Lecture 8 Note by "Slave of Allah" Surah Al-Anfal • 75 verses. • Earliest madani surah. • Right after the battle of badr. • Spoils of war. • Entirely about battle of badr. • First major battle of Muslims with the quraish. • Took place on the second year of hijra in the month of ramadan. • Muslims were persecuted for 13 years. • They were denied basics rights. • Then they migrated to Madina. • Abu sufyans main annual caravan was passing by madina to syriya. • Muslims planned to attack the caravan. • Abu sufyan heard it earlier that Muslims are going to attack. • So he planned and gathered the rest of quraish. • Around a 1000+ massive army of quraish. • Abu jahal and army marched for war. • Before the night of the war prophet ﷺ saw a dream that the opposition were not in many army. • So now the battle was against Abu jahal. • Prophet called for a meeting on the plains of badr. • Aroud 310+ Muslims were present. • 90 were muhajeroon (those who migrated with the prophet ﷺ to madina) • 210+ were ansar (people of madina), they have taken an oath (oath of aqaba) with the prophet ﷺ that they will help him if he was attacked in madina. • But badr was outside madina, but it was asked to the people of madina whether they could help, and they agreed for it. • Most people and the leader of the Ansar confirmed they will help and be with the prophet ﷺ. • Battle of the badr was a victory. • Over 70+ leaders of the quraish were killed, and over 70+ prisoners of war and it was the first time for Muslims. • So Muslims acquired wealth and prisoners of war and they were confused what to do so Allah revealed a surah. • V.1 they ask you about the bounties, say it all belong to Allah. • Spoils of war was allowed for only our ummah. • V.2-v.5 Allah says about believers. • V.5 a party of the believers were unwilling to the war. • V.7 Allah’s promise, and Allah’s plan. • V.8. this was the plan and wisdom of Allah. • V.9. Allah answered prophet ﷺ long persistent du’a, Allah sent 1000 angels as help. • V.10. victory only comes from Allah. • V.11.night before the battle Allah made them go to sleep, Allah rained the right amount of rain to make the earth firm. • V.12. Allah commands to the angels. • V.17. it was Allah who did all this. • Prophet threw some sand to the coming direction of quraish and all of the quraish were blindfolded and felt the sand, Allah says in V.17 that it is Allah who did it. • V.23.Allah says about the quraish and their attitude. • V.28. wealth and children are a test from Allah. • V.30. the plan and the authority of Allah, he is the best of planners. • V.32, 33. Quraish mocked Allah, the presence of the prophet ﷺ was a blessing for them. • V.36. the quraish raised fund to fight against muslims. • V.38. if the quraish stopped and repented Allah would have forgiven them their past but they persisted. • V.39. why was the war, because they caused fithnah. • V.41. legal laws regarding spoils of war. • Only interpret the rules with all conditions. 35:35 laws of spoils of war. • V.42. belief in the Qadr of Allah and Allah’s plan. • V.43. the dream of the prophet ﷺ, that he saw only few people of quraish, Allah helped them through dream to make them courageous. • V44. The miracle of Allah, Allah made the quraish a few in the sight of Muslims and vice versa and the Muslims won. • V.45, 46, remember Allah, obey his messenger. • V.47. be sincere. • V.60. Allah tells them before war even though the help of Allah is present prepare whatever possible, (training etc.) • Tawakkul is you do whatever you can and place your trust in Allah. • V.61. if they incline to peace, then incline to it. • V.63 Allah remind his blessings. Allah united their hearts (The ouz and khazraj). • V.64-66 ratio of people for war. • V.67.dispute among prisoners of war. • Ransom based on their wealth. • V.70.
