In this video I apply Interlux InterProtect 2000E barrier coat and Interlux Micron CSC antifouling bottom paint to our 1975 Alberg 30 sailboat.

Well done Aqua Marie, having done this same job on a sailboat years ago I can respect the work involved to get the bottom to the state she is in. A 20 minute video can't do justice to the endless hours it takes to get to the end product.

The old spots you are finding going into the gelcoat look like blisters having been removed and filled

I guess that's possible - they may have been blisters, but i don't think they were ever filled. They were down to the fiberglass and painted over only with antifoul bottom paint. But, you may be right - perhaps there was a layer of unthickened epoxy on them acting as barrier coat and I just couldn't tell.

Great video and attention to detail. I had my boat sandblasted just before the Canadian winter and will do the same job in the spring. I had understood the recommendation was to get all of the interprotect coats on in one go, waiting in between coats until it was tacky but did not come off on your finger tips. Seems you did it over a couple of weekends. Did you have to sand in between?

Interprotect 2000E has an overcoat max time of 6 months when overcoating with itself. It's a matter of hours with the thumbprint test for something like Micron CSC. I didn't sand between I2000E coats (except for when I did some additional fairing).

I don't see why you spent all that money on fairing compound. Because I don't think the fish would have complained about it. And the fish would have been the only ones to see it. Once it was in the water, it would not have affected performance.

Fairing compound isn't all that expensive. Plus if I ever were to sell the boat, I'm sure a potential buyer would look at it as poor craftsmanship and wonder about the quality of the rest of the work. It's plenty visible to all when up on the hard. I had the time and opportunity, so I did it. If I were paying money at a boatyard and anxious to get it back in the water, then I'd probably wouldn't have bothered.

Pride of ownership. He’s thinking no down the road. There is no substitute for good quality whether you are paying for it or doing it yourself.
