i swear there must be a curse on all horse games, they all have a lot of potential but fail because the developers are always greedy 😆

the reign controls are SO BAD because my god is it impossible to jump. My horse will refuse a jump because it veered slightly off the path with just a slight twitch of your thumb.

Honesty, the second I got on the game I found out you can remove your clothes, so my character rides in a bra and short now, with some free socks from the pass (I didn’t pay for it)

ASTRIDE is definitely going to take away their fan base and it's only early access right now but looks 100% better and is offering so much more even lunging and seeing your horse roll in pasture. Like the design of the horses and it being an open world even 🥵 you can see the hair, the bumps on the muzzle etc. I always didn't like the design of ETG it's just way too flat and lacks any details. Such lack of details were once okay as it was every horse game but seeing Rising Stars and HorseReality how detailed their horses are it's just not up to standards anymore.

i liked this game at first, but the more demand that came with it, the worse it got. the team went in over their heads and ended up rushing everything. its really unfortunately because this game couldve been so good. i feel like even if they add breeding, there would be no point as youre still doing the same thing over and over again. this game should not have been in soft launch so early, nor should it have been released. the team couldve simply ignored the demand for the game so early and continued perfecting it with exclusive beta testers.

I would gladly watch a limited amount of ads for more coins and carrots, OR grind for more outfits and tack, like how Wildshade rewards you with tack for beings 1st, 2nd, or 3rd on the leaderboards.

Oh my gosh finally I’ve met people with the same thoughts as mine! I wanted to love this game. But it’s so boring. Everything nice cost a hell of a ton of money. I play it once a week or so because of how repetitive the gameplay/competitions are. We aren’t able to create bonds with the horses and it’s boring. It acts as if our horses are just machines that we train and compete with. Edit: also, the music pisses me off. It’s the same music 24/7 and it makes me wanna rip my hair out

I had this game for two days and was so hyped but everything I was hoping for, wasn't there. The one thing which I was excited about the most was the individualism. That I can create a very unique horse even with personality and have a ranch in my kind of style. But than I saw that I can only customize my first horse and can't change anything about my ranch and it is more or less just another "ranch building game" in which you have to upgrade buildings and tip on them to collect something. Probably would have tried it longer nontheless but it didn't run smoothly on my smartphone.

Another thing I noticed: energy really doesn't matter. My farm makes sk many carrots, I have 1500+ at the moment without ever buying any.

I went on their Instagram and begged them to fix the controls. and some ETG fan came after me saying they r fine and that i need more practice... LIKE REALLY?????? Thank you for making this video. I'm in America and when the game finally launched, i was really disappointed. this game has also been in development hell for years.

y'know this is kinda funny looking back at that one time the social media team for Equestrian the game was shading Star Stable around the time the Jorvik fresians are released for not listening to the players I mention this to seeing complaints about the controls and such since before the official release this is just, so incredibly funny to me.

Im honesty just using ETG as a crutch until Astride reaches launch

This game was marketed as “for equestrians, by equestrians” and here I am (an equestrian), giving my honest review. The graphics are cheap. I know it’s a mobile game and so we shouldn’t expect PC quality. BUT, look at other mobile horse games. They have better graphics. I know it costs devs more, but no one will play or want to spend money on a game will bad graphics. That’s where the realism aspect is lost for me. Yes, they are horses, but there is barely any muscle definition, tone, even markings are soft and look lazy. Next, the whole upgrading buildings aspect just reminds me of everything I hated already of mobile farming games. I want to play an equestrian game, not a tycoon building game. I wish the devs pushed to make this a PC game. It has potential with a crew of real equestrians developing it, but unfortunately I think it missed the mark. I’d rather spend $40 to play a PC version then constantly hit a wall where I feel like I have to purchase coins to make the game enjoyable. There is no care aspect, no leading the horse, no pastures, and the worlds are choppy and unrealistic. This is a horse game - yes. But a horse game for equestrians? I’d have to pass. Waited 3-4 years and I still don’t think it should’ve been launched yet.

