Hello im just starting to do EPP and i found your video very very helpful i would never thought of the 1 1/2 inch squares thats brilliant thank you for sharing and i also love your way of tacking the stitch so easy

Your hexagons make me think of those chocolate star shaped candy! The backs aren't seen after its backed and I'm tempted to think you may not even have to have a batting! Do you put batting before you back yours? They look beautiful to me! Unless someone is making fussy cuts / I think the way you do it is just fine! Lis

I use the squares. And honestly, it is a lot easier!! And no waste!! Why throw away the couple of yards or so of fabric because of clipping corners. Not to mention the mess. You have instant insulation, why toss it away! I'll be using squares forever, also. I've been sewing for a long time, and try to find shortcuts for doing things, even "breaking the 'rules'" now and then. I don't know why I didn't think of just using squares ages ago! Even cutting all of those paper hexagons may still have put me on the fence, till I got my ScanNCut for entirely different reasons☺️). I have my fabric squares cut from scraps, and my paper hexies, all ready to baste, arrange, and stitch together. Thanks for your videos, Julie. I enjoy your tips, and watch you work, and explain why & how you do what you do. I'm experimenting with different hexie arrangements, and having fun doing it!! Basting is so relaxing for me. So is putting some together to make a shape of them.

Good tips Julie. Another thing I've noticed is that if you do cut your fabric into shapes, they recommend a ¼ inch seem allowance, which doesn't allow for folding it over. Therefore the seam ends up too narrow to work with.

Just what i needed... i need some handwork other than knit and crochet... AND have TONS of 2.5" squares all cut... I was hoping to find someone using SQUARES to make the hexis.. TY..

Personally, I find it easier to baste when my fabric is hexagon shaped like the paper, easier to keep track of the edges for me (and cutting fabroc that way is fun!) :0c but I work with 1 inch hexies with more of a patchwork look (a lot of different patterns etc) so it's probably different if you're doing stuff thats much smaller and theres much more hexies you have to baste

That was quick! I've not done paper piecing , but I have cut hexagon pieces of fabric for a quilt top, it takes a while to cut those pieces, put them right sides together and piece 1 edge at a time, and keep the right scant quarter seam right! If I was paper piecing this flower garden it would sure be a whole lot quicker, I think just by watching you! Just have the shape to wrap the square around ! I'm gonna try paper piecing like you do it! Seems to turn out beautiful so why fidget around trying to do it like I do, it will fit together better too, probably! It don't seem to take any more fabric , and you are fast! Great video! Thank You! Lis

Glue the hexagon fabric and hexagon shape together, that way you don’t chase it. Works well for me. I’ll prep 2 to 3 hundred and start basting.

I quickly copied you Julie and covered my hexagons with squared material pieces……which isn’t as wasteful as cutting hexagon shapes or cutting the corners off,cos there are snippets of material to go to the rubbish ,but with squares there are no bits to throw away at all! Hope you are well and safe,are you affected by the floods?

I tried many times to cover hexi with hexi shape material and never does it work out. I always seem to have almost no material left when I get to the last side. I will keep doing square material coverings much faster to cut out and cover with.

Hi thank you for all your knowledge. I was wondering if after you remove all your templates and before you layer your quilt would you give the back a good press the back before you layer your quilt. To help keep your seams in place??
