My therapist suggested the book No Bad Parts. And as I open the book and turn to read the Forward, I couldn't believe what I saw. Written by Alanis Morrissette. You and your music were such a huge part of my teenage years and still mean so much to me. Thank you for supporting IFS and Dr Schwartz!

Yeah.. certainly, this form is kickstarting the revolution with me.. i've been in the mental health maze for ten years now, but when i did ifs, for the first time i sensed a real sense of hope and growth, but also a real leadership within that growth, instead of some outside force who's there to help me

I haven’t watched this channel before but I have recently watched dozens of IFS videos and interviews with Dick Schwartz. This is definitely the best interview and is so much better than just watching him speak to an audience. I don’t know Alanis Morissette but she was very well prepared, had done the ground work and had excellent well informed questions and comments and relating it to her own situation made it much more easy to comprehend. She maybe spoke a little bit too much but she was nervous in the company of her hero and that is to be expected but everything she said was well worth hearing and has really sold this therapy to me. I think Dr Schwartz was very happy with her contribution as it brought up so many different things I have not heard him before. Also it was wonderful that she was not a professional speaker of psychobabble, as it was so easy to understand. ThankQ Namaste 🙏

I have ran into your name twice now on my mental health journey. First was the HSP documentary and now I have enrolled in therapy and my therapist has recommended IFS therapy. I found this podcast looking for articles on the therapy. I just wanted to say thank you for giving your time for awareness. Love ya girl & I've been a fan since my mom bought the little jagged pill album. I was raised on your music and you are my adult life role model. Thank u thank u thank u

ALANIS & RICHARD, there is soooooo much packed into this interview, that I don't know where to begin? Thank you so much!!! The chemistry created by Alanis your questions, and Richard your responses, carved a depth of understanding, a flexible and free interpretation of how powerful and effective IFS can be!!! I don't know what to say, Thank you both so much!!! No doubt this will require several listenings!!!😃. 💙. 💜. ❤. 🎼. 🎹. 🎤. 😇

Listening to this conversation is really just blowing my mind right now. I've been researching Narcissistic Personality Disorder and the lack of empathy in our culture and even my own family lately so I again just feel this sisterhood or bond of some sort even past the appreciation of your art. Thank you for sharing this 🙏🏼

The rejection I felt when i explained what I was going through made my child part scared he was still dead and then i felt that uncanny feeling and horror that i was indeed dead so i had to fully believe myself and accept I had parts and Im finding inner self love along the way. Im deeply saddened for the poor boy locked away for all those years

I am an IFS psychotherapist and I can attest to the life-changing effects that come from this work. As a therapist, I feel as if I am privy to sacred space as my clients process their parts. It is such a wonderful, powerful, and gentle approach to healing.

i always enjoy a good conversation. i believe in the simple fairy tale, i believe in soft n' sweet, i believe in mother nature, and making love and peace, i dont believe in the way things are, and i dont believe in pain......but thats just something that you feel when you try to take ahold of things.. what do you believe in =]

My last therapist modeled her sessions on a lot of his work. I found myself going in circles an awful lot. "Inside Out" borrowed from his work as well I think.

Do parts always manifest as an inner child? Or is that just the most common since we tend to develop complexes (parts) during childhood?

She comes across as an insecure interviewer, constantly talking over her guest and answering her own questions as if to make sure he and the audience understands that SHE KNOWS THINGS. Much better interviews out there if you’re interested in Schwartz’s amazing work with IFS.

The only issue I kind of have with IFS is that it feels like you're dropping into Lord of the Flies and managing things within the setup that some "wild" children set up. Patient discussion with them is a way out for sure, but some kind of parenting or directions has to accompany it because inner and outer children need boundaries. Sometimes boundaries are enough to quell an anxious mindset. IFS, to my observation, is a little too allowing of the kids to set the pace instead of letting an internal parent set the pace. I could be wrong about it... these are just my thoughts!

Alanis Morrisette talks too much here. STOP TALKING AND LISTEN and breath, please! I appreciate her spirit, but please just STOP putting too many words here (perhaps Alanis' protectors -- well, minimally its 'an indicator'). Too much, can barely hear Dick. And lose touch with myself. WAY TOO FAST, too many words -- a desperation to let him know that she is tracking this...etc.??? Too much. Really gets in the way. And perhaps this bothers (me) so much because I have the same tendencies....just too many words, and getting lost in her head! Trying to name it, figure it out, keeping it abstract....these ARE protectors (or in Hakomi therapy called 'indicators' - to get curious about.) But WOW. This laughing as she finishes his phrases, interrupts, need to repeat and go somewhere else to his point, to extend it....etc.). Not mindful, but thinking and so on. Notice the finishing his thoughts, interrupting, extending, etc. Pay attention to the breath.... Again, I do appreciate her spirit. however. Words, words, words.....anxiety. Mind. Mind. Mind. (I like mind and smart people. I spot how she is throwing the whole kitchen think and connect ALL things....). I suggest people look at Hakomi therapy...the Refined Hakomi method of Ron Kurtz, also. Alanis is always extending what Dick says verbally. I love her desire to understand and connect things, but there is just a lack of mindfulness here...that is an indicator. She rarely talks in the first person. An indicator -- to get 'just curious' about.....can you be in Self that much?

She does pose interesting questions and no doubt is an eloquent talker and avid student of all things personal development. I believe, that in this particular talk, she would just benefit herself and others much more for dropping half of the own talk, stop interrupting and truly listen more... But it’s just practice and self-awareness. Maybe it’s about time to have another interview with RS!! Go Alanis, would love to watch part 2!! 🙌🏻❤️🌷
