I can't get enough of this video. The sport of showjumping lost a great athlete and will not be the same without the great Hickstead to grace the ring. Hickstead was an incredible horse. A once in a lifetime horse. With Eric in the tack the pair were unstoppable. It was a privilege to be able to watch such an amazing horse-rider team. His legend will live on. Condolences to Eric, and his team. The equine community stands up for the champions. RIP.

Rarely does one have the opportunity to witness a horse and rider comradeship such as we have seen with Eric Lamaze and the phenomenal Hickstead. They have inspired so many and ignited a level of pride in Canadian equestrian excellence not seen since the days of Jim Elder. Thank you Eric and Hickstead. I think that my favorite thing about Eric Lamaze is that everytime he jumps an amazinf round and the crowd is going insane he points to his horse. I LOVE THAT

I always loved how Eric, after all the rounds that I've seen them do together, would point to Hickstead, signaling that it was all him. He knew that he had an unbeatable partner and I can only imagine how it must feel to have his friend, partner, and four-legged brother snatched away. RIP Hickstead and I truly hope all the best for Eric in light of this tragedy

It was Eric Lamaze's come back, and he made it HIS competition, and he's stayed on top or close since then. He makes us proud to be Canadian, and to me was the highlight of 2008 Games!

Eric is a very nice down to earth guy, I remember watching him in competitions in his 20's I knew back then he was Olympic champion material. At first I always had the impression he was there because he loved the sport and he also takes it very seriously every competition he's in there to win and that's why he is where he is determination. Congrats Eric, You're the best! I have my picture taken with him at a show jumping clinic. It's a treasure!

It's been two weeks, I still can't believe your really gone... R.I.P. Hickstead, now you'll truly be able to fly with your angel wings...

It seems that every rider bumps into that 'once in a lifetime' horse. I remember watching the individual competition when it first aired and when Eric Lamaze and Hickstead cleared the last fence, it felt like a little bit of history in the making.

I first found this video during the WEG in Kentucky in 2010. I loved it then and I love it now (I've have probably watched it 100 times). It's really well done and captures what is special about Eric and Hickstead's story. It might seem a bit odd to take comfort from a KZfaq video, but upon learning of Hickstead's death, I went looking for this video and it really helps to see him in action at the top of his game. Great work. Just regret the circumstances that led me to seek it out again.

I was in Scotland last year during the individual equestrian finals... and they actually had coverage, something that never happens here in Canada. My mom convinced me not to stay back in the hotel room and to go shopping with her, and when I came back and found out Lamaze won gold... I was furious. lol.