I was enjoying it up until today, when I discovered that the horse I paid to create was an unlucky rng roll and had low stats, despite having everything levelled to 10. This is my second - my first was 720, the second 670. I think that’s too wide a range when parting with real money. I don’t want to gamble. I’d prefer a fixed stat for customs. I like to see what I’m buying!

For the economy of the game I suggest everything purchasable with in came cash, and using the coins as a speed up button. Speed up training all ready exists, why not just make upgrading buildings take some time to create and use coins to boost time like all other mobile games? And if someone doesn't have enough in game cash, they can pay with a few coins. ETG is making this so hard for no reason other than to frustrate players.

I would like to add that I do not remember these being in the office earlier this year? But I could have missed it. 1) Yes, I did play this game on mobile and came across the same issues. 2) I wanted to like this game, but due to the predatory prices, I found myself beyond disappointed. I don't want this to become the norm,. Although I am very harsh on this game, I do understand that some people will love it. And please continue to do so! This is my experience, and I personally did not like it. If you enjoy these features, then have at it.

I 100% agree with this video. It's insane how much money you have to spend! I refuse to pay those prices! I do think the game is OK but it gets boring and repetitive quick. I WOULD DEFINITELY say that SSO is better as in keeping you interested..but maybe it was because I was younger but I was able to be kept interested in SSO in 4+ years. I do hope they fix their problems soon.

I wish there were more GOOD games that had more disciplines other than SJ/Dressage. I want reining, harness racing, or even driving!

I really wanted to like this game, but when I saw the fact that a season pass is 129 coins (btw it was 100 or 110 before the global launch.....) and the premium currency packs are only 120 or 250, basically the same annoying tactic used by every greedy developper, I was super pissed! and they make the character base clothes as ugly as possible to push as many players as they can to buy some premium currency to at least have a "neutral" look for the rider... It's not pay to win but the greediness they're showing is really off-putting.... also I don't know why, but the horse animation "stutters" a lot, it's annoying considering the game has been up for quite some time already before the global launch..

Quotes I recall when looking at games: "Engineer the problem, sell the solution." "'It has potential' is a fancy way of saying 'it's not in the game.'" I was pleased that they give us a way to ride our horses a lot (Carrots) and we can earn those every day for free. Most games make us pay for that. So they get a point there at least (I'm looking at you Horse Haven.) I can ride my horse just about as much as I want. I don't like that the jumping system is dependent on a meter and not the actual distance to the jump that you are. So you always have to look at and for the meter. No level of skill here, just reaction time. The controls are wonky. I get that they're supposed to be like riding a real horse, but... uh... I don't ride a horse with my left thumb. I can also feel when that little booger is about to go to space or sit down. There's 0 (NONE) no indication of when my horse is going to be a pill here and since we can't feel it in any way/shape/form we need some kind of visual indicator or sound or *something*. (My horse Bucket never stops speeding up and I don't think there is a sweet spot to hold him at speed) Also WTF is my "PatPatDon'tBeScared" button on the left side of my screen? Why do I have to drop the reins to calm my horse? You don't do that IRL. You just don't. Take your selective Realism and cram it up your Butt, Game. I don't care (too much) that they make me pay for vanity. They uglified me but that's okay I think. (It's underhanded you can't buy any for cash though, only gold coins.) And none of it has stats on it, thank the whoever for that one. I hate stats on tack and clothes. What really grinds my gears is that they have all this personalization in the game and it's treated like an investment system. Like you stated, your starter horse is Trash and until you find that perfect horse? They're all pretty much trash. Only thing I have not figured out yet is if horses you buy with real money scale to the potential levels of your current ability to purchase off the market or if they're all as bad as your starter and it's just a fraud. The game is pretty but I really don't see myself putting a lot of effort into it. They missed a huge opportunity when they made horses so incredibly disposable and their personality boils down to "Do they stay at the pace I ask for". The speed-up, slow-down bit requires *a lot* of precision and doesn't always pick up because... Game.... slow.... can't.... There really aren't enough visual ques. You can't learn the system, you have to wait for bars and meters to show up and react to them. (Spend more time looking at my meters than what I'm actually doing.) You can't train our or in bad or good personality traits. I don't see this game going many places or lasting a long time. But I'll play it for what it's worth.

