Yep, we moved to the country when I was 6 (1971) thought it was the end of the world at the time. The best thing that ever happened to me, going barefoot, swimming in the creek and most of all... growing a big ole garden full of everything. Good times, simple life, wouldn't change a thing.

Hank Williams wasn't just a country singer, he is THE country music legend. Hank Jr (aka Bocephus) was expected to be just like his dad musically, but he was just too different. So he went his own way and became a legend himself. His biography is really interesting, you guys should look it up.

Once you live in the country, you're not worried about surviving. Hank is right. We hunted, fished, grew our food, raised hogs, chickens, rabbits. There was an old man down the road who had a couple of Jersey cows too. Everybody knew everybody and we watched out for each other. It wasn't survival skills to us. It was just life. Never count out country folk. If the world fell tomorrow, we'd be fine.

A trotline is a heavy fishing line with a bunch of short lighter lines spaced apart (snoods). A snood is a short length of line which is attached to the main line. You end up with a bunch of baited fishing hooks covering a big area. The trotline can be ran so it covers the whole width of a river or stream.

A Trot Line is a horizontal fishing line suspended by floating jugs with many vertical fishing lines hanging from it. You bait the hooks, string it out and let it sit, when you come back, hopefully you have many fish on the lines.
@evilfantasy69
@evilfantasy69 2 жыл бұрын
That's jugging or noodling and you need to also use weights that set on the bottom of the lake to keep the from getting lost with the tide or tangled up. A trot line is when you tie a line between 2 trees (or whatever anchor points) with hooks on the line. You can stretch them anywhere on a lake or even across the channel of a river or stream.

Trotline fishing is fun, we do it. Just like a line of treble hooks , maybe 10 hooks, with bait like chicken, stays on hooks really well. Then put in rivers around the evening. Leave overnight then check the next day. We normally catch catfish and gars. Also, that's steel guitar yall hear, blooming flowers, typical of blues , country music, bluegrass. Hank is part of the outlaw country genre. The playing style and twang makes it country sounding. Yall will be good out in the country. Yall are down to earth, funny, and cool, like most folks that live in rural areas. They are like yall. Plus, Brad has a pickup truck he'd get tons of friends out in the country 😆 🤠 they,d take you off-roading and muddin. Hunting and fishing. The ladies will bake, cook and gardening with Lex. I have lots of friends, coworkers that live outside the city. Just don't fall for their pranks, they like playing pranks on gullible city slickers lol.

lmfao Just heard that last statement Brad. You would love living in the rural area. And a trot line is a line you put out in the river with treble hooks on it that you bait and leave in the water. You go home or to your tent and then return later to find fish hooked on your iine in the water.

I used to be really into hard rock and heavy metal and went to many concerts... But I also went through a Bocephus (Hank Jr.) stage and went to a show back in the mid/late 80's ('87?) and I'll tell you that was the scariest crowd I ever saw. More fights than all the other concerts I'd been to collectively. Rowdy crowd with a lot of whiskey down their necks. But it was a great show (and this suburban kid did survive). This was my favorite song. "I got a shotgun, a rifle, and a 4-wheel drive, and a country boy can survive."

A trot line is used for a style of fishing that is all about food as opposed to sport. It is comparable to trapping in that you have to check your trot lines just about as often as you'd check your trap line. It can be confusing at first. A trap line is a series of animal traps set in the woods, usually close to, or along a creek, river, or stream. The "line" is the trail or path that goes from the first trap to the last. It can be quite a bit of hiking if you're checking them properly. The word "line" in the term "trot line" is an actual physical line, often made of tarred string that is typically strung across a non-navigable stream or small river that has several "leaders" ( shorter lengths of actual fishing line, hooked and baited on the end ) attached at intervals along the trot line that is strung between the banks. You bait your leaders on the trot line, then walk away. You return to check for fish after about an hour or so, or at even longer time intervals if fishing deep for cats.

Country music is an American musical style that incorporates elements of folk, bluegrass, blues, and rural dance music. Music historians trace its origins to the southern Appalachian Mountains in the late 1920s, particularly in eastern Tennessee and southwest Virginia.

A Trot Line is just a heavier long line with several other lines with hooks. and bait, tethered at each end, so you don't have to wait and fish, just periodically come and check them. I have done everything Bocephus talked about, and more. In Louisiana, we could catch a sack of crawfish in a couple hours. There was always someone going down to the coast to bring back 100's of pounds of fresh shrimp. My Grandpa used to make muskedine wine, and I have make mulberry wine myself. Now I live in Orlando, and I hate it.

