RS1 Colin Archer was built in 1893 as the prototype for the famous Norwegian rescue vessels. More than 30 boats were built for the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue. RS1 Colin Archer is proudly owned by the Norwegian Maritime Museum in Oslo, Norway.

Wow, emozionante. I tuoi gesti, il tuo modo di lavorare, mi fanno tornare bambino. Quando leggevo i libri coi pirati o quando guardavo i film con i bucanieri. Sono gesti di altri tempi. Spero un giorno di limitarti. .....

With a view to the title, Colin Archer is the boat, named after its Norwegian designer of the same name, not the boy in khaki shorts setting the sails.

Nice video. Learned a lot. It would be nice to see how you reef your main sail, as well as how you "scandalize" it.

Thank you for an insightful tour of the rig work. Never knew the peak halyard system is designed in two steps. Hope I didn't get that wrong. Is it to facilitate quick scandalizing of the sail and is the two-step hoist a safety feature so that even if the second step hoist fails and came crashing down, it is only the top part collapsing and the bottom first part firmly secured? I do wonder.
@eplevelsen
@eplevelsen 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joseph, IF the peak-halyardin-two-steps-system was used in the old days is uncertain, but anyhow; we have found it most useful. It has to be said at the same time that we use scandalizing A LOT in the daily maneuvering. For those who don't, this might be just another complicating detail. But for us, it is important that we find solutions to eliminate danger. We also use scandalizing when jibing in rough downwind to reduce stress on the rig when the gaff swings over. Especially when sailing with unexperienced crew, it is easy to ask them to scandalize. In this way, it is easy and safe to scandalize for everyone. The bottom first part is secured all the time, until the sail goes down after docking. Se also kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btlgZ7WBzsulmqc.html

Great video! Am I right in that all the sails are cotton?
@eplevelsen
@eplevelsen 3 жыл бұрын
The material is called "classic", looks like cotton. We need to use modern materials in ropes and sails to save money and keep easy handling. Easy changeable the day we need RS1 to be 100 % original

How to change the “tack” of the topsail?
@eplevelsen
@eplevelsen 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrian, Topsail stays on the port side on both tacks. We have to accept poor shape on the port tack, but that's how the Archer rig works!
