Sorry Jingna & Cara team... but I hope the app keeps blowing up and racks up server costs into the millions xD I think there is something really profound that this app is not only doing extremely well so quickly, but it was birthed from someone who has been involved in the community at our level. Someone who has contributed to the progress of Artistic and Creative legislation. I love that so much of the art community at every corner is involved in this and giving it a chance. I wanted to contribute my part to help keep the momentum going. We shape not only the physical world we live in, but the online landscape as well. I encourage everyone to make a stand today and demand the future you want without anyone else's permission.

7:22 people aren't leaving so their art isn't being used for AI, a lot of people understand that the damage has already been done. I think it's more so the principle of the lack of transparency and people wanting to protest the misuse of their work by leaving the platform. Even tho I don't think this will affect insta immediately but it will definitely damage it's reputation and I do believe in the long run insta will lose the art community as a whole if it continues down this path.

I've never been on Insragram because never have I ever trusted Facebook or Meta. My mom did use it to display her work, and she was worried about the whole instagram AI thing. She also told me about Cara. Looking at this video and the comments I think I'll take a look at it. However I'm starting to get tired to have all these accounts in different websites, and especially keeping up with all of them. The more I look at art on social media, the less impact the art pieces have on me and I just hit the like button and scroll. I don't think art is supposed to be that way and it feels we're (at least I am) overconsuming art just because "image pretty". It's just like any other type of post of tiktok that make you addicted to scrolling... Plus at the end of the day I feel bad for not drawing and posting online as much as I'd like, be it for progressing my skills or getting exposure. sorry for the rant

One thing I’ve noticed about Cara is it’s really hard to find artists who are less experienced, which makes it hard to network and find community if you yourself are inexperienced. Everyone on there that I see is a professional and highly skilled artist, which leads to a lot of gorgeous art on my feed, but it’s disheartening when you can’t find anyone even close to your skill level. I wish there was more discoverability of smaller creators, hopefully they will have the opportunity to add that in the future.

Instead of talking about what they cant or “shouldn’t” be able to do encourage people to donate to the team to help them launch successfully. If even half the users donated $5 theyd be able to pay off the debt. $5. Whats the excuse if we all hate how the social media giants like Meta,Google,Adobe are literally stealing artists work w/o compensation. Youd submit to that abuse because $5 is too much???? Again some excellent thoughts. My feelings are very similar. What Cara so far has brought me is the communication I have wanted with fellow artists. It’s literally that simple. If before on social media it had felt to me like I was in a crowded convention center trying to find specific people, now it feels as if they are right beside me in a comfortable room. In the past few days, I have talked with several folks about their sculpting process, which is wonderful! Just looking at some of their work sets a new benchmark for me to work towards in my own craft and process. It is a platform where I have felt comfortable being able to make comments on artwork and start conversations with people I have never met before. That is a great feeling of connection. I am indeed hoping that they may continue to be a space where I can discuss artwork and the making thereof.

One thing not mentioned enough here is why meta are really doing this As a computer scientist and a software engineer of 12 years, as well as an aspiring artist. I am massively anti AI ( I’m also trying to get out of IT development it’s genuinely soul crushing 😂) However it has a huge flaw , AI gets stupider over time yes it’s in a boom now but it is degenerative. To simplify ( drastically simplify) if you have an ai that generates a number between 1-10 and every time an answer is selected it is added back into that list as another possibility. So in this example the first time it throws out a number there’s a 1 in ten chance it comes out. If you say yes that selection is correct it then feeds that answer back into the list of potential answers. So say you selected the number 3 now that list has 11 entry’s but 3 is in there twice meaning the odds of getting a 3 is 2 in 11 versus the others being now 1 in 11. Now the more this happens the more chance of same number coming up for everyone is likely This is why you see a lot of repetition in Ai generated anything Meta is introducing this policy to tackle that flaw in AI , it needs a constant stream of new images to keep it from degenerating. In order for AI to evolve it needs a steady stream of new unique non AI generated images If your posts belong to meta ( now I don’t know about this bit) but there’s nothing stopping them from distributing this new data bank that’s constantly fed user unique info to companies. It’s a highly immoral way of getting around a problematic and fundamental flaw in computers as a whole l. Computers cannot make a decision ,humans do we either write a bit of code to say this is the right solution or in the case of creativity we are provided potential answers and we in the moment have to say this is right. They cannot learn themselves. I would strongly encourage stop posting to meta based platforms for this reason entirely.