ive always disliked how dead horses feel in horse games.. they cannot think for themselves and any actions of the horse are solely based on the players commands.. I mean we can command our horses to gallop into trees for heavens sake! why doesn't the horse have the ability to make decisions for itself? why cannot it not decide we are about to slam into a tree and decide to stop or turn left or right? the horses in games are just dead zombie horses with no personality nor conscience. also every horse in horse games responds exactly the same way to the players commands, there's no individuality or real value to the horse other then its physical attributes. Nobody truly gets attached to these horses for their mental attributes because they are brain dead copies that respond exactly the same way every time.. perhaps my expectations are too high for horse games but is not the point of a horse game to feel like the horses are actually living breathing creatures that are not dependent on us for decision making? sigh..

This game is a GIANT dissapointment and cash grab. This game was extremely hyped up, everyone was so SO excited to play a game that actually looked cool for a mobile game. And then they launched into different countries.. but when not everyone could play, they introduced season passes, that had tack A LOT of people wanted. But we're now on Season 4, with some fairly crappy stuff. The mechanics are SO broken. The micro-transactions are they ONLY way to keep moving forward in this game. It's ridiculous that this company thinks that just because the Horse/Equestrian community is desperate for good horse games, will willingly and happily hand over who knows how much money

This game was SO overhyped. It looked so much more beautiful at first and they really said "this is gonna be the most realistic, fun, amazing equine game for mobile". Nope, wrong. It's lowkey awful on multiple levels

Been playing on and off as something to do while listening to podcasts/watching movies since the australian release (not from there, but workarounds, yanno), and even back then we were complaining about tack/clothes/everything visual being inaccessable and overpriced. I've gotten the two latter passes because i wanted to give it a fair shot, but I'm not spending anything else unless something seriously changes and we actually CAN earn things through gameplay. The gameplay itself? buggy, too simplified while too finicky at the same time, extremely repetetive and with absolutely no strategizing involved. It's a "get good horse, train up, turn fast run fast brrr" without the spice of either step. Personalities for the horses are extremely underplayed, you won't notice if a horse is a good sport or super spooky when competing, and what they tried to do with the tempraments really doesn't work for anyone. A hot horse will speed upp over the jump (past where you actually can hold it back) and knock down poles in a frustrating way, cold horses will fall over to trot over jumps even after you've confirmed a green jump and perfectly balanced horses do exactly as expected. Between jumps they all feel essentially the same and getting anything but balanced horses has no advantages, ever. Brave or any other modifying personality being 1-4 points doesn't help either, as you barely notice a difference between 0 and 20, which makes the feed useless as well. Handling as you said, is horrendus. Sipleish mechanics can work wonderfully, if they just work. "is it the game, me or the horse?" The horses are supposed to have personalities, but they feel so cookiecutter most of the time that i just have to conclude it's the game or me, and most of the time, it isn't me and that isn't fun. Or fair. Fun thing to notice, you could cusomize size and personalities for your first horses in beta/earlier releases, now that's just if you pay to customize one. Those horses' potential is also limited by your current trailer level, which i think they could have been a little more clear on in the cash shop, since it costs the same for a horse with 300 potential vs 600-700. -how chunky or not they look isn't something we've got to play around with though. Training is if anything more repetetive than competing, or something you just skip over 90% of the time until you get your engame horses, which you train afk until they're up to potential. You can't change or influence anything but how high the numbers go, and they often don't really matter. a 15hh horse will lose everytime to a 17hh with the exact same strenght and jump, for some reason larger horses can just do the same jumps faster than smaller ones without knocking poles. No skill or personality involved. Competing itself isn't really fun either, each horse, no matter the potential will have to go through tiers 5 and onwards at the exact same and equally slow pace to unlock their potential competing tiers. Fun once? not really. Fun 16 times or more? No????. Let it scale at least a little bit and find other ways to make things take a little while. Now to new seasons (wow new competitions yay!!!) I find them incredibly frustrating if anything. You can't play past seasons' competitions after they're over and there are no standard races; this'll just make the selection a little smaller than if other season competitions were left in, no? No. You have to replay from tier 5 on each one. Sure they want us to try all the competitions because they're cool and all, that's understandable, but having to do the tier 5-1 competitions in both horse, pony and breed specific categories each time isn't fun, or a way to make people play through it more. At least just make us have to do it one on of the categories per season, or straight up unlock them if you unlocked those levels on pervious series. Players are curious, and will most likely take a look at those later anyways. OK finally done. Trying to criticise the game in the discord is met with so many defences I'm pent up from people not listening and or giving criticism or even just ideas a fair shot. It's a pretty game with pretty horses and not much else. I'll revisit it once in a while, just in case but i don't think it's getting better since it was predatory from the start. If you enjoy the game please do enjoy it, I've just seen this type of hype turn sour incredibly fast many times before. I don't want the people who were the excited and engaged used for the money + publicity and then thrown away the second they ask a question like in sso.

