I love visiting this location due to its oustanding scenery, views and wildly differing climate conditions. I would find the usual bits and pieces, but ended up finding a relic lost 500 years ago.

Beeing out on the field is the only place I feel I can turn off the noise from the world and from my own thoughts. Each find is a bonus and some days are pure magic.

Not too shabby Gareth. The buckle alone is a decent day. Does look quiet but maybe deserves another visit. I'm going up to a pay-per-day farm in a mo which I've been on a few times. Very hard graft for usually not much at all. 450 acres so never done but not ploughed either. Had an awesome day up there last year when I got a Fob seal, armour plated buckle, barrel tap and musket balls. Roman activity and church nearby but it's a case of finding a hot spot. Last visit was an Eddie penny but that was it after 6 hours. No buttons or anything else but junk. Still, I'd probably take that any day. Don't expect to get one today mind. Many have detected this place. Nice to see you 🫡

I hope that trend doesn't spread to Derbyshire. Paying to metal detect is not heard of for me, other than the odd crate of beer or bottle of whiskey here and there. Good to see you back Gareth. The button was nice & that buckle definitely has some history. Just the crude manufacturing of it shows there was no machinery to form it.At the depth it was found was probably 500 years old, in my opinion.

Hi Mark, as always thanks for tuning in and thanks for your kind words. This time last year I had bagged 3 gold coins already, 3 hammered silver and a host of silver milled. This year I have only managed 3 bits of silver, zero gold, zero hammered. Hopefully my luck will change next weekend :)

Hi Dave, yes very much a normal days detecting, most of my sessions in 2024 have been like this. We are already in April and I've only found 3 bits of silver, my worst start to a year on record. But I'm enjoying my detecting and that's all that matters to me

That wasn’t a bad day out Gareth. That buckle that you said was unusual and you didn’t know what it was us a loop for the belt to go through after it went through the buckle. The flat are at the base is so it can be captured between two bits of leather and stand upright. That 1400s buckle is a ripper of a find. Well done on it all. Take care mate 🦘🦘😁👍

My fortunes have finally changed, got a tiny little permission, pasture field in front of a pub. 2 visits and I've bagged 4 silver coins, all different Georges aswel. But the field is so small, I think I have pretty much done it in 2 visits. Working on finding landowners to neighbouring fields. Its right in front of a pub too which does amazing chicken burgers haha

The shoulder is pretty sore especially where they removed and reattached my bicep during the operation. Didn’t,have that done on the other shoulder so this is new. The buckle is awesome, what a find! Nice button at the end there too - can never have too many buttons. Can see why you keep going back even if the finds are few and far between, so worth it for the views and to get away from the world for a bit. Hope you and family had a great Easter.

Ayup Shawn, ye mate been pretty rubbish this year so far. Having said that last week I bagged a new permission and found 2 silver coins on my first visit - including a George 4th sixpence. Also, last night I recovered a gold ring for someone who lost it in a field while training his dog. So things are pickin up :)

Hi there, sorry to hear that you broke your metal detector and your spade. This is why I would always advise having a backup metal detector and spade in your car boot. I learnt this lesson myself some years ago. My most expensive coin find is my gold Henry VII Angel, which is a medieval gold hammered coin valued at around £2,000 - £4,000.
