---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Epilepsy is a common condition that affects the brain and causes frequent seizures. Seizures are bursts of electrical activity in the brain that temporarily affect how it works. They can cause a wide range of symptoms. Epilepsy can start at any age, but usually starts either in childhood or in people over 60.
DESCRIPTION:
In this video, Dr. Najeeb presents the steps for evaluating a patient with seizures. He differentiates the types of seizures including partial and complex seizures and further goes on to elaborate on the different types of partial seizures including simple partial and complex partial seizures. He also describes the electrophysiological evaluation of the brain's electrical activity including anatomical localization of the seizure origin and concepts of symptomatic and idiopathic epilepsy. Furthermore, he talks about the different types of partial epilepsy and explains how partial epilepsy becomes general epilepsy. He then gives an overview of the different types of generalized epilepsy. In the end, he briefly discusses types of epilepsy requiring thorough investigations and some drugs used in different types of management plans.
