Epica is heavy. More than many other symphonic metal band. Ascension is so great but no live available..

Epica is a great symphonic metal band. You should check the song Kingfom of Heaven (live at Mexico). It is a master piece from both musical and lyrics perspective

the holographic principle(the song) in my opinion is a musical masterpiece. Its a must watch.

This song is even better live. I’m very happy to see Epica here again 🤘🏻 nice to see people giving some love to Isaac’s guitar playing. He is one of my favorite guitarists. Also seems people here think the next Epica song should be “Ascension - Dreamstate Armageddon”, which I agree with cause it’s one of my favorites.

Their Attack on Titan covers are amazing too. Especially Wings of Freedom and Dedicate Your Heart!

Completely agree with what you say that there is a big divide with the very heavy and very melodic parts which is amazing on its own. But for me it also seems like it was a choice to do it like this because it fits with the story they are telling throughout the song. A great divide through the music and the story. Also as always great video guys keep your work up

Late Late (04:00) Night 29 Dec 2019, Retrospective Reaction #280... Epica, YEAAAHH! I am a _very_ recent *Epica* enthusiast, having first seen them live from afar across the field at Tuska Open Air in 2011, *but* been blown away by them _only_ at the end of 2018 after watching a _Consign to Oblivion_ (live) Reaction Video! *That* performance made an impact so *huge* that I immediately proceeded to acquire their entire back catalogue - a task I completed only revently, having searched long for the best edition of _The Quantum Enigma_ available... The upside was that I was able to binge their output within a short time period, which made me notice how mature *Mark Jansen* was as a songwriter from the very first album! He did, though, have *After Forever* behind him, so it's not like he started from scratch with Epica... Anyway, *Your Reaction:* "Ooh" is quite fitting a reaction! Mark and Simone are not as great vocalists as Marco and Floor, but holy shit, even though as a Finn, I should praise *Nightwish* over Epica, the objective _truth_ is that Mark has always been at least two steps ahead of Tuomas in terms of composing his songs, and indeed, Epica is So. Friggin'. Heavy. Pedro, you are so right about the dynamics within the song! And the solo, oh yeah... This song is indeed _so_ very near perfection.

Hey guys! This song is the heavy version of Universal Love Squad by Epica. The lyrics is almost same as in ULS.

I love this song. It just starts pounding and never lets up for a minute, and Mark Jansen's vocal section has got to be my favorite of any Epica song ever. You guys should do "Edge of the Blade" from the same album, and "Crimson Bow and Arrow" from the Attack on Titan EP.

If you want to listen to something different from them you might be intrested in listening to "Once upon a nightmare" The song itself is based upon an old horrific Nordic fairytale transformed to a Poem by Wolfgang von Goethe (basically the German Shakespeare) called The Erlking (Der Erlkönig) . The musical buildup is like the soundtrack of a movie with of sense forboding of the tragedy about to happen. The story is about a father racing through the night to get help for his sick son. That, in his fever-state, is having visions of gobling king trying to seduce him to enter the land of the dead. No growling in this song and Simone just sounds devine. The tragic conclusion makes this a piece of art. Great reaction guys. Epica is my favorite band alongside Nightwish. If you want softer songs by Epica, try Tides of time, solitary ground, canvas of life, once upon a nightmare or dreamscape (studio version). And if you want heavier stuff: in all conscience, death of a dream, incentive, the essence of silence, the second stone or semblance of liberty. And if you want to be amazed: beyond the matrix, ascension dream state armageddon or the holographic principle are good choices^^

I agree with everyone! You HAVE to check out Ascension - Dream State Armaggedon. It's pure awesomeness (unfortunately, there's no live version... which is sad, because it kicks complete ass). Also, Epica is the heaviest symphonic metal band I know. They have quite a lot of influences from death metal, if I'm not mistaken (or is it doom)? I'm sorry, I'm quite poop with differenciating doom and death metal. But they're heavy, and proggy, and awesome. I love them.
