Epiphone Sheraton Gets New Pots and Tone Caps

This was a a beauty of a guitar. But being a hollow body instrument with no access to the electronics, it's fun to rewire or change anything.
Here's how I do it.

If you are still monitoring this video. What is the make, value and model of the replacement pots? What is the make model, value of the capacitor? What web address did you buy the components? Are the same pots interchangeable on a Epiphone Les Paul and SG?

Hi Stanley, I answered those questions in someone else’s comment below. 500K pot and 0.022uF caps. The pots are Bournes brand and the caps are Orange Drops. I buy the components locally here in Australia. The shop doesn’t have a web address. I’m not sure about interchangeably as a Les Paul and SG are solid body. You may need to enlarge the diameter of the holes for the pots.

man that looks tough, why don’t they have an access panel of some kind on the guitar? What a stupid, poorly thought out, and outdated design lol. Thanks for showing how it’s done

Yeah, it’s certainly not a fun way to quickly swap some electronics… take the weekend off and buy a few six packs!

Are those standard size (not mini) pots? Was it hard to fit them with the orange caps?

The replacement pots are full size. Take your time and protect the guitar finish. They do fit with lots of patience and gentle manoeuvring.

@@whatsstefon thank you, I’ve been trying to get full size circular CTS pots in and they just won’t seem to go. I’ll continue to be patient but yours seem to maybe be a bit more oval shaped?

@@alexlaserbeam it might be the camera but they are round, regular pots. Just take your time and if you get frustrated. Just stop and walk away for a bit. It’s not an easy job at all

@@whatsstefon just to be clear, they will eventually fit through the f hole?

@@alexlaserbeam 100% they will. The reason I cut the video at the end where I’m fitting them is purely because it would turn the video into a 3hr long boring vid. But they will fit. Keep the f holes taped up and use as much time and patience as you need. It’s not easy. Whatever you do, don’t force anything.

Did it make a difference in the tone.I have a 1997 Korean epiphone Sheraton with electric city pickups I'm thinking of doing the pods and caps and maybe pickups.I get a feedback of strings when i'm recording...Hard to mute strings when doing solo's.

I believe it did. As some other comments have said, If you’re there, you might as well do all of it. The customer at the time only wanted these improvements. So definitely go for all the components being changed. As for feedback, it is a hollow guitar after all, so that may not really change with any pickups.

@@ObjectiveDynamics that would make it a semi hollow body I guess. But the same procedure for the job applies here. No difference for the topic of the video.
