Nathan East is a top ranked bassist, and I'm impressed at his vocal abilities, as well. Eric Clapton has a wonderful way of stepping back, and letting others take center stage. He is not driven by his own fame or talent. That kind of humility is rare in the music business.

@sandmanCQB85413 жыл бұрын
Don't forget his back up singers as well. As phenomenal and stunningly unbelievable that the music made by "just 3 guys" when he was with Cream, when he plays the songs now, the back up singers "fill in" a bit more. Even if it's just a simple little "Oh Yeah".... Listen to one of the more recent versions of "Sunshine of your Love" and you'll catch those singers throwing in a bit of "extra" compared to the original Cream version. I never thought I'd ever say a Cream song could be made "better", cause considering what "just 3 guys" put out, there's certainly no other Band with "just 3 guys" (with the possible exception of RUSH, who were mind blowing with not only how good they were, but how difficult their music was to play from a technical standpoint), but there have been bands with 4 or even more members who STILL couldn't match what "just 3 guys" were doing. Just my opinion, but I think it's a fair and valid point. Anyone else agree or disagree, and why ?, If you guys wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts and/or opinions.
@shawnmcvey77893 жыл бұрын
@@sandmanCQB8541 I don't disagree at all, but I was just kind of referring to that core rythm section he's had since the 90s. He's great at picking musicians but the other guitar slot and keyboard chairs very understandably seem to shift every now and then. Both East and Gadd have basically played with everyone, but it's just great to see how tight they are with Clapton at this point.
@sandmanCQB85413 жыл бұрын
@@shawnmcvey7789 I understood what you were referring to as far as that "core" he's been playing with since the 90s, and I also agree with you as far as that goes, as well as the "shifting" in some other areas. I don't think it would be fair for any one of us to speculate why that is. As far as it goes, it could just be something as simple as a scheduling issue (Although I can't imagine anyone not literally just dropping whatever they may be working on for the chance or opportunity to play with Clapton, that's an offer that anyone would be crazy to turn down, but again, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes that leads to that. The one thing we DO know for sure is that, as you mentioned, Clapton is obviously great at choosing the musicians to fill those spots, and it's a safe bet to make that, being that were talking about Eric Clapton, you know he most likely has only the best of the best lining up around the block to get a chance to play a gig with him, and from that line, he cherry picks the people he wants sitting in those spots. I have NO idea how or why he makes those choices, he's probably the only person who does. One things for sure though, and I'm sure we agree... When they all sync up, that's when the magic happens, and Brother, it is something incredible to see and hear. Truly spectacular. All of them.
@iconoclastKM3 жыл бұрын
@@shawnmcvey7789 One must also mention Chris Stainton (though absent here), as well. And Willie Weeks has possibly matched the great Nathan East in longevity, and surely capability from a 'groove' perspective. Of course, Andy Fairweather-Lowe holds the line also, as the '2ndGuitar'.

So true. They don't call him Slowhand for nothin' (not to mention "God"). I've been going to see Clapton since the very late 70s. When that man pics up a guitar, the smart thing to do is just sit back, WATCH, and LISTEN. The music he creates is Legendary, and the seemingly effortless way in which he plays it is astounding, whether it's a totally laid back song like this, or a jam that he just let's go and lights it up. The man just makes it look SO easy. Total LEGEND. It just doesn't get any better. ✌
