Danny Trejo has such a lovely speaking voice. Its funny in a way, considering he always plays not so smart thug type characters. He is really very intelligent and soft spoken. One of my favorite actors!

Very interesting but the documentary lives here more questions than answers and it's pretty vague the way they tell you that you detectives were called out to a manhunt always the government have a way of avoiding telling the truth if it in fact happened. This escape has always been of interest to me. Personality, I think they did make it with the help of many people, just as this documentary states they made it. Too bad they lost their lives after so much planning for freedom. RIP ALCATRAZ ESCAPEES ❣️

I like to believe that they made it and went on to live out the rest of their lives as law abiding citizens

I would've never known that Danny was the voice of this Doc/movie.

I am an investigator, and there are a few too many loopholes, that make no sense or do not add up to the given facts in this story, especially the note.. or deathbed recount.. I shall explain,,,, First, in the 60's, there was not MARCH nor even astounding battles/ riots till much later on, and therefore there was no anger or fighting in the racial area, ,,, this means, most people were at peace, thought their woes came from Russia, not much was in any battle until the late 60's,, thus this man was CALM,, he was not angry at the three men, though it does seem he is subservient, he is NOT a killer.. By the way he was ""shy"" about accepting the first start, with the ""Nun"", if she was, and by the way he was "led on and through" by his Uncle and "friend",, he was not a killer, ,, so point one, He would NOT have jumped out and started ""blasting away"" with a .38 (wrong weapon for a large kill anyways!!),, Where we come to the second oddity and variable, "shot them multiple times inside the pickup bed",,..... gas tank, bullet holes to explain, windows, and blood everywhere,, come on,,, this is WAY WAY too far fetched for me to even have an agreement on a method to "kill three men",, simple,, one at a time, walk them to the hole, pop in the head, they fall in,, no blood, not mess, no bullet holes... there are a few more, but this one tells the REAL story, of reality versus something not quite real.. His ""best friend"" comes up with a scheme to kill the three of them, because he got greedy,,, Ok, then why a living witness, with $10,000 more? Come on,, If a person, male or female, is going to commit a crime, they will leave NO witnesses,, and thus his friend would have popped him too, took HIS $10,000 along with the $50,000, and skedaddles up to Alaska for a year or two, then been off scott free... no witnesses, no "horseshoes", and why didn't they survey the area point one?? come on, get a frickin metal detector, sweep for the horseshoes, and guns,, not a big deal, eh?? So something got LEFT OUT of this tale, and especially the ""immediate recall"" of the FBI.. In summation, if you're going to tell a "credible documentary",, make some sense through the ENTIRE thing!

Im from Tx but on a work trip we worked in San Francisco & its beautiful the big Golden Gate Bridge & Notorious Alcatraz it looks interesting to look at on clear non cloudy days . Whish I took a tour if possible idk .

But then there is a story the Anglin brothers went to South America. They were supposedly involved in drug smuggling. I guess many people have some hope the prisoners successfully escaped from Alcatraz. This was an interesting story. But do we really want the bad guys to win?

It doesn't seem to me that the Marshalls' Service is too anxious to solve one of the most substantial prison breaks in history. I wonder why???

I rented a boat, picked them up at a predetermined time, and got them plane tickets to Canada. They were supposed to send us $100 each, but never did. We lost money on the deal.

The guards helped them. Period.

Pre-Viewing Note: The title & synopsis has me hooked. Hope it delivers a compelling story. Post-Critique: Slow-moving documentary. Leaves you hanging with no real resolution. Still, it gives me the most likely explanation of their disappearance.

They made it. One was close to genius, the two others were experienced swimmers. No car was reported stolen because they didn't steal one.

So why didn’t they dig up the area?? Surly Today there is technology to see if there had been anything buried there. The ending doesn’t make sense. There are a lot of these documentaries on KZfaq now. They build up fanciful suspense then the ending goes nowhere. Don’t bother watching, waste of time.,

I think they made it. They left pics and few things behind to throw off the investigation and were picked up by a boat. Their plans were more detailed than just the escape itself. I have no doubt about that.

Death bed confessions are highly accurate because there is no reason to lie about the confession... money and fame serve no meaning once you're dead. I believe this documentary, including guards, other prisoners and people on the outside being involved. The shooting of the 3 escapees makes sense, since they never showed up again, anywhere. The supposed grave sight they found was also as described in the documentary and death bed confession. I don't understand, though, why it was never dug up to see if the bodies were, in fact, buried there.

Why didn't they take a metal detector out to the site.. I thought that was so dumb to end like that with a bad call..

