As some one who is aware during their seizures I can not stress how big talking to someone who is seizing is. Seizures are scary, and knowing someone is there is a HUGE relief

I too have seizures! I am fortunate to catch my seizure within a minute before the signal comes! I have a V-P shunt! If the shunt malfunctions or hits a sensor, my left leg is partially paralyzed and that is the moment I know seizure is coming. Fortunately I am conscious during that time

Maka Tusaumwe My epilepsy started at school. First seizure happened on the school bus on the way home. I told the escort I didn’t feel well she said you’ll be fine you’ll be home soon, then shortly after that I had a tonic clonic. The escort never dismissed me again when I said I didn’t feel well.

Unfortunately ''these kinds of things'' come in many varieties. The most common type of epilepsy is Juvenile Myoklonic Epilepsy(JME). As the name suggests it sets in during puperty and is therefore arguably the most cruel kind. Imagine a 14 year old F1 fan being told he'll never drive, or in my case scuba dive. It also doesn't affect learning capacity nor motor control, so to add to further insult sufferers don't feel sick, until they do. But, however brutal it may look, this very common epilepsy is completely harmless. So if you see someone having a seizure they're likely not in any immediate danger.

Watching someone go through a seizure can be frightening, because they may never have seen some one going through this before, particularly on this scale. So it is important that we teach how to deal with someone that is going through this. It's just as important to be educated on what not to do as well as what to do. Where I work, they hadn't seen someone going through a seizure until I had several of varying types. Starting with absent and developing into a grand mal or tonic-clonic. I reassured them that it was nothing to be frightened of and how to deal with me and others should we be seen to be going through any form of seizure. It's amazing when you talk to people the concept of their interpretation of how person reacts when going through a grand mal or tonic-clonic. One person told me that they thought white foam filled the room once a person was fitting. They took a course in first-aid after that and began teaching after how to deal with people going through seizures. For many years it's been at a taboo subject but now finally is coming into the light. But it is thanks to those people that are prepared to film and post these events in someone's life particularly when it's a loved one of theirs. Thank you.

My friend today he fell onto my shoulder and his head landed on the soft styrofoam mannequin while doing cpr training. After it started, all I remember is keeping my hand on his back, and him shaking, me asking if he wanted me to take my hand off. I was terrified, but I knew I couldn’t just leave him. I stayed with him until the paramedics took him in a wheelchair. It was truly terrifying

I have tonic-clonic and Focal seizures. I was diagnosed at 19. Thankfully they aren't often, but it scares the crap out of people if I fall with the tonic-clonic ones. I took one in the office and whacked my head off my desk. But thankfully the other staff were aware that I have epilepsy. Still think it scared the guy on the opposite side of the partition. One min I'm waiting for my PC to start next min I'm waking up on the floor. Also never realised I took a focal one on the way to school one day. I was on the bus and had this feeling, didn't know what it was. To eventually be told a number of years later I actually grabbed the hand of my friend when on the bus during it.

I was ready to cringe, but the video is spot on. She handled the simulation very well. Great training. Breaking people of putting object into their mouths and either breaking teeth or forcing the tongue back and possibly chocking them. Also the left side recovery was perfect. Loved that she timed it. I have videoed a seizure and before watching I claimed it lasted 5 min. It really was 2 min, but with a loved one time goes so slow.

*awed tones* Oh my gosh, I thought the same thing! I learned that if somebody is epileptic ...you don't leave then unsupervised, much less when they're asleep! If somebody else had only been in the same room to keep an eye on him, he might've at least had a chance of living *whimpers sadly* 😥 It's-it's so sad...he did not deserve that at all! If I could've done anything to bring him back, I would 😥

As someone who’s epileptic, if your seizure are well controlled, you don’t need constant supervision unless your seizures happen frequently. Cameron Boyce died because he went into status epilepticus, which means his seizure went longer than 5 minutes. That’s when it gets dangerous, as you can go into cardiac arrest or your brain can overheat in a sense.

Thankfully we had two people with good medical training present, who took care of him. When he came around, his first worry was if he could re-take the exam. (He could. For me, living with epilepsy has definitely been a roller coaster ride with many ups and downs. In my videos, I discuss how to cope with your feelings, learning how to deal with the endless emotions you experience living with epilepsy. When I googled epilepsy on the Internet there were lots of videos and articles on, what epilepsy was, the symptoms of epilepsy, the medications for epilepsy, etc., but there were very few articles about coping with your negative emotions caused by epilepsy. We need to focus on the emotional aspect more.

Thank you for sharing this. It will help a great deal of people. I suffer from epilepsy and dont frequently have them but its upsetting when people dont know what to do. One colleague at work once told me when I had a seizure that it was one of the most scariest moments in her life. Although it is true that really upset me. I've never seen a tonic clonic before but at least I know what everyone else sees when I have one. Thank you for sharing this xx

My sister has epilepsy and I was in school with my little sister and I remember being called almost everyday to help them when she had seizures. I had to show them what to do because not everyone knows how to handle a seizure. After they learned how to they called me mainly so she was coming back to a familiar face.

I wish everyone get so calm like this when dealing with epileptic patients, me myself is patient of epilepsy too..and not everyone can handle this gently..even up until now my own family still flustered if I got into seizure. What’s more impressive is in this video, she counted with her stopwatch of how long the seizure last because it’s a vital point too, and the head tily-chin lift is (in my case) something that sometimes being overlook by the helper.