You missed something: At the end of every tier, there is a "qualifier". Those are the only races where you can compete against other players (through indirectly) in the leaderboard. However, when you bring a more experienced horse to compete in the lower tiers (when the seasons change, for example), they won't be qualified to be included in the leaderboard, they will only be included in the leaderboard of their respective tier. This makes sense, right? It let's inexperienced horses have the same oppourtunities than their peers. Wrong. You can just buy an already trained horse from a level 10 trailer and have it compete in tier 1. What this incentivates it's NOT training nor continuing riding your older horses but instead buying horses in masses to have a chance at the leaderboard. I was very frustated when my lifelong friend Jean, a horse that I trained into tier 1 for weeks on end, was pretty much wasting his time competing on those lower races just for the sake of unlocking "boxes".

(Personal opinion) We shall not mention the starter shirt 🤧Thank god I fixed it by attending the event enough to get another shirt (which was pale, thank god) after that, never touched the event again. Personally I like the pastel colors and them not being too bright. This however has nothing to do with my gender, instead I think it's because bright colors annoy my eyes as I've heard that light colored eyes are more sensitive to light (me). I however mostly fix this with night mode which makes the screen more orange. I never bought new horses. I just logged everyday to save up and leveled my market to max before getting more horses :'D I also train my horses only in training hall and come back to set them back to training, I don't train them myself as I don't really enjoy it. I'd probably enjoy it more if it were on PC or if I could move the camera freely (which won't be possible as it is on mobile and you need both hands just to ride). I however hope that this game will become enjoyable for most people, even if it can't satisfy everyone.

Can we also talk about how they promised us 50 coins when the game launches globally but haven’t given anyone their coins and won’t answer questions about it? At first they just said “they are on their way” but now it’s just silence. I had such high hopes for this game and it just keeps disappointing me every day😔

before the game launched globally, when it first dropped in NZ, i went ahead and downloaded the game. coin prices were like $6.99 for 120 of them. now that i play on a globally launched version its $18.99 for 120 coins…. such a weird and greedy price jump.

Another issue is that the horses arent THAT different. With the breeding I like that if you breed a Friesian with a swb you get a bulkier swb. That’s very nice, but the body types are very limited, the coat colors are nice, but there are little to no details. You can have face markings, but no speckles on the horses body or anything like that.

I want to add something: If you say their prices for coins are too high, they, as well as the obsessed kids, will use the excuse "you don't have to pay, you can get coins from daily rewards!" I played the game every day for 3 weeks straight and got coins from the daily rewards ONCE. And I didnt get a lot either, I got like 3 coins from daily rewards in those 3 weeks. So no, you can't really get coins, clothes or tack without spending real money

I was honestly so excited for this game and apart from the cost enjoyed it for a couple of weeks but I am so bored of it within a few weeks, it’s the same old same old, and some of its good it’s pretty realistic and stuff Every time I tried to go on a hack my (new and updated )iPad crashed...

I'm glad I was like I'm just going to see trough that first ugly outfit and not pay anything. At some point because of competing (not the season pass competition, I won't buy that either) I got a free beige shirt and now it looks decent. So far the game is alright to play, I do like that the riding is challenging, you really need to get used to it at first. The game is indeed pretty, I got the friesian and it looks gorgeous, beautiful animations too! But the stable on the other hand looks really boring on the inside and you can only feed your horse, no other interaction. I'm also still waiting for dressage. In general I'd rate this game a 5,5/10 right now, it's just not really exciting yet.

