Stealth is not only radar avoidance. That is much talked about in media because it is visible and some cool pics of planes make the article look interesting. A big developmental leap in 5th gen fighters is in the field of network centric warfare , sensors, loyal wingman systems which would keep the manned fighter away from harm's way . The new 5th gen fighters are highly modular and would be able to integrate the upcoming technologies. Stealth airframe is another layer of protection which would increase the aircrafts survivability against older ground based radars which are still very effective in shooting down aircrafts and cannot be ignored.

Here people are commenting Stealth is everything then why usa have largest fleet of F16, F 15 ex, F18 super hornet. I never say that stealth is waste but stealth platform didn't have much hardpoints and fitting missiles on external hardpoints make them non stealthy and operation cost of stealth make them inviable to use in large numbers

Stealth platform are only good when they can intercept enemy but enemy can't detect them due to stealth but when enemy use countermeasures and use chaffs and anyhow survive than in relatively close range they can't survive against much agile aircraft like Rafale and Su 30s which can outperform them

This awacs problem IS EXACTLY why China built 5th Gen focused towards awacs, their 5th Gen has much more range albeit being inferior in payload or thrust output. They knew the ACTUAL work of 5th gens i.e. to neutralize as many awacs possible, instead of fighting other 5th gens.

It has been demonstrated that if the Russians can shoot down highly stealthy, small and low-flying Scalp/Storm Shadow missiles with the Pansir system, then taking down larger airplanes should not be a problem. As evidenced by Yugoslavia's success in shooting down an American stealth bomber in 1999.

tracking stealth bombers will be difficult since they can't be detected like fighter, so stealth can still be useful, can stealth UAV be a thing

We can mount radars on a drone like system like cats system and use it like an awacs where it is followed by fighter jets who can use the radar info to be aware of the airspace.. would be very cheap as compared to awacs platform

I personally don't think 5th or 6th gen stealth tech will be outdated THAT FAST by Network warfare cause keep it mind whatever the 4++ gen fighter can do with network centric warfare , the stealth fighter can do it better with better onboard processing power along with having Stealth protection in highly Contested airspace. IRST sensor ho ya Advanced Radar system, M sure ki Aaj ke time pe bhi 5th gen stealth fighter ko detect karna from a distance has been achieved BUT TO HAVE A STRONG CONTINUOUS DETECTION TO LAUNCH A WEAPON SOLUTION ON IT AND THEN GUIDE THE MISSILE PROPER TO THE TARGET Will not be easy even in near future. Until Advanced Onboard Seeker on missiles becomes self sufficient to actually Think , preserve its energy, Twist n Turn, have Loitering ability to give better chance of Aquire & Re Aquire an evading 5th gen fighter without loosing lock during pitbull phase (Meteor does it to some extent at the moment but still not perfect) , Target ko hit karna won't be that easy. So until missile tech improves sufficiently to hit a stealth target inteligently , I feel Strealth tech will remain relevant on Fighter jets and Bombers.

Indian defense lack innovation and originality. They still think of developing replica of existing weapons instead of making something different and better even by using existing ideas. Size of the fighter jet should not be a problem for stealth today, chinese understand that well. Indian should build there own modern flanker with stealth technology .size should not be an excuse now for stealth in this modern time.

Stealth fighter didn't mean that they can't be intercepted it's means they can intercept enemy before enemy intercept them but after enemy came to certain range enemy can also intercept Stealth fighter.

We totally agree that Network-Centric capability is the current and future warfare methadology/Trend, But How good is India doing with EVACS and Unmanned platforms. Can we still improve Network centric capability of Sukhois also ?? Since we are using them in huge numbers.

The notion of stealth won't be relevant in the future is short sited and there are many factual errors. 4.5 gen won't be sufficient when it comes to future warfare. Next generation is not only about stealth, its data processing, handling signature in all spectrums. When aircraft handle so much data it generate many emissions in different spectrum, it has to be handled efficiently so 5th or 6th future development is a necessity. Also china and US are producing 50+ 5th gen stealth aircrafts of various types every year, they are investing in 6th generation fighters, also testing B 21 raider bomber. if not relevant why these countries invest in these development? Also to efficiently guid an IR missile using IRST sensor 4.5 gen aircraft will need to get close, because in volume search IRST has lower range than focused direction search. By that time J 20 or F 35 will have target locked on the aircraft. Also SDR radios are not any magic signals, to guide an IR missile in long range aircraft has to break its silence and transmit a signal to the missile, thus will get detected by EW systems of an enemy aircraft. Modern Air Forces use a combination of Active & Passive sensors - Radar, EW, RWRs and IRST in real combat. Even when pilots are flying with EMCON (radar off), they usually have external support i.e. either an AWACS or another aircraft providing Radar data. There is a process of shaping the battle field, so for a well planned enemy the above mentioned chain of network can broken, nothing is 100% perfect. Also modern aircraft being expensive is not a draw back, its a natural evaluation of technology. In the past keypad phone was cheap and durable. Now smartphones are fragile and much more expensive but still we use it, right? As the technology matures, more durable and adaptable stealth will be introduced.

Bro you explained things for future very nice, but I assume that you may didn’t explained F-22 stealth capabilities for some reasons, you got your right. F-22 sure is expensive but provides. Air dominance Air superiority Stealth ( not to mention f-22 enter Iraq 2 times and left and Russian S-400 couldn’t detect it, not to mention mirage 5000 didn’t knew that F-22 are flowing below them ) you just didn’t gave the true identification of the fear. + The thing you are talking about is America doing for 10 + years and when we will get there, they will move on to 6 generation. You get this idea from the master peace, computer used in F-22 and F-35, they provide them complete view of the enemies on ground, they target them, they can locate it, their avionics are on different league than current world, They don’t need AWACS but they still use it because of the budget they have. F-22 providing insane manoeuvre ability that is more insane that SU-35, F-35 cost less for maintenance and per hour flight than rafale, isn’t that a great feat? No doubt, F-22, you can call it an ART! of humans. While training of F-22, it was dog fight and rafale radar still can’t locate F-22 at such range properly. Not to mention F-22 and F-35 can change the direction of missile launched at them, missile can’t trace it. You should take your words about stealth, it is not easy to build something 80% stealthy.