Brad, a trotline is a long, heavy line, usually string, that is secured to something above the water on one side, like a limb or pole, then anchored out in the water on the other side. It has several smaller lines, 2 to 3 feet long, that come off the main line, with a single baited hook. They are used mainly in flowing waters like rivers and creeks, to catch catfish. This song is a classic in Country music and is well known by everyone that lives in the country

Country music is a state of mind and a country boy or girl has a lot to do with grassroots family, multiple generations living within Rock chunking distance, and having the skills to feed yourself and family off the land and Waters. Country music is different in that twang from the voice, the story telling of the song, and the steel guitar. It can make harmonica-like sounds and was used alot in bluegrass music. This is a great song by Hank Jr. You can bet true country people can do all he said and more. Being from the country, you learn to live off the land and be very self sufficient. It's a beautiful life but harder in many regards. Alot of manuel labor, stores are not immediately accessible because you may have a bit of a drive to get to one, and depending on how far out you are, you may or may not have access to cable or internet. Country folks tend to focus more on their families, friends, and God than people in cities do. I think it comes from everyone having to rely on and support one another every day in the country to make it. You should go explore the countryside in little towns. I'm sure you'd enjoy it!

A trout line is a row of fishing hooks you attached to short fishing lines. They are then attached to a long chord, chain, or rope every 10' or so. The idea is to try to catch any fish that swim near the trout line. Sometimes you can string it across a river, sometimes you string it up and down one side of a river close to the bank. Another form of "trout lines"... sometimes called drop lines, is where individual lines and fishing hooks are attached to roots protruding out of the river bank, tree limbs hanging low over the water, stumps, anything really along the edge of a river. The lines might be 100' apart or so, sometimes closer depending on the stretch of water. You drop the line so that the hook is a few feet under the water. Many times, you can tie a plastic bottle like an empty 2 litter bottle, or even empty milk jug, so that the fishing hook is dangling below the bottle 3-4 feet. When a fish is on the line, you'll see the limb bend and shake... if you're using an empty jug, you see the jug bob up and down in water. For bait it's common to use chicken liver, live minnows, crawfish, or even store-bought bait. Usually you "Line it" at or near dusk in a boat... (mostly flat bottom metal river boats) with a small battery operated motor or simply wooded paddles. The river (or sometimes lake) has to be large, deep, and slow enough to patrol with a boat. A trout line can be up to a mile long, but most of the time no more than a 1/4 of a mile. You start at a fishing camp, go up the river on one side of the bank, then come back down on the other side of the bank. Then you wait. Sometimes my dad and uncle would get up in the middle of the night, sometimes they would simply wait til about an hour before dawn. Then you check the lines. Most of the time trout are not caught, although you call it a trout line no matter where you're fishing. At night it's very common to catch Catfish. Some of the largest flathead river cat's are caught in the dead of night on lines like this. In the day you'll catch anything from Bass, catfish, large perch, crappy... just about anything. And no matter if you're using a "true" trout line, or a more common series of drop lines, this is the type of fishing I grew up with in the South and in "the country".

Hi guys. I can't remember if I left this quote in a comment on any of your vids before. It was once said that Country music is a few chords and the truth. Real country (R.I.P) was always about story telling and much of it came from the life experiences of the writers. Hank Jr. has had some of the same habits (both good and bad ones) as his dad did. Both loved the blues and would often go to little juke joints and blues bars and just sit and listen and sometimes sit in. Jr. has been selling out concerts and making big bank since he was a kid. He learned to do all those survival skills because he loves it and his grandfather thought everyone should know some of how to care for themselves if needed. Lots of great music in Jrs. book. next time you feel like a country song give this one a try. It's called Red Neck Woman by Gretchen Wilson. Enjoy! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bpiUd9GnnuDJfKc.html Oh Brad. A Trot line has hooks attached every couple of feet. You run it across whatever water you are fishing and leave it be for several hours. Go back and pull that line in and you might just have a big bunch of fish. That's a bit simplified, but that's what it is. They use that method to catch crabs too.

Country music tell stories of real life happenings . Just a few decades ago , I was helping my Mom draw water from a cistern , to wash our clothes with an old speed queen wringer washer , and a rinse tub on a home made stool . Cooking supper on top of an old wood stove . The bathroom was over the hill next to the corn crib , with the sears and roebuck toilet paper ! Cutting and stacking wood all summer to have enough for winter . Wearing blue jeans with knee patches , and even worse was in the winter when those jeans came in off the back porch frozen stiff! LOL I tell you what , I thought I was living large , and was as happy as I had ever been . Hard times make you tough , and helps you through stupid time like today !

Hank Williams Sr learned to play the guitar from a Black Man named Rufus Payne (Tee-Tot). It was a special blues cord known in that area. The powers-to-be wanted Hank Williams Jr to play his dad's song. Once Hank Jr. became older, he started playing his style of music. JR was influenced by the Allman Brothers. Hank Williams Sr is often referred to as the King of Country.
