Lutron's motion sensor is easy to dismiss since it doesn't integrate with smart home systems like HomeKit, but I think that's a mistake. If you have Lutron Caséta Wireless lights, this sensor offers some powerful automation capabilities that are hard to reproduce in other systems.

I used your video to set up two of these for my parents in their garage and laundry room and it was a huge help, thanks Eric!

Amen. I bought it as soon as it came out and it is so much more responsive than any other motion sensor I’ve had to control any Casada light

Nice moves down the stairs! I’ve never used the Lutron motion sensor, but this looks solid! I have several of the Eve motion sensors which are nice, but a little finicky. I may have to give the Lutron one a try.

Do you think this could be used outside like under and eve so it’s not getting wet but would be exposed to low temperatures or perhaps you have another suggestion. I’m currently using the classic x10 outside motion sensor but it’s signal over the wiring is just not reliable enough

Which Lurton smart switch is compatible with the motion sensor or are there Lurton smart switches which motion sensors ? Thank you.

Hi Eric So all I need to get is the caseta light switches to used this motion sensor and I don't need to buy smart bulb, Am I right?

Thank you for mentioning the occupancy switch. The Caseta Motion sensor has more uses, but I see so many people on Reddit asking how to use a $70 switch with a $50 sensor in places like a closet or bathroom. SAVE your money for more useful applications and use the DUMB switch!

I agree, too much money to spend on automating lights just to pee at 2am lol. I use a neat little philips hue Go light for my entire bathroom that is triggered with motion. Cheaper and does the job!

I’m confused about the motion sensitivity, according to your explanation, high sensitivity means it takes a lot more motion to trigger it, common sense tells me high sensitivity means the sensor will be too sensitive and can be triggered with less motion

Hi Eric what type of light bulb do I need to get to work with this motion sensor? Thank You! :)

This is a Lutron Motion Sensor, which means it's meant to pair with Lutron Caséta light switches installed in the wall. Non-smart LED bulbs that work well with Lutron switches can be found at their compatibility checker www.lutron.com/en-US/pages/ledcompatibilitytool/compatibility.aspx If you are looking for a motion sensor that triggers a smart bulb, I would check out Philips Hue for that instead of this motion sensor.

I'm installing Caseta switches with the Caseta Smart Bridge, not lights. Do all the things you're saying about "lights" apply to "switches"? I did a bunch of googling and I don't see that Lutron makes lights.

I love the Lutron Caseta hardware, it can handle most basic usage, but after four years it seems too basic, and Lutron so far has not been even a little interested in significant feature improvements.
@EricWelander
@EricWelander 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I understand your complaint, but I think sometimes basic is what's reliable. Lutron moves slowly so they can get it right.

I want to get one for the laundry room I just wish they made a diva dimmer switch that didn’t have dimmer I know they do make one but my house needs switches that all need no neutral wires cause my house don’t have them so in the end I have to get diva Caseta dimmers and pico remotes for the second switch

Very confusing when you talk about caseta lights (not switches) in order to use the sensor.

This sensor says indoor use only - I tried this sensor in my garage in Phoenix AZ but It does not like the summer heat. It still does work but the detection range is hugely reduced when its hot - works OK in wintertime and cooler mornings. So beware about using these in high ambient temperature conditions.

works fine for me. Get an insulated garage door.
@alanmoore2197
@alanmoore2197 Жыл бұрын
@@monohydrate2 Good it works for you - but I think you misunderstand how insulation works! Ambient temperature in Phoenix in summer is often over 110F - much more if there is a hot car inside.
@monohydrate2
@monohydrate2 Жыл бұрын
@@alanmoore2197 An insulated garage door will keep the heat out. Get an electric vehicle too. I think doing those two things would help you. It cost me about $65k for the Tesla and $3k for insulated garage doors though.
@alanmoore2197
@alanmoore2197 Жыл бұрын
@@monohydrate2 How? steady state the garage will still fully reach ambient temp in time - Physics says so. You simply have no idea about living in the desert do you? I will also drive whatever I want thanks! Lets recap here - You suggest I pay $68K to have a motion sensor work? Stop with the unhelpful comments.
@monohydrate2
@monohydrate2 Жыл бұрын
@@alanmoore2197 110 F is peak temperature. It gets colder at night time. Having an insulated garage door should help keep a more reasonable steady state temperature inside your garage versus plain sheet metal non-insulated door. Honestly I was shocked at the difference. It gets -30 F and up to 110 F here in the Midwest. If you want to talk physics then think thermodynamics. We are reducing the flow of heat, or thermal energy, between the external and internal environments.
