No, what he did was first to set a few respectable laptimes, with consistent driving, so the officials knew 1) His car was built for more than grocery getting and 2) The driver wasn't just anyone. After that he went a little sideways here and there over the course of 3-4 laps I think (not entire laps, just 1/4 of the course in every lap), it being obvious to anyone with eyes (as well as experienced officials of "Green Hell") that he was no amateur they just never ended up kicking him off the track.
