I just bought an Epiphone 150th Anniversary Sheraton. I love it...

Only Gibson would put Laurel on a guitar of this price. They don't forget their old ways when they used richlite in their most expensive LP, the 355 and other non afforable guitars while $900 Charvels & Reverends had ebony fretboards. They really made an effort to use the palest fretboard wood I've seen in years. Nice demo as usual.

I loved the Wilshire. Absolutely a useful range of tones. You could easily pull off a gig in any style with this one. Also, what a great price at $829.

I bought a sheraton ii years ago and it gets better with age, mine is black with gold hardware, the neck is fat and I can play it for hours, looks really nice next to my american strats and les paul standards.

I find these disappointing. The headstock inlay isn’t. It isn’t mother of pearl, or even acrylic… it is a sticker. Next, they used a polyurethane finish. If Epiphone couldn’t do this anniversary model right they should have hired Eastman (also in China) to do this right.

I think the Sheraton is about fourteen hundred quid for a Chinese guitar and you get an Indian laurel fretboard ?

@@murphytoonz you get a MUCH better deal with Eastman. Also made in China. Nitro finish. Hard case. Oh and it’s a rosewood or ebony fretboard

Daniel Doran I know mate. I own one. Played loads of 335s and I mean loads. Some were ok, most were not and then one day picked up an Eastman. That was it. Plus I saved myself a load of cash.

Essentially what Alan Sugar used to call a “Mugs Eyeful”. Good luck with the resale value 😁

For my ears the Sheraton and Willshire stand out, the Regent on vintage vibe alone. The Sheraton has such classic 335 sounds, it's unreal. The Willshire a kind of honky spank on the bridge so compelling, you'd want to reach out and do James Burton/Roy Buchanan licks all night long. The cases of all these look great too. I own an Epi LP Custom tobacco s'burst (Korean, circa 2005) that looks and sounds top quality, easily comparable to Gibson. In fact I'd take the Epi on preference, it's what converted me to LP's, not Gibson. Couldn't recommend these highly enough. My only gripe is the Indian laurel milky blandness on the Sheraton demo'd, esp for one and a half grand. Surely they could at least stain it down. Make or break buying feature for me.

I’d love to get my hands on one for a proper look but I can’t shake the feeling that while these look great, they’re probably low spec, high cost guitars. I’d be more likely to search for a good deal on a 90’s Epi. Obviously, I could be massively wrong.

These are really cool, not commenting on the price because we all know thats an issue. But I love to see Epiphone reclaiming it's original identity and heritage a bit more these days. Plus they look and sound great!

Very nice playing and review of the 150th anniversary models! I'm surprised Gibson/Epiphone didn’t use rosewood or ebony in any of the models. The Wilshire model stands out for me from this video. Looks good, sounds great, and looks like it plays well too.

I would prefer to hear these guitars played through a clean amp without reverb. Especially the hollow body and semi hollow body.

Fab review Jamie. You got some great sounds out of all the guitars. I picked up the Crestwood when launched. My first ever Epiphone and guitar of any brand in that colour. It's overpriced for sure, but it is a really fun guitar to play especially with the mini-humbuckers and trem.

Why use Laurel fretboard??? Ebony would have been more desirable especially for the price

The new modern Epiphone Z Deluxe Regent have a quite beauty Ebony fretboard, I think. In fact, I want to buy the Z straight away, soon. Really nice elegant, a bit mellow sound but not a dull electric guitar. It is have J Lee Hooker/early George Harrison vibe for "a traditional Jazz" guitar *sorry for my English grammar

I just can't get on board with the Indian Laurel Epiphone use. I've had it on a few new Epiphones now and it just spoils them. The Indian Laurel that Squier use on their classic vibes doesn't look half as bad.

I like the guitars, but they're not cheap, they're made in china (zephyr in indonesia), & all but the zephyr have laurel fretboards. It's like epiphone is throwing a 150th birthday bash, charging $100 to attend, & serving cheese, crackers & coke.

No, they they are mother of pearl. Epiphone has quite a few models that mother of pearl especially their high end modles. Most of epiphone higher end models have mop inlays and logos such as the prophecy line. The Wilshire and crestwood it doesn't mention what the inlays are but it wouldn't surprise me if they are mother of pearl. Gibson and epiphone has used acrylic and celluloid on their models for years too.

Disappointing. The Casino 1961 50th anniversary and the 1962 50th anniversary Sheraton, Crestwood and Sorrento were much better value for the money, and we're talking about guitars made in China 10+ years ago. Epiphones are now stuck in a weird limbo between a cheap Chinese and a expensive USA guitar.

correction: I remembered that at least the 50th anniversary Crestwood was made in Indonesia, not China. May account for something.

This is such a wasted opportunity, and so frustratingly stuck in no man’s land. They could have done it in America and made it top quality and a completely faithful reissue like the Fender American Vintage ii and made it worth the money, or did this more basic and not outstanding take on it, made in China, but made it cost less and wide open to modifications etc. As it is, though, I wonder who it’s really for