I started playing and I struggled so bad to reach tier 3. Then, I realized every competition is the same between Horse, Pony and Breeder. I was again disappointed. I played only to get every building level 10, because I am obsessed with round numbers and it fooled me to think I had a purpose to play this game. But now, I am just bored to play. Not to mention, I had unlock all competitions during Kyoto season, but now I have to unlock again every single one of them in EVERY competitions, Horse, Pony, Breeder. Also, I kind of wanna complain on how I keep having really bad horses in my market even though I updated it to level 10. It is of no meaning for me to buy a horse with a potential lower than 680, yet I still get horses that have only a 300 potential. I am kind of sick of this part and the money part, obviously. But one thing I love : the mechanism of the jumps, and how you come on one properly. I feel that this is so realistic and nice to be able to think your jumps and not only the way to go towards it. It is true that you have to keep your horse slower when you jump a vertical jump, and you need to go a little faster to jump an oxer. I find it nice and realistic ! But it’s broken, and sometimes I knock down the poles for no reason, when it’s not as bad as just failing the jump.

I wanted to add to my previous comment, it feels like the controls really punish and hold back skilled players, as I find I am genuinely able to play on PC. This game would've done way better and is more deserving of a PC launch. I'm glad to see fans of this game are able to actually give good criticism instead of being blinded by their desire to play horse games. I understand there is a lack of good horse games on the market, this is probably one of the better ones, but still, it has so many issues and I just hope the dev team is able to put in more work to help bring out the potential this game has.

I played this game for a while but it was so laggy on my phone that I put it down for good and not returning until I get some new device (not in the near future). My only complaint was that it doesn't "allow" the player to form any connection with the horse. I didn't feel my horse particularly "mine". I didn't find the gameplay boring. I found it relaxing and the colours calming. Some elements make the game look cheap, the music is downright terrible, the sound effects are hateful (sorry). I personally don't mind the overpriced cosmetics, if the game would be THAT good I'd definitely sink some money into it. I don't think they were "hiding" behind soft launch. From the look of it, this game needed much-much more time to be interesting then the amount of time actually spent on it.

But yeah let me tell you i installed this game since i got a new phone and i had enough space but it didn't even last a day on it, i got bored pretty quickly and that's not just because for the hell of it, no way, but because there's literally so much it's missing. Yeah to put it short; it feels incomplete. It doesn't have a proper content that's gonna keep me into the game for a long run. Same happened with SSO lol

Thannk you for this video! it may not be a popular opinion but as someone who watched for over a year get hyped and developed to open it up and immediately be disappointed, for all the same exact reasons you spoke! not to mention the "help" is not helpful! when you are training your horse on your own and you have the walk jump canter and so on, it doesnt tell you what youre actually training! it took me ages to figure out how to train strength just to find out it was pointless and i basically have to use the training building, for it to only fail half the time even when it says i have 100% success rate?! Nothing actually matters at all... its frustrating and it sucks because you can see the potential and all that hype just wasted..

I was very hyped for this game too and honestly it was very fun! For like 2 weeks.. I was excited for a horse game that strays away from the other horse mobile games, where you just breed horses and that's it. I also saw how ambitions the devs were about making a more realistic game so that made me even more hyped. The graphics are actually quite nice, as long as we don't look at our characters. But then again we're only really seeing the character from the back so it's acceptable. I feel like this is the only game where the horses genuently feel alive. They clearly put a lot of thought and effort into them and I love it. The personalities made them even more interesting and unique as when I got a new horse I had to learn how to control it. I also enjoyed horse creation, I liked how I could go with any option that I would like and it made me get attached to my horse fast. The controls were awful when I played for the first time. But after two weeks, they were only slightly less awful! My main problem was that my phone often didnt recognize me swiping up and I'd miss the jumps, but this was somewhat solved by raising my horse's stats. As for gameplay, although I did enjoy racing and riding around in the open world, doing training quests, that's about it. There's nothing else to do in the game. Though the game only just released so I'm sure they'll add more to do in the future, but for now it can get boring fast. As for microtransactions, I was shocked when I saw the prices, plus the fact that there's no real way to earn gold in game (other than getting real lucky with a daily login).I actually didn't find the boxes a problem in the game. At first I was a little stuck at what I should be upgrading, but then I got the hang of it. I focused on upgrading the trailer, so better horses become available and the house so it will generate more money. But what I did have problems with is figuring out stuff. What do the traits mean exactly? Why wont my horse jump? Why won't my horse tier up? ect. Some things I was able to figure out by just pkaying, but some things I still have no idea about. The tutorial only shows you the bare minimum.