Cara isn't the first app to promise utopia, I strongly discourage anyone that's platform jumping. Esp deleting big accounts, majority of audiences won't sign up to another social media just for art. I only see other artists be dedicated enough to do it😅 I know I'm being very negative, and I hope that I'm wrong and we can finally have a space for art. But the biggest concern is actually flagging or reporting art as AI. There will be many false reports and some that will eventually slip past the cracks, I see this as a bad set up to a joke and I really hope creatives aren't the butt of it, as we so often made to be in situations like these

First of all, I would like to say that your portrait sketches here look amazing they really capture her likeness. I never heard of Cara, but I will check it out due to Your video post. You're right that a lot has changed in such a short time with the advent of the internet, but I feel (as a traditional artist) not all for the better, now many of us don't really create physical pieces of our artistic expressions like before. Yet, most of it now is in the Digital sphere where it can be viewed by billion but at the same time used, manipulated, copied, and now even stolen by Artificial intelligence as fragmented pieces of Digital data for others to use without our knowledge, but to be honest I guess that was inevitable. It's funny to hear your story about deviantAR; because this was my experience as well, it took forever for people to like or even comment on your post, making it feel like no one was interested. Now it looks like no one is actually drawing or creating art but using AI so much that you can't even tell what's real art sometimes and what's AI generated.

The thing with ai from a code perspective. I was telling my dad this is you can't code the bigger picture. The bigger picture is nuance. The bigger picture is consciousness. Idk exactly how to word this but the reason ai art has that flat feeling is because of that. It's mimicking patterns without seeing the bigger picture of those patterns. And with some artists the literaly patterns in our work can be so miniscule which can lead to an even more complex overall image not from seeing the detail but the idea the detail is even there to begin with. That doesnt even really explain what im tryna say id have to show but well the example in this video shows it pretty well on the surface.

At the beginning of this year I decided to step back Twitter, the only social media site I use, even though I had started to post my art and follow artists but it became something else... something unhealthy... Used up too much time too. Since then Ive learned watercolor and I love it! Its something I always wanted to learn but keep falling short. I only had the time because I stepped back from Twitter. My girlfriend says Ive been in a better mood too. I was taking in too much negativity! All of the AI junk can be depressing!

This video was relaxing. Love it ❤.. I've had an IG for a while, and I was posting artwork for a bit. I knew my art wasn't amazing by any means, so I stopped. I would post day to day things. I'm drawing again, and I'm considering posting my art to cara, but the thought of artwork not being 100% safe is kind of scary to think about. I know it's a fear in the whole community. I just hope later on it won't be a fear anymore.

I left instagram personally. I don't post for the grind, or I don't make money out of the content I post. So, really, I just want to be in a community that feels safe. Cara gives that. I have been thinking of leaving instagram since the reels push, actually. So when I saw that meta decided to remove the opt-out option, it really was a cataclysm of elements that made me go away. I'm not making a living out of this, so it was easy to just quit right on the spot. I know I'm lucky to be able to make this decision, but im glad I have done so. Instagram started to feel like brain rot. Cara is like a breath of fresh air, it is so nice.

I saw a lot of AI bros on Reddit who is almost choking on their own spit in delight while watching Jingna Zhang's posts about how much money it consumes to run servers (she shared emails recently with the number ~90000$ in it). Like "ooohh yeaaaah cara is done already". Why the hell? How Cara's existence is affecting this young and not so young persons? Does it mean that they will never be able to scrap current AiStation or whatever they want? Nah, artists just want place for themselves - and it pisses AI bross off. They also try to spread the rumors about gray goals of Cara to scrap artworks, too, but I still don't understand what's the point of it. Comparing to Meta, it's small like a grain of sand comparising to the whole beach. Isn't it easier to just grab what is already online? What's the point for Jingna to risk her reputation? So many questions.

I have a question! The part with the example of the dog in the photo. If we post more process photos like that. Won’t it just train the ai to get around that? Whatever we use to complicate the image, if we’re adding more sources for the “weak spots” of AI, wont that just make it more well rounded?

I totally agree with your standpoint on how we artists should view AI from a different perspective. As artists, we excel in creating art and contributing unique perspectives and beauty to the world. While contemplating how to integrate AI into our practice, consistently sharing our artwork on various platforms, both online and offline, not only influences new artists-just as certain artists' works have profoundly inspired each of us-but also shapes AI models positively, enriching and broadening aesthetics.

But as a Artist/Coder, it's always fun to see a brand new app on the horizon though. I am hoping it will grow big in no time to push Instagram back on the ai issue eventually. One can only hope.

I know they said they can't allow NSFW content now, but I thought they're not even hyper realistic or super detailed, so I figured they'd be fine.
