? because its an amazing view for the passengers and not a detour from the direct route to Sao Miguel Island.

@SephAZ how is it living on the islands? Would be curious to hear your perspective. As for the Mt. Pico flyby, that was one of the coolest things I have seen done in commercial aviation.

@@flapsnslats I Can only speak for Sao Miguel island ( the biggest one) as it is the one i live in. Living in Azores is trully amazing... Unless you are a big city enjoyer, living in Sao Miguel is like being on Paradise on earth! : -Work? 5 -15 min commute and you are at work... I saves you tremendous ammount of time during the day for other activities. -Living here allows you to have extremely close relation to family and friends.. Living so close to one another allows you to easily arrange a gathering with friends for a beer or a dinner even during weekdays... For example I go to the gym with my best friend, and can easily spend 30-45 min after the workout with his Kid (my godson) 3 days a week. -Beaches all over the island, no matter where you live you are always close to a place go take a bath and relax. - You are only 2H away (by plane) from a major European Capital ( Lisbon) if there is anything the Island doesnt provide. (usually very specific and tecnical medical procedures) In my opinion is Perfection. The Bad part of living in Azores atm is the Inflation due to the extreme increase in Tourism. House/rent prices have doubled in the recent years and people are struggling to afford a home with our 800-1200E /month average incomes. You have amazing videos and I wish you truly the best !
