Finally someone checked this song, it's such an underrated one in their catalogue. For more of their heavy and short songs, I'd recommend Death of a Dream, Ascension and Martyr of the Free Word. For the longer, with proggier elements and different atmospheres (but still very heavy at some moments) I'd recommend Serenade of Self-Destruction, Fools of Damnation and Chasing the Dragon.

@@deminybs And the most underrated album RFTI... Songs like "Guilty Demeanor" where Simone sings in her lower register. "Deep Water Horizon" and "Avalanche" are wonderful songs too. The section of Avalanche with Simone's operatic vocals is pure eargasm.

Gonna reccomend Epica - Fools of Damnation studio version, from The Divine Conspiracy, the album before this, where Epica really deep dived into phrygian/arabian scale music, absolute banger of a song!

This is an absolutely amazing heavy banger! I think you start to understand why Epica is one of my two favourite bands. Epica has everyting what I need in a band, from heavy stuff with death metal elements to headbang on, beautiful ballads to get teary eyes with and everything in between. Well this band is called for that Epica and they deserve this name so much! Pls react to "Epica - Ascension - Dream State Armageddon (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)", you'll make alot of Epicans happy with this one 🤘🏻 And thank you for this amazing reaction I really like that you truly start to appreciate Epica!! Rock On! 🤘🏻

Great song, ive listened to all Epica songs several times, but sometimes a song is put a bit in the drawer, and some guy (you) open that drawer a moment, and you remember, hell yeah thats a kick ass song, i didnt dust off a while.. The cool thing with Epica song catalog is that they got sevral heavy songs, with almost death metal riff´s in it, they also got several Ballads, and they got the songs hitting in between, as well as the grand epic long songs.. Basicly they got what you are in the mood for on the day, if you first of all enjoy the bands basics..

So I did a comparison listen where I did the original Cry for the Moon and then the 20 yr anniversary from Omega (Cry for the Moon still) and damn it shows their own growth as individuals and a band together. But I also had 30k minutes listened to them on KZfaq Music in 2021 so I have a large bias

This song remains mostly hidden behind their more well-known song, but I like it because it is so driven guitars and drums. The keyboard´s sound in this is very similar to one they used in early MaYaN´s songs. Another song that quite often gets overlooked, which I understand as it only came out in Japan as a bonus track for The Quantum Enigma album. You can find it under: EPICA - Mirage Of Verity (Japanese Bonus Track) ---- It was composed by the bassist Rob van der Loo and I really like the strings-based intro.

there are no underrated songs when I listen to Epica....lol since I always pick an album and play it all the way through instead of jumping around (of course there's always exceptions) nice to see you checking out what could be considered "underrated" in the reaction community though!! 🤟🎶🥰

Thanks Joseph! Finally someone listened to my suggestions :D Design Your Universe (2009) is such an incredible album! Make sure you listen to the Gold Edition, including acoustic versions of their songs. I think you will really like Resign to Surrender, Martyr of the Free Word, Deconstruct. I personally also love Our Destiny for Simone's vocals. And of course Unleashed, which is one of their well known songs. Not to mention Kingdom of Heaven :) If you'd like to go even more back in time, into slightly more black metal sound, then "Death of a Dream" and "Fools of Damnation", both from their 2007 album "The Divine Conspiracy". Btw, that "singing to the rhythm" is called "staccato" in music theory, which means detached (as opposed to "legato", tied together). Notes are detached from each other by a short pause. It wasn't just Simone singing that, it's a whole choir. In fact, on album versions it's usually just choir, but in live performances, Simone tends to sing over choir backing tracks in most songs.

It could also be interesting to react to one of their first album. This could do an obvious reaction oriented to the progression of their style over the years. For example, the song "Facade of Reality" (or any other except "Cry for the Moon" since this song has a great interpretation in Omega Alive and would be better to discover it in Omega Alive!). They have a live studio recording of their whole first album, this studio recording is called "We will take you with us" (the band is young!).

Not one of their most popular songs I think but it's on Design your Universe which got recently voted as their best album in the official community (i voted for it as well). Great song honestly, gets overshadowed by the hits, but it's pretty good showcase of how heavy they can get while still retaining the duality between Mark and Simone which is their trademark. Glad to hear you are sold to the band. I know I have said a lot of times but again I have to recommend to pick up the Omega Alive entire concert and watch it from begining to end when you can. The singles they've released are great and a good selection but man the full show blows your mind, I'd be surprised if doesn't happen with you (but in that case I'd be interested in knowing your opinion regardless) Cheers!

It's easy to forget that Mark started off with After Forever, who while melodic (I mean Floor was the lead singer, but she got heavy too) he can rock with the best of em. People expect Epica to be symphonic, but they're very much metal when the mood strikes them. Great reaction! ( Check out After Forever, live preferably. The band rocks, and you get to see a very young Floor, she joined at 16)

Well, my 2 cents: Design Your Universe is the most elaborate and 'heaviest' album you'll get from Epica; everything else is like Disney mets 'Shingeki no Kyojin' 1st Season intro. Which is good, but they coudln't suceed going beyond this... at least not from my perspective. Phantom Agony, Consign to Oblivion and Divine Conspiracy albums are good too but DYU is by far the 'most' and that's why we get their 'Gold Edition'; however the first edition is great too. It would be good to see your analysis on any interesting song you can find from this band, though.