I actually brought up some of these issues within the feedback channel in the Discord but was unfortunately reprimanded as they claimed I was getting "heated." I really hope your video brings to light some of the issues this game has. At the moment, I use Bluestacks to help aid with the horrible controls.

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one thinking this! I was shocked when I saw the prices to buy their E-coin, I was like "Damn, it's like they don't want people to buy it, no sane person would spend that amount of real money on in-game currency which gets them maybe two saddle-pads." Considering it is in it's very early stage, I can give it some slack, but again, it's in it's early stage, this is no time to be extorting money from their players!

Seeing that red shirt at the start of the game gives me SSO starter outfit nightmares! I honestly thought they were going to have items you could earn and then buy other outfits if you wanted to. A lack of any in game earnings mean I will never even bother to try the game.

To me this game sounds like a light version of a Gacha game. They tend to have insanely priced micro transactions, are incredibly grindy, and time consumptive. They only care about extracting as much money as possible from players. Often time big spenders have a significant advantage over non spenders. And by big spenders I mean people who will spend 10’s to 100’s of thousands of dollars to advance themselves. I don’t think this game is as extreme as that, but it is certainly taking pointers from the “gacha game” developers play book. And that’s just sleezy….

Just wanna tell you that I really enjoy your voice, as well as your analyzing perspectives, how calm and reasonable you are, and overall your videos are making me feel invested, giving me a good insight, and they are very interesting 😊

I have made a discovery! I was playing Equestrian the Wait and you have to get your horse used to certain things! I was in Mediterranean, and there was a small courtyard with cones and water. At first, my Frisian Freja’s fear went to the highest immediately, but after a few seconds of calming her down, she went over with a walk. I tried it out on another section, and it worked. I think that the team needs to get over the starting bump, and after that they could make it the best horse game for mobile users!

23:56 If you have a higher tier horse, you can unlock higher tier levels of training walk, trot, canter, speed and jump. For example, I have a TB mare that I can train advanced jumping with if I do it manually. It allows me to jump over 6, 7 and 8 jumps in a row. I can train novice tier walk, trot, canter and jump with all the horses I own. Novice tier for walk, trot and canter includes one where you do the extended walk, trot, canter for 15 seconds, then two segments of collected walk, trot, canter, each for 15 seconds. So it does vary

Basically what you mean is forget this money hungry, frustrating, boring mobile game and try Skyrim because it's ace, you will have alot more fun and it even has horses in it. 😉 On a more serious note I tried this game a while back and felt the exact same way as you so glad I'm not the only one because I wanted to love it so much.

I absolutely agree with this assessment of the game. I had high hopes but it was a huge let down. Luckily there is still Astride and Tales of Reign Ravine! Tale of Reign Ravine already has a demo which is really good!

tbf i thought i was being picky/petty but i legit uninstalled it the same day i installed it LMAO.. the gameplay just felt so boring and stagnant to me.. i can't describe it but it has the same vibes as those horse DS games where u just compete and buy things.. but at least the DS games didn't have microtransactions lmfao

i’ve been playing for a little over a month on mobile, and my competition button on the bottom left of my screen is gone. i can only ride in the meadows and practice pens but i can’t compete anymore why? do i have to pay to be able to actually play the other half of the game?

As a colourblind clown, I would like to raise awareness about something that pisses me off in games with character creators: the damned colour presets are almost never labeled. The same is true of many cosmetic options in games. It’s probably not hard, I’ve seen mods that add more substantial changes to UI. I know why we don’t have mods for this: achromatopsia is like the shiny Pokémon of colour blindness. Hell, you could go the Star Trek Online route and label it based on the goddamn ratios of red green and blue and I can figure it out from there.

