The Secret Life of PD: In this episode, we discuss another side of Parkinson's that is not visible to others - hallucinations. PD patients who experience hallucinations may dismiss what's occurring or hesitate to discuss it with caregivers, fearing what others think. Speak up and talk to your physician.

Hi Jessica and Brian. I am 68 and I have hallucinations. They are not scary. One recurring hallucination is my mom and dad standing over me as I sleep. I find it very comforting. 🌺

My brother, 87, hears things very vividly and gets very angry with me when I tell him there is nothing there. He went outside undressed & barefoot to investigate at 4am, a dangerous situation now that winter is approaching This scenario has occurred several times with voices as well, but I was able to intercept him before he exited the house. He also had a vivid dream about starting my car & being unable to shut it off My nights are sleepless & tension between us is rising I have a meeting with a neurologist in December, the closest appointment I could schedule

Hi, enjoy the videos, 79 and diagnosed 5 months ago. Haven’t found a Pd group like you enjoy. Even though we’re miles apart in age, I enjoy the down to earth candor and explanations of what you’ve gone through. Tried Patients like me and found it too complicated. Enjoy your efforts and you might ask your secret audience without a group for what they would liked discussed. Thanks

I'm glad you found us! I would love to hear from others (including you) what you would like to hear us discuss! I'm sorry you haven't found a PD group. What city are you located in? Sometimes there are PD groups around, but because many people don't talk about it, they are hard to find. But people at the Michael J Fox foundation might be able to help!

As far as Hearing things, remember when you were a kid at the beach and you could always hear someone’s transistor radio from far away down the beach, that happens to me all the time!

The vivid dreams are even more fun when you've got REM sleep behavior disorder symptoms when you act out what you're dreaming about.

I was diagnosed with RBD in July. I've probably had it for years but didn't realize it was a "thing". Which turned out to be an early warning sign for PD 😕

I used to have crazy real dreams also. For me there was a simple fix. I cut back/down on my levadopa and more evenly spread my dosage throughout the day. I also don’t take levadopa after 8pm. I still dream, but normal dreams.

I just stumbled upon your podcast tonight during one of my sleepless nights, and yes I have many sleepless nights. I have head hallucinations for quite sometime. I was diagnosed in October 2017. The crazy dreams and shouting in my sleep, thrashing about and also falling (more like jumping) out of bed all started a couple of years before my diagnosis, I attribute all of that to the PD, not the meds. I have broken several bones - ribs, wrist, ankle, fingers, and my sacrum. I am a 64 year old woman and I have my bed pushed up against the wall and my husband on my other side so I can’t fall out. But the hallucinations are never scary and I’m never shocked . It’s more like ,” Oh there goes that lamp again walking across the room!! “ I just accept it and go on with my night. It’s a very strange disease! I was wondering Jessica, when you talked about addictions, did you mean ICD - Impulse Control Disorder, it’s very common in PD.

Yes, I was referring to Impulse Control Disorder. It's a potential side effect of Ropinirole. Curious to know, based on your description of your sleep and hallucinations, do you have PD or MSA?

When I was first diagnosed and put on medication, I started seeing little animals that would run by. I was in the bank parking lot and saw a little skunk run under a ladies car. I even stopped her and told her there was a skunk under her car

Amantadine got me walking again but the nightmares I had scared even my wife who sleeps at the other end of the house. Some were very demonic and I'm A Christian. After DBS surgery I was able to reduce my meds and now its not as bad.

I had the crazy-real dreams for a while but they're gone now. More recently I've had problems when waking -- things that I know aren't in the room -- appear for the first few seconds of consciousness. Even though you know what's going on it's still a bit of a shock sometimes.

I had hallucinations for a while but have not for the last year or so. I am on levodopa and the dosage has been increased quite a bit this year and I cant remember the last time I had a hallucination. They are very strange to say the least. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago.

Hi Bill! Did the doctor say the levodopa helped eliminate the hallucinations or is it just that your symptoms changed? That’s interesting!

My boyfriend was given a Parkinson medication. Itbcaused him to get terrible anxiety and depression which he didn' t have before. He killed himself on 09-14-22 because he didn' t think he would ever improve on the Zoloft once he was off of his medication.

As far as dreaming, i found that i dont remember my dreams if i take some edibles with thc in it. I still am very active when i sleep but i dont remember dreaming or yelling in my sleep with the edibles. I see a lot of things moving in my peripheral vision. It was happening before starting levadopa. I occasionally will hear a few mumbled words that i cant make out that other people dont hear. I have not told anyone about that part though. I just try to ignore it the best i can. Thank you for your vids. Good content

You'll definitely want to tune in to our episode called "Tips and Tricks" which will be released in the next week. Brian actually shows the mouse he recently purchased to help with his control. I loved it so much I'm going to buy one myself! As for texting...try either voice text or keeping your elbows/arms close to your body/torso area to help slow the shaking. Hope that helps!

I had the same problem before my diagnosis. If you want a quick fix with no side effects try 5 to 10mg THC of cannabis. The mg’s are so that there is no “high”, but the tremors stop.
