A lot of people are taking me calling these fish "dumb/stupid" way too seriously... my tone was clearly lighthearted and joking. Disrespecting them would be snagging them in the dorsal like everyone else does on this creek, everyone knows how much love and respect I have for the almighty coho.

They don’t eat. Salmon attack eggs as a way of survival of the fittest. They eat or destroy other eggs so their eggs have a better chance of growing. They also attack anything that gets to close as an aggression response. I’m from the PNW and we catch a lot of coho floating eggs yet every single one has an empty stomach. Steelhead will eat in the river as they necessarily don’t die after spawning like salmon do

I am making a trip up to some lake michigan tributaries this weekend. My buddy just got back from a 3 day trip and caught 14 kings and 9 coho. He was using a spinning rod throwing hair jigs and did really well. I will be using a fly rod for this trip and My question to you is how long of a leader do you use for coho and kings and what poundage is the leader rated for. Is it ok to use a 14.5 lb tapered leader for the fish I mentioned or do I need something a little stronger? I know people make their own but would the leader that I mentioned work ok for these fish?
@FishFray
@FishFray 5 жыл бұрын
14.5 is plenty strong enough for any great lakes salmon especially now that they are spawning and the water is colder. Good luck

Another high quality salmon video by Fray. Awesome stuff my man. Especially the clear shots of the fish in the water, that was very neat. Only criticism, I'm not really a fan of calling fish stupid and what not, because it's their instinct to chase something in the water that looks edible.