I totally agree. ETG is a great game that is one of my favourites and the animations are good but it's gets repetitive and I feel like locking the clothing and horse equipment behind closed doors until you buy gold is quite nasty as a clothing style is a huge way for people to express themselves, red and blue aren't the colours everybody uses to express themselves. And gold is a huge part of this game that is not accessible and I wouldn't be surprised if you had to pay gold to breed you already owned horses together

Gave up on ETG the moment they started doing a soft launch *and* included seasons for exclusive content at the same time. aaaaaand again it falls into the exact same loop as most other horse games in that theres.... nothing.... really to do. I don't think I've honestly seen such extreme microtransactions before, and I've played a fair few triple A games that are notorious for this. Every time, they have some sort of system to earn them in-game (with loyalty points, objectives, in-game currency etc.) but that progress is slow, expensive or limited to only a few "cash shop" items. Like yay I can do jumping competitions with fiddly as fu*k and temperamental controls (who thought the reins thing was a good idea? my thumb covers it up so I can't actually SEE if I'm pulling/giving etc.) and watch timers go down when I upgrade my ranch and train my horse! Aside from riding around in some big areas (and doing more button-mashing training) theres... not much else. Played it for a bit then haven't been on it since. Even something so simple as howrse is more interesting. I think they fell victim to feature creep, over-popularity and being in over their head. I took a look at the co-founder on linked-in. Aside from a brief ~6 month stint in a small company, she is fresh out of university. I imagine most of the others on their team are the same.

I like etg bc its not pay to win at all. Theres zero pressure to buy anything because any tack wont make an actual difference. Having a fancy saddle doesnt boost your horses stats or gets you a better placing in competition. Its makes you look pretty which is exclusively your own thing to enjoy bc its a single player. Bc it doesnt have a plot to follow either i can just chill and do my own thing, following my own goals (especially breeding wise). Very thankful for that.

I’m so happy it’s not laggy, and I don’t what people are complaining about! The controls aren’t even that hard. The only thing I hate is how grindy it is, the actual fun part comes when all your buildings are maxed and you can buy and breed horses.

Like what you said about the horse personalities. Zelda added horse personalities and stats. It felt pretty balanced and realistic, ex: the faster your horse the weaker it is (race horses are light and more fragile), etc. The personalities in the game weren't as complex as equestrian COULD have been. But they were a nice little detail, despite one of my horses being so bad at everything I loved it so much for the little details and other small content for horses. The fact that "building a bond" with a horse is a thing is a fat missed opportunity to add personalities. Basically making them mini virtual pets.

I'm also from South Africa and when the video showed the amount it costs to buy some in game coins shocked me. R1K can buy you your groceries for the week and the game isn't even finished yet. That's pushing some luck

Thank god for making this video, this is EXACTLY what my issue is with this game.

i literally can't get the game to work on my phone (game opens to a black screen then immediately closes, probably due to my phone being outdated), or bluestacks (game worked fine for a little bit but i've been softlocked in the set saving portion of the tutorial. i literally cannot progress because i can't click the save button as the game doesn't recognize that i've typed in the box). it's very irritating.

They would make more money if stuff was cheaper 💀. Cause you would have more people wanting to buy stuff

Excellent video, thankyou! I`ve been following the developement of this game for a few years now, + was really looking forward to it coming out, but, sadly, it`s pretty much been a let down. The horses are lovely looking, + i actually don`t mind the pasel shades, but i`m not paying out all that money for it. It`s never ending. I get that they need to make an income from it, but it`s rediculous. Can`t get to grips with the controls, + tbh, it`s slow on my phone anyway. Uninstalled it after less than a week.

I stopped playing, because you couldn't get a swedish warmblood with a long mane anymore... I rlly liked how the horses looked with the long mane. Unfortunately the dev team only made it possible to get that horse breed with the long mane by crossing breeds.

