Ever since github encouraged changing "master" branches to "main", I make sure the main branch of all my repos is called "master". In a normal situation I wouldn't care at all, but since their reasons were woke looney-bin paranoia, I do. If I used UE I'd do the same.

The funny part is how they handle all complaints. "If you don't like what you read, then deal with it" is how they handle people who disagree with their take on "How to avoid upsetting people, and how to ensure everyone is polite". @@chilomine839 A few years back, as coal miners were dealing with mass layoffs (maybe from the industry shrinking?), a lot of journalist outlets were offering their "sage" advice, telling them to learn to code, from a pretty condescending position in their ivory towers. Fast forward to more recent months where journalists are facing mass layoffs, the chief editors realizing their ideologue lecturing has been jeopardizing the publications credibility and solvency.... lots of people were quick to throw their own advice back at them, "Hey since your occupation isn't viable anymore, learn to code." Basically "learn to code" became a meme. Only this Unreal development is showing they **shouldn't** go anywhere near programming language.

Afaik that's just their made-up guidelines, I gotta look into the licensing but I don't think it's a "requirement" that is going to carry any consequences for a studio. Also plenty of good games on unreal engine as it's one of the best engines on the market currently. Look at Ready or Not as an example.

It's all they know how to do. I honestly can't even begin to get into the headspace of these people. Differences of opinions aside, I would be downright beyond embarrassed to act the way that they do. I've never seen this kind of narcissism, like to the point where I don't think it even applies. Narcissism is typically more subtle and focused inward on the individual but this, this is a collective hivemind of totalitarian sociopaths. The more they put their own petty grievances above other peoples' livelihoods, above the success of iconic properties and industries that they did not have a hand in creating, above forcing restrictions onto art/creativity and free speech, the less I give a s**t about anything they have to say. It's the people who scream and virtue signal about the evils of colonization and cultural appropriation that are legitimately colonizing these industries and spaces while they appropriate nerd culture for their twisted agendas.

at first I thought it is stupid they change whitelist and blacklist to allowlist and blocklist. But after thinking it on user perspective especially, it is in fact better to change it to allow and block list as it is actually reduce confusion and make it easier to understand. (In addition, if you are writing documentation, it will be so much consistent too. Example: if you want to allow this IP to connect to network, put in whitelist vs if you want to allow this IP to connect to network, put in to allow list.) Now if they changing female connector and male connector, now that is freaking bad. Same as master and slave in storage, change that = bad (which the funny thing in computer term master basically do much more job than slave lol).

I can tell you exactly what this is. I work for a large tech company that has internal naming standards that are updated yearly. We are told what words, like "blackball", "blacklist", "stakeholder", "slave", "orphan", and many others that we are encouraged to change to a more "compassionate" phrase. As a lifelong delivery and people manager, I've used stakeholder a lot. And have never offended anyone.