Great documentary! I think that given how much meticulous planning and life-threatening risks that were involved, it seems highly unlikely that they'd leap blindly into the Bay and rely on luck from there. They would have definitely arranged a boat to pick them up. Of that I am certain. It's common knowledge that all the prisoners knew about the plan, some guards too, and the religious people admittedly did send messages back and forth. So it's not improbable that a boat could have been arranged quite easily. Those same religious men and guards would also know exactly where to place a boat so as not to be seen. Maybe one of them did it themselves. It's not like religious figures or guards of our past and present haven't been criminals themselves. Whether for money or pity, they could and would have helped plan and execute the escape. What happened from there, who knows. I do find it hard to believe that the guy who gave the confession knew where to go with his boat in order to not be caught. How would he have known where? Or the person he was with. This was a highly guarded piece of water. I wonder how common it was for civilian boats to be that close to the island in the middle of the night? A boat motor would be heard. Paddles are slow. Lights were not an option. So did they get on a boat in plain sight? A patrol boat in on the plan maybe? It's not like they let just anyone be in a boat in that area in the night. Given the poor living conditions of that particular prison, I think the idea of going back there would be reason enough for any of the escapees to return to a life of crime afterwards, as was speculated by law enforcement. This prison wasn't like the others. So we can't say that the same rules apply as to other prison escapes. I bet we find out what really happened to these guys when we positively ID who DB Cooper was, who shot Kennedy, and where mobsters hide their biggest players. All wonderfully exciting mysteries that someday will be nursery rhymes!! I mean, what were Jack and Jill really doing up on that hill? Will we ever know for sure?

The whole story sounds funny to me, how long was this escape in the making these was some very loyal guatds and inmates to have kept a secret for that length of time while the escape was in the making no one whispered a word. How much did they really have in order to have paid off everyone? Something doesn't set right because I'm sure they had people waiting to hear from them one way or another? What did they do when there was no contact? Well there are so many mysterys in life and this is one

If graves are dug up with a backhoe it's possible to NOT Leave trace evidence.

Why dont someone that lives near the area go out there to see for themselves? Multiple guys should be able to dig a hole big enough around that area.

I’m starting to believe this story. The guy meeting a Nun at first sounded crazy, but it kind of makes sense because that’s the only people allow into Alcatraz at the time. There was a police officer that testified he seen a boat in the bay that night of the escape. There’s a lot things that make this story plausible.

Thats me in this Doc, playing Frank Lee Morris. Making this documentary was a fantastic experience. The truth will never be known, but this story seems to have much truth within it.

Total crock from jump street. The guy was a 17 year old at the time. At most, he was a driver. So the planners told him everyone involved....who wrote this piece of bad fiction? BTW the families have now come forward admitting to contact. FBI now admits the boat with footprints walking away was found. And a man did report 3 men stole his car from the area....whoever sold you this tripe is a good con themselves.

Told they were stopping for a wee... the 2 get out from front and the 3 just stay there laying in the back, one even reading something without any particular light and during all this not even one of them had got out for wee or to stretch their legs or what have you... and the 2 had shot plenty of bullets without any concern that the odd bullet would penetrate the vehicle and hit fuel or render gear-box defunked or any other concern... the event so easily done and the 3 hardened crimes from Alcatraz having just put themselves totally into the hands of 2 crims without any concerns or suspicions at all that the 2 might do them wrong, seems beyond all just a bit too lardidar !!!

The story went so well up until the end where they claim to have shot and kill them. Those men didn't just escape, they survived and kept a very careful low profile.

I took a tour in '86 while pulled in there on a Cruiser. It seems to me they can say what they want of whomever, cause they can hide whatever they want. The mock up in the cells was cute as well as beefing up the the cell Clint Eastwood was filmed in. Pure Hollywood if you ask me!

Horrible documentary. Yes it was well done but it's only half of a documentary. It's like they ran out of money so they wrapped it up without doing ANYTHING to try to confirm their so-called "findings" in the woods. Why no metal detector to look for the box of horseshoes? At a MINIMUM that should have been done. Buy one in town for 100 bucks before you go back out the "next day". I'm sorry but this is like a bad 2-part Batman episode from the 60's. They end it on a *cough* cliffhanger but they never make Part 2.

The problem I have with this theory is that Uncle Don already had the cash in his hands before the guys even were picked up with the boat. If he really wanted to keep the cash he could have just not shown up with the boat and the men would be pronounced drowned and he'd have the money anyway. He's a convict too and had done a disappearing act once already. So he could have just disappeared with the money with no fuss at all. So why wait until they had them, let them live for a week or so, then kill them? Why do all that messy work when they really didn't have to do anything at all to get that money. Doesn't make sense.
