Equipment Review: Remanufactured Amia Chair (Crandall Office Furniture)

This is a review of the office chair I purchased shortly after working form home in 2020. My 22 year old Steelcase chair is still comfortable for short sessions, but isn't comfortable after sitting for more than an hour or two.
I loved the quality of my old chair, but didn't want to pay retail (~$750) to replace it.
I found Crandall Office Furniture (www.crandalloffice.com/) after hunting around the internet for a great price on a Steelcase Chair.
Crandall remanufactures chairs (revitalized foam, new upholstery, etc).
I chose a "Showroom Special" remanufactured Amia chair. Prices on these chairs were further reduced because Crandall made them to show off their ability to use add custom upholstery.
The extra discount on the showroom special meant that I paid just about half what a new Amia chair would have cost from Steelcase. I would have still saved over $300 with just the "normal" remanufactured Amia.

This chair has significantly more adjustments than my old Steelcase:
- Height adjustment
- Tilt for the back rest (with adjustable tension)
- Lock for the back rest
- Adjustable sliding seat pan (this was a must for me)
- Adjustable Lumbar (which I forgot to mention in the video)
- Adjustable arm rests
It came in less than a week (at the beginning of the lock down for the pandemic). Condition / quality was great and assembly was extremely easy (just had to install the back rest with 4 bolts).
This chair is comfortable for long sitting times (I'm typically working 6 - 10 hours a day at home). I don't think the quality of a new chair would be any different than this remanufactured one.
Note: This is my honest review of my Amia chair which I purchased with my own money after doing significant research on office chairs. My review has not been edited from anyone at Crandall. However, I am receiving an Amazon gift card from Crandall in exchange for creating this video (an offer that was made more than a month after my purchase).

Any issues with the seat base being higher on one side? My brand new Amia was higher on the left side and had to return it.

I'm planning on ordering this chair as well, but I'm not sure if I should add the extra 1/2 inch foam seat padding option though, would you recommend it?

I didn't add the extra foam. I'm not sure it's necessary. My old Steelcase that's from 1998 is still comfortable from the cushion standpoint. That said, my experience with these chairs is that they last a long time. So, I doubt that it's bad to add extra padding. Just not strictly necessary IMO.

@@phoenixbluex I like it so far. It doesn't seem to be bottoming out. Really good chair. The only thing that I wished it had was a little more lumbar support, but other than that it's really comfortable. Way better than my previous office chair.

May I ask how much you pay for the Amia chair?

I don't remember off the top of my head. Around $375 per the video. There was a special on when I bought it and I don't know if that's still available. A link to the current price is in the description (along with the link I had for the special they were running).

Yes. I still use this chair in my home office. Same as when I got it. I think that's the advantage of these chairs. My last Steelcase was used for ~ 15 years before it had problems.

Still working great. Would buy it again... Or maybe upgrade to a Leap (which is what i have in my office at work). Steelcase chairs are good long term purchases IMO.

@@mikeschertzer941 Good to hear it. Am thinking of purchasing the Amia from Crandall myself. Heard the leap gives some people tailbone pain(not for me). Thank you!

@@alexjune6414 I think it's a good chair. And my old Steelcase lasted for a long time. I witch this one still too. And the remanufactured ones seemed like a good value decision to me.

@@mikeschertzer941 you can take your amia seat pan and put it on the leapv2 if your really wanted to. It's called a Lamia.

Steelcase is just as bad as apple with extreme price gouging

That's why I went with a refurbished one. My previous Steelcase was good for more than 20 years. Wanted the same quality, but didn't want the "new" price tag. The remanufactured version seemed like a good compromise. But everyone defines value differently.
