In 2007 Jason Bonham did the impossible. He played a full set onstage with Led Zeppelin and not only pulled it off but he got great reviews for his performance. Nobody sounds like John Bonham. But nobody knows John Bonham's playing on Led Zeppelin concerts and recordings like Jason. And you don't get gigs with bands like UFO Foreigner Black Country Communion Paul Rodgers Sammy Hagar etc because people like your name. He is a great rock and roll drummer in his own right.

Me 3 ! Have you seen “Hired Gun “ Documentary about those nameless but faces we know! And make the greats greatest! And all the other drummers from the heaviest rock bands all said “ Kenny is fuckin crazy A machine! And the loudest that they have ever heard! Nobody Hits Them Harder Than Kenny ❤ And what’s amazing is go look at Mellencamps videos the real early ones And Kenny looks like a puny waiter ! He’s going backwards and looking younger and extremely fit Seen him with JM several times and with John Fogarty and he stands out And correct me if I’m wrong but he’s the drummer who played on the most successful songs With the highest sales And won the most Grammys ! Back when you had original music and not other peoples songs mixed in with them Sorry but with the rare exemptions There’s so many forgetful hit songs

Anyway after i realized who he was i tried to but him a beer - he was like no way - he didn't have to pay of course . . . he was the nicest guy - he introduced me to the drummer from cheap trick. And i'm a nobody . . . but yeah great guy and he killed it that night. I remember richard Thompson kept breaking strings at one point and the band went into an Irish dirge tune and kenny didn't miss a beat . . . literally lol

Yes, Michael is definitely one of the best bassist of all time. To me, as an original Van Halen fan, (in junior highschool when their first album came out), those high pitched background vocals is what made the band what it was, I mean, that signature Van Halen sound. We were listening to SONGS and their SONGS were what changed our lives forever. Even as a guitar player back then, it wasn't only about Eddie's talent, it was how we were listening to the SONGS on the albums that got and kept our complete attention. The songs were the hooks, the choruses of those songs, "runnin with the devil" and that doesn't take anything away from anyone else in the band. We rocked to those songs as a whole song. It's about the songs, those high pitched backing vocals are very the thing that made it a VH song. Their mega hit, Jump, was a hIt because they all worked together as Van Halen and they were a rock n roll BAND. When it comes down to it, the experience of being abandoned by your closet friends must have been extremely painful and shocking for Michael. Think about it, to get axed one day without even being told you were being kicked out of the band by your band mates. My belief is that nobody is perfect, not even the Van Halen brothers, but I also believe that the brothers cleary KNEW it was a treacherous thing to do. It's sad that they didn't have the courage to tell Mikey face to face. The press did it for them. It's also easy to get overlooked because it's the vocals, the lyrics, the message of the song that stands out more than anything. There's also the fact that the guitarist is one of a very few people to ever be elected as the very best guitar player of all time. The phenomenal lead guitar solos also got the attention of an generation. Like David Lee Roth said years ago, "here today, gone later today." I was very fortunate to have been at the age I was when the best music was being birthed into existence. 1970 to 1980, in my opinion. Van Halen was rocket fuel for our many of our lives. Just saying.

Great post. Michael #1 dude never bashed Eddie or Alex in then press after they 1st took away his band ownership, then claimed he didn't even play on the records, then replaced him. What a saint he is! He was a huge part of the VH sound, no one can argue that. If anything didn't go in the spot light and held down the bottom with basic notes so Ed could do his playing. Without it wouldn't have sounded as good imo.
