Many congratulations to Sky for this lovely documentary. Brought back memories of the time I was as a Management Trainee in Kolkata and watched the first test at Eden Gardens. Even got to meet the Indian cricketers during practice prior to the test match - times were such. Mike Atherton is a first rate communicator.

There is lot that you can from this document. Loosing is not the end. Have fun and keeping the dressingroom cheerful was a way of life for this English players. They knew that a day may be of or rather the whole series but they enjoyed their cricket and the company of each other.....

I heard this series on the radio while an Irish expat in Bristol. Misery loves company and I followed the English cricket and Irish rugby teams in a rough decade for both, but -as the video reminds us- a good decade for music. It shows a different world; less money, less training or facilities but more freedom for sportsmen; ask current sportsmen such as the All Blacks or Aussie cricketers to reflect on a tour as unsuccessful as that and they would view it very differently . I bet veterans of that era envy the current players' financial rewards less than you would expect given the difference. Also good to see the comments from Indian supporters.

As a 12 year old that time this clip is nostalgic for me. I watched every match of that series especially that 200 of Kambli on a Sunday. However how did you miss the catch that Gatting took of Kambli to dismiss him on 224?

Brilliant documentry series

I was in Class 12th and this was the first Indian home series on Prime Sports (later Star Sports) .Nostalgic memories of watching some of the match at home of one of our classmates also after exam .India got it's 3-spinner template at home from this series and has followed it to dominate home series past 30 years now.

So it shows even defeats can be memorable n joyful.WE must learn from these great english players

Brilliant brilliant documentary! It was the first series I ever followed. We didn't realise it then, but it was the beginning of a new era for India in general and Indian cricket even more so. The economy had just opened and MNCs wanted to be associated with the national passion. The results are there for all to see

actually frm this series onwards, india started becoming formidable at home which continued through-out 90s , 2000s & 2010-2020, this series is still memorable for many reasons , azhar's captaincy was saved , tendulkar was already a star by then he just continued with tht, kumble bcm a star frm this series , this was his series practically , navjot singh sidhu got a fresh lease of lyf in this series too with his attacking batting, prabhakar contributed with both bat & ball, vinod kambli was a discovery tht time too, he was compared at par with tendulkar at tht time, infact he had a natural technique of playing gd pull shots to fastbowlers which indian batsmen rarely hav, those days he looked more a west-indian batsmen, but his indiscipline cost his career & by 95-96 he lost his form , as a teenager tht time in 93 this series takes me bck to so many fond memories

Sachin later on did get stumped once in his Test Career. vs Another English left arm spinner , i.e Ashley Giles. It took a lot of negative line bowling & field setting by Nasser Hussain.

Great documentary Athers. I was an 8 year old boy back then just beginning to watch and understand the game. I have quite vague memories of the series,but I do remember kambli's double hundred though.

i watched the first test at eden gardens on 3rd & 4th days i was in 6th standard then, the 5th & final day , ind just needed abt 40-50 odd to win, play happ for abt 1 hr or so, i was in schl, when we hrd ind winning, it was around 9.45-10 am , we cud hear fireworks on the streets , those days ppl wud do fireworks like diwali even if ind won a test match at home , i did fireworks too after returning frm schl in the noon

Think Gatt's catching effort can only be matched by Tony Greig's at the Brabourne stadium in 1973!! Boy, was Tony a favorite with the Indian crowds on both his tours!! God bless his soul.

This series was against an English side which I don't think was worthy enough to play a charity match. It was ageing, it was divided, it lacked discipline. True there was formidable talent in newcomers like Hick, Atherton and Stewart, the rest, including an ATG like Gooch, weren't half the players who had just been the runners-up of the World Cup concluded just the previous year.
