Another well of songs to dive into when you start listening to Clapton: Cocaine; I Shot the Sheriff; Running on Faith; Layla; Tears in Heaven; Lay Down Sally; White Room (when he was in the band Cream); Sunshine of Your Love (again with Cream); Forever Man; It's in the Way That You Use It (from the movie The Color of Money). So, so, so many to choose from!

He used to break a lot of guitar strings during concerts and while the band kept repeating the same bar over and over as he replaced the broken string the crowd would do a slow hand clap until the song resumed. Hence, he got the nickname Slow Hand.
@2dashville
@2dashville 4 жыл бұрын
I looked it up to see if I remembered correctly; Yardbirds' rhythm guitarist, Chris Dreja, recalled that whenever Clapton broke a guitar string during a concert, he would stay on stage and replace it. The English audiences would wait out the delay by doing what is called a "slow handclap". Clapton's nickname of "Slowhand" came from Giorgio Gomelsky, a pun on the slow handclapping that ensued when Clapton stopped playing while he replaced a string.[21] In December 1964, Clapton made his first appearance at the Royal Albert Hall, London, with the Yardbirds.[20] Since then, Clapton has performed at the Hall over 200 times, and has stated that performing at the venue is like "playing in my front room".[22][23]

This was among several songs written for Patti Boyd. She was originally Eric's best friend George Harrison (The Beatles) wife. She also inspired the Beatle song "Something" and then "Layla" from Eric who loved Patti from afar while she was married to George. When Patti and George eventually split, Eric and Patti did get together but did not stay together. Still she was the love of two of rock royalty and the inspiration for many songs. As a matter of fact much of Eric's album when he was with Derek and the Dominoes "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" had a pretty consistent theme of unrequited love or similar, for example; "Why Does Love Got to be So Sad" and "Have You Ever Loved a Woman", while not all were written for Patti on that album you can feel love and desire dripping from the whole thing. It's one of the best albums of all time and featured Duane Allman from the Allman Brothers as well.

My husband and I were married on a Wed nite in a coffee shop when I was 50 and he was 61. The local newscaster sang this song at our "reception." We really just had sandwiches, salads, and wine with cupcakes. It was a free and easy open house with people coming and going. We stood in front of the fireplace to say our vows and the ceremony lasted 9 minutes. What a wonderful night. 💖

Clapton's my favorite musician of all time. I hate this song. Mostly because people think it's 100% genuine sweetness, and swoon all over it. It's probably been mentioned, but Clapton wrote this--or at least started writing it--due to his wife driving him crazy by taking forever to get ready to go anywhere. She's come out of their room over and over with different outfits asking "Do I look alright?" and his reply was "Yes, you look wonderful; can we go?" It was during one such night that he started writing this. Anyway, if you read all that, here's some Clapton recommendations: "Layla" from Derek and the Dominoes (I'd say this over the Unplugged version, since it's got that great "unrequited love" pain in it), "Crossroads" from Cream for some of the best live guitar work the man ever did (the original album version, not the 2005 reunion), and "Old Love", your best bet being from a live performance somewhere in the 90's. Have a great day/night!

I grew up close to the beach. My parents and I would take a drive to the beach with the top back. (I was very young) I can remember looking over the seat to see my dad holding my mom's hand and singing this song. Fast forward to 1989, my sweetie and I were taking a drive to the beach. This song came on and he reached for my hand and started singing. Half way through, he had tears in his eyes. I asked why the tears. His reply: I remember as a kid riding down to the beach with mom and dad, and dad would sing this to mom and hold her hand. We had both recently lost our fathers. And it was so fitting. He and I are not together any more. But every now and then, I see the song posted on his FB page with a caption that says..... "What a drive, and yes you'll always be wonderful"

Unfortunately, Eric has had to stop playing, he just doesn't have the dexterity anymore to play. Thank God we still can enjoy music from those who can't play it anymore, or have passed on.

This song makes me cry happy tears. I have two daughters, the eldest was very thin and when she came home after classes. She would have tears running down her face. Saying I am so ugly ,it was difficult time for her and me. She turned into a swan in her junior year. She went to school dance and and a fellow asked her to dance and sang that song to her . I can still remember warm tears coming down my cheek, she had just discovered just how beautiful she was and always had been. I still cry, my baby just had a birthday 43rd. She is still just as beautiful .

This song was played at just about every wedding for a decade. You absolutely have got to do "Bell Bottom Blues". The love anthem of the 70s.

The song was written for a woman named Patti Boyd, who was married with Eric Clapton for a while after she was married to his good friend George Harrison of The Beatles, who also wrote a beautiful song for her called "Something," which you should totally react to. It's a pretty cool back story to look into. Btw You should definitely react to some Beatles stuff. They are the GOAT! Loads and loads of incredible, beautiful, twisted, and unique music. The variety of styles in their song writing is awe inspiring