Tonic clonic while awake is terrifying. I’ve had these for years but the past few years I’m awake and fully aware of my surroundings. I wish people would educate themselves more on this because it’s frustrating somebody telling you that you have something that doesn’t exist and that you’re faking it which is what I had to deal with in school.

@@carl8745 I know that feeling, you are aware that your body moving, but can't control it (still one of the scariest thing for me), and the people surround you only stare at you...even when your head banging at the floor. Some of my family still think that I am just attention seeker, because I'm very prone to light and sound it's like a joke for them. So yeah, it's frustrating. I can't even go to concert anymore (the light n the sound is too much for me to handle), and yet they still think that I'm faking it. It's not like we want this illness....

@@25beee Mine have progressed to this point where I can remember. Had epilepsy since the age of 5 and I had one of these seizures last Sunday as I was sitting down to eat my dad had to stop my head from hitting the wall repeatedly because of where I was. I’m still feeling the after effects of it. I’ve had 5 of these seizures throughout lockdown I have been referred to neurology in the hope they can help me. Anti-epileptic medication isn’t as effective as it should be. My seizures get worse every time. I don’t know what to do anymore. Surely your parents would be more understanding that you have to put up with this. I wouldn’t wish this on myself. Anyone with any sense wouldn’t wish this on themselves. I had an unexplained brain bleed before I was born and that’s what started it for me.

@@carl8745 I was diagnosed when I was 22 yo, the cause is idiopathic but from MRI there's part of my brain that already shrinks. When I was a kid my parents said there's no symptom, actually I can't really relay on that, my parents were very busy so the chance they notice it, was very low. My life change very drastically, I used to go to concert or watch film which have so many light (especially white light) and sudden loud audio, now I can't do that. Well form watch film I can still do that, because I trained myself to avert my eyes every time there's a probability a blitz come out. Now I can't live without meds, if I drink my meds too late, the seizure will appear. I hope you can have a better result after you referred to neurology. So since 5 yo you haven't gone to neurologist?

So I went but then looked behind and say my classmate shaking on the floor with her skin pale and eyes crossed, so I go out to the cafeteria and I hear people saying she just had a seizure, At the beginning of the year are teacher said that we have to look out for this to happen, but are other teacher told us she was ok but was going home for the day, cause after it is tiring, and so that is my storie

My birthday is May 27th 2008I had one seizure October 20th of 2021 then one November 23rd. They were both terrifying. The first one I was home with just my dad then the second one I was with my best friend and she got traumatized. They were both so scary. I also have type 1 diabetes so when I had my first seizure we thought it was because my blood sugar was low but it wasn’t. This November is one year seizure free!

Epilepsy is a group of neurological disorders characterized by epileptic seizures.[10][11] Epileptic seizures are episodes that can vary from brief and nearly undetectable periods to long periods of vigorous shaking.[1] These episodes can result in physical injuries, including occasionally broken bones.[1] In epilepsy, seizures tend to recur and, as a rule, have no immediate underlying cause.[10] Isolated seizures that are provoked by a specific cause such as poisoning are not deemed to represent epilepsy.[12] People with epilepsy may be treated differently in various areas of the world and experience varying degrees of social stigma due to their condition.[1] The cause of most cases of epilepsy is unknown.[1] Some cases occur as the result of brain injury, stroke, brain tumors, infections of the brain, and birth defects through a process known as epileptogenesis.[1][2][3] Known genetic mutations are directly linked to a small proportion of cases.[4][13] Epileptic seizures are the result of excessive and abnormal neuronal activity in the cortex of the brain.[12] The diagnosis involves ruling out other conditions that might cause similar symptoms, such as fainting, and determining if another cause of seizures is present, such as alcohol withdrawal or electrolyte problems.[4] This may be partly done by imaging the brain and performing blood tests.[4] Epilepsy can often be confirmed with an electroencephalogram (EEG), but a normal test does not rule out the condition.[4] Epilepsy that occurs as a result of other issues may be preventable.[1] Seizures are controllable with medication in about 70% of cases.[7] Inexpensive options are often available.[1] In those whose seizures do not respond to medication, surgery, neurostimulation or dietary changes may then be considered.[5][6] Not all cases of epilepsy are lifelong, and many people improve to the point that treatment is no longer needed.[1] But is its now

One important thing to add though- In this clip the seizure happened in a gymnasium which is indeed a large space with no obstacles, but if it occurs in class for example, you have to move all tables and chairs away from the victim QUICK. Because, during the seizures, the convulsions can be of such force that the victim can get seriously injured, like fracturing an arm or a leg, if he/she hits something hard. A classmate of mine had two seizures in class during the same year in middle school, luckily in both cases, he escaped additional injuries, but had to be stretchered off to the hospital by EMTs because the seizure knocked him unconscious. :(

The people making fun of you says more about them than it does about you, what will really make stronger is if you feel comfortable about feeling uncomfortable, sending love and light 💕

My classmate Devonte' had seizures since freshmen year and that really scared me. When he had a seizure for the third time in English class of sophomore year last year, I was a lot scared and got a heart heat. Even the teacher panicked. Devonte' eventually passed out like his previous seizures and also drools on the right and collapses on the same side when he have seizures. The teacher called the office by pushing the call button on the classroom wall, tell the office staff to send a nurse to the classroom and the nurse eventually arrived along with a assistant principal. They both monitored Devonte' until if he is able to wake up. The assistant principal told me during my lunch time that Devonte' eventually woke up and got sent home by his mom after I started a discussion with him about Devonte' situation of his seizure. This happened on Day of the Dead and a pep rally day. That event traumatized me that I was scared that Devonte' would have another seizure for the fourth time.
