In ‘Merica you can approach the fuel pumps from either direction. This is a no-no in some places, like the island of Bonaire I was once on. (Got scolded) Looks like this fuel pump is set up so that you can fuel either side of the car depending on where the fuel door is.

I been watching Itchy boots Noraly, riding around Africa and l can't believe how bad the infrastructure is. It could easily be described as a disaster. Then l watch The Flyers tour a much smaller country like Japan and the infrastructure is immaculate. Nigeria has massive oil supplys so you think their infrastructure would be better. Who knows why, but I'm enjoying both channels, itchy boots in Africa and Andy and Carol in Japan. Africa looks like a beautiful country but I'd be slightly concerned about touring it. Japan looks like the most law abiding, clean country ive ever seen. Three cheers for Japan.

Absolutely beautiful! 🤗 Funny travelling in Japan brings so much bridges with it. In a job a few years ago, a colleague I sat in one of those open-plan offices with probably was allergic against the sparrmannia tree there or something, he suffered frequent and enduring hefty sneezing attacks. I eventually started writing down his sneezes into google's translate site. I don't remembe the exact sequence of sneezes he made that day, it was something like "Hashashoo, Hatshoo-Shuyoo!" or so. Anyway, translate.google interpreted that as Japanese and returned the term "Bridge Report". Almost everything in Japan seems to somehow connected with bridges, hm? Who'd have thunk! 🤔 I wonder if that volume control for the toilet at the end is for the water flow or the sound level of the privacy-thingy. I would have expected automatic adaptive volume controls, for this pushbutton-style control may be too slow. I also would have been curious if that would play Richard Wagner there. Not only because Japanese are known for their love of culture, but Wagner also is known for seemingly unmotivated blasts of horns in the music. I am with you in the worry about what the wand cleaner will do, but did you notice the pictograms on the Front and Rear button? Am I the only one to whom they look like there are bits and persons depicted levitating on a jet of water? 🤯😱

Hi Andy, Despite the rain, japan still looks quite beautiful. Too much foam on the beer. It should be two fingers hight.😅. Who cares, you’ve got a nice cold beer. Japan looks very beautiful in the sunshine. I don’t put the camera on and off. I constantly record where I ride. External power pack and a few big cards, that’s all. I’m planning to buy the DJI Osmo Action 4 action cam next year. Nice bridge, reminds me a bit of the very impressive one between Denmark and Sweden. And then we see several more great bridges.

Another great video! I like bridges and interesting architectural engineering too. Waiting on the edge of my seat for the next video. Those toilets, the Japanese are so thoughtful. :-( When I was in Japan in the '80, one didn't sit on a toilet, there is no seat, you squated over it. Difficult to get used to but much cleaner.

Agree. The people who design roads with rain grooves do not consider motorcycle rider safety. However, the softer the tire rubber, the less the tire will follow the groove.

Bridge lovers heaven ! As you'll have no doubt noticed, that superb level of engineering is so ubiquitous in Japan that it barely rates a mention. Keen observations on the road striations and the overhead petrol pumps. I assume you enjoyed the private balcony onsen, TMF. I know it was while ago now, but do you recall how that hotel's nosh was ? I love the way beer glasses are always chilled. It's just not the same if they're not, so I keep a few in the freezer here at home. Very much looking forward to the next episode. Again, many thanks and a very Merry Xmas !

Yes I remember that hotel's nosh well! It was a buffet style with a mix of foods available - quality wise it wasn't as top notch as some of the others we visited but there was Western style food (sort-of) available...sort of.

@@TheMissendenFlyer I'm happy to hear you found something more to your liking, sir. As I think I've mentioned, I'm utterly enamoured of Japanese food, but hey, each to their own. Thanks for your reply. Xmas food in Japan mostly involves KFC, by the way. (It's a long story, but the short version is genius marketing.)

@@TheMissendenFlyer Really. There are many articles online describing this phenomenon. Here's an explanation from a BBC article from 2016. "According to KFC Japan spokeswoman Motoichi Nakatani, it started thanks to Takeshi Okawara, the manager of the first KFC in the country. Shortly after it opened in 1970, Okawara woke up at midnight and jotted down an idea that came to him in a dream: a “party barrel” to be sold on Christmas. Okawara dreamed up the idea after overhearing a couple of foreigners in his store talk about how they missed having turkey for Christmas, according to Nakatani. Okawara hoped a Christmas dinner of fried chicken could be a fine substitute, and so he began marketing his Party Barrel as a way to celebrate the holiday. In 1974, KFC took the marketing plan national, calling it Kurisumasu ni wa Kentakkii, or Kentucky for Christmas. It took off quickly, and so did the Harvard-educated Okawara, who climbed through the company ranks and served as president and CEO of Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan from 1984 to 2002." And the rest, as they say, is history. I think it's also partly because most Japanese kitchens don't have a traditional oven. And also that unlike chicken, turkey has never been popular.

Really enjoying this tour Andy. This must have been a considerable commitment in time and money but it’s really great content to watch. I worked many years ago for a Japanese firm and was sent to Yokohama for a few weeks. To say Japan is different to the west is a vast understatement, it has to be experienced! Pretty much anything it seemed could be purchased from a vending machine in Japan, they were everywhere - all the vending machine salesmen must be rich! Still remember my first formal dinner with my new Japanese colleagues (I don’t usually eat fish😂)
