On this episode of Conversations on Leadership with Dr. Dave, we are pleased to feature special guest, Dr. George Hummer.
Dr. Hummer gives us a great perspective of leadership and hard work from a K12 educational leadership perspective.
He began serving as Frederick County’s Superintendent of Schools in January of 2023. He is a native of New Jersey who moved to Virginia in 1994. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Radford University in 2005.
A little bit about his background and career, Dr. Hummer also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and special education from the University of Mary Washington as well as a doctorate in educational leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
George credits his mother, who was a lifelong special education teacher, with inspiring him to pursue a career in education. He began his career as a special education teacher, athletic director, and football and basketball coach.
Shortly thereafter, he moved into administration as an assistant principal. George moved to the Supervisor for, then Executive Director Student Services & Special Education, then the Chief Student Support Services Officer for Stafford County prior to taking the Superintendent’s position at Frederick County, VA.
George shares some unique perspectives on leadership, a phenomenal ‘can-do’ attitude, and a mindset shift of growing where you’re planted.