Great video! Overall, I'm a bit more positive about the game but I definitely agree with some things you said. 1. Jumps are definitely bugged right now. I believe I usually have that problem with horse not reacting to jump cue when I'm readjusting the position right before jumping. It's like reins got stuck in "go left/right" mode or something. Needs more testing. Also, I heard from many people that giving cue at the right time used to matter so probably the devs have some bugs to fix. Other than that I'm geniunely happy with the controls! 2. Personality/stats are good "on paper" but are definitely lacking and I wish they made more sense. So far I think only Cranky makes more difference since my cranky mare is the only one that acts up even though she has high mentality. I love that but as you said, I can't see any difference with other personality traits. I'm also very confused about self accelerating - it happens with horses that don't have any traits that would (logically) cause it. 3. Boxes and training/grinding. I guess this is where I dissagree the most. I'm fine with "boxes", at least to some extent. I'm actually one of those weirdos that like mobile games to be mobile games, so something I open up for fifteen minutes, set up a few things and then forget about it for eight hours (I'd also love to have some "farm/estate management" elements in this game, sorry not sorry!). Not to say of course, that those "boxes" couldn't be better, I totally agree with you that right now they're here just to slow the player down. But if we had, for example, better options to earn money (idk, let me train other people's cranky horses or something!) I don't think I'd mind having to upgrade a few buildings at all. I actually find that repetitive training fun and relaxing. Of course, again, that doesn't mean that it couldn't be improved. Personality affecting training more would be great, I'd even add something like "current mood". With more competitions that training could be more personalised. Also, I don't understand why I can't train turnability and stamina manually? I know they had this option. Unless it's locked behind horse tier or something? I think it all boils down to the game being empty. It was overhyped, promised a lot, but didn't deliver. Hopefully "yet". 4. 100% agree with your criticism of the competitions. Why, WHY make them all the same? I guess the Breeders Cup courses are easier, but aside from that what's exectly the point of having them? Maybe with breeding they could add some breed clubs with separate leaderboeards and perks but I don't think they're planning anything like that. 5. I'm ok-ish with their microtransactions. Definitely overpriced (I had a heart attack when I saw the prices, Jesus...). But I'm glad that they didn't slap some insane stats on their tack and made their horses unrideable without it. No dev team, I'm not giving you ideas. I am however disapointed that they locked most seasonal tack behind the pass. Allowing players to grind for some cute items would be a good compromise, I think. As I said, I actually like the game, they even got some of my "gamer money" that usually goes to SSO. It's not a masterpiece but it's "good enough". It looks like they are a small team that has some cool ideas but bit more than they could chew. I'll see what will happen in the next few months. Cheers!

Tbh i hate how this game looks, the colors are awful and the horses are just too smooth (their coats, muscles, etc) with lifeless eyes. I appreciate the hard work of the artists but i guess it just isn’t for me. The game also almost broke my ipad it was lagging so much lmao

Star Stable in kind of like this as well they give you in game currency but the they have start coins, you start out with a starter horse, shillings, and maybe a few star coins. Once we reach a certain level we can’t do anything without star rider, and that is expensive and most people buy full time star rider. Then they do all the updates on the horses in hopes that you buy star coins.

It is possible to save up, but it took me weeks just to get 1 clothing item. Pretty sad, but the money is ok, you can get it from training, selling and daily so you can really choose your path. But the in game currency is only for buying horses. Which have ugly tack. Which you want to buy pretty tack for. You could save up for months, or buy it with real money. Really sad

big ol agree. I really love the visuals of this game, animations are absolutely stunning, horse and player customization is great, worlds look really nice, but the gameplay is so limited and the fact that ANY clothes or tack cost real money is ridiculous. I’m sure they could still make a decent amount of money from sponsors by allowing you watch ads for gold coins, or they could allow some of the cosmetics to be bought with the free dollars currency. Plus they’d seem somewhat respectable, so people would be more inclined to maybe buy some premium currency - not out necessity but for some convenience and to support a more honest game company. Most mobile games, while still having egregious microtransactions, allow the player to buy some cosmetics without the premium currency. I don’t mind if they decide to make some items gold coins exclusive, just let free players wear something other than that obnoxious blue and red. also 33:58 turi ip ip………….
