Juan (Blancolirio) and I take the Ercoupe and 'Mighty Luscombe' down to a farm strip in the valley. My first time landing on a valley farm strip like this. Always a fun adventure with Juan!

James, I really enjoyed your video. Reminds me of back in Amelia County, Virginia in the late '50s riding my bicycle 3 miles to Hill Top Airport, a grass, 1800-foot strip owned by a dairyman, Garland Moyer. He had a 1941 Piper J-3C Cub, a 1947 PA-12 Super Cruiser and an Aeronca 15AC Sedan. During the years others tied down their airplanes at Hill Top including a Luscombe, a Cessna 170 and others. Your super sharp 4K video on my iMac 27 was marvelous. My 3 partners and I are about to fly our Sportsman 2+2 for the first time in August. I'll let them and all of EAA Chapter 231 know about your KZfaq channel.

Love Ercoupes. I've never seen a polished metal finish one before though. It looks totally superb. Back in the 1960s, my local flying club here in England, (Herts and Essex Aero Club at Stapleford Tawney Aerodrome, Essex) had several Ercoupes they used for training. Don't see so many over here now sadly, but a few do turn up at fly-ins in my area. Now I've found you I'll follow you on KZfaq. I've been following Juan for a few years now. You live in a lovely part of California that I've visited a few times. I need to get back there before I'm too old!

Back in the mid 60’s my dad used to take me the State Line Airport, now defunct, in Kansas City. We flew in a lot of older planes, including an Aeronca, a Luscombe, and a Champ. I got the flying bug then. Years later, I got my PPL, while he didn’t know I was taking lessons. Went over for dinner one day and placed the ticket in front of him. Priceless reaction since he didn’t know I had been training. He was my first passenger. Sight seeing over the childhood homes and Arrowhead and Royals stadium. That old Marine still kickin at 92 yrs old. Thanks for the memories guys.

You solo from the front seat, the cabin is wider, the seats are more comfortable, you can see over the nose for better visibility on the ground, the oleo strut landing gear is softer than the Cub’s stiff gear. $2000 for a tailwheel! Stuff for airplanes costs even more than for some bikes. My Brompton folding bike is like that. Parts are pricey. I just paid $20 for a "lower stop disc" whose basic components would total less than $5. I didn't want to spend all the time it'd take to hunt each one up. Why are Brompton's so expensive? They build them in London, one of the most expensive cities in the world. They're viable on the market because they fold in thirds rather than half like most folding bikes. That makes them easier to fit into cars, boats and airplanes. Bagged. they will even go overhead on most commercial jets. As with planes, you can sometimes luck out buying one. I got mine used for $150, functional but needs work. I need not rue spending a little on parts.

Could use a lot more power not to mention bigger aircraft, I've seen larger RC models. Thought Juan was flying the big skies , guess not. No preflight check before or return, on that little bird, not a great protocol

Obviously, the video is edited, 120 mins of footage down to 27 mins; many things get dropped. I have my pre-flight and pre-takeoff checks in other videos, check out the flight to Auburn for better coverage of that.
