Ermac, Reptile, Baraka, all three of these have the same thing in common. they were characters that at one time were interesting but have become little more than Generic one note Jobber-fodder (Baraka and Reptile especially considering Baraka is now just a mob NPC and reptile is now just a generic lizard person with a gollum/Igor voice with really no arc or followup to his story. Speaking of these two would you consider doing a wasted potential on either of them?

Ermac teaching Kenshi telekinesis as a whole is much better then him being taught one move that he could’ve easily done on his own by thinking for five seconds. Also the name “King Ermac” Just sounds awesome.

You know, my first official game of MK was Deception, and I generally hated... most of the characters. A lot of them were uninteresting, including the popular ones like Scorpion and such, they just didn't grab me... Ermac did though. Of all the characters he hit the critiera of A) Looks and Design, B) Gameplay and Feeling, and C) Background and Abilities Whilst other characters may have hit one or two of them, Ermac was the one that hit it for me in Deception, and I generally never felt any regrets. I only wish that Ermac got some love, but then again I kinda wish that for other characters that I generally don't like as much as well.

I think the biggest offender is that, aside from Ermac being responsible for Jax's metal arms and hinting that Jerrod's soul makes his being, they added NOTHING to the character in 2 games (and butchered him in a process). He only exists in story mode of both games to pad them with extra fights, nothing more. I won't bother to make take on Ermac, because just like Shang Tsung, Reptile, Baraka and Sheeva he got trashed so hard in this new timeline that nearly anything would be better than what NRS done with him. That and i like your take very much.

I honestly like Ermac as a collective minded creation. Bringin Jared back for redemption of ermac would be too cliche. However, since all souls are edenian, he could be freed from kahns magic and instead of one soul dominating others, Ermac can stay as a collective minded creation and fight for edenias future.

Instead of dying in the krypt Reptile, Rain, Kenshi and the others should open up a restaurant called Ermac and cheese.

Not much to say here from me, I enjoyed the video and really like the idea of Shao Kahn and Jerrod fighting again, but this time for control of Ermac.

Honestly characters like Ermac, Sindel and Mileena are a lot more interesting to me than Scorpion, Johnny and Sub-Zero. The latter three usually get a decent amount of screen-time anyway but it would be nice if they could step aside for some of the other characters! :O

I hate watching these videos because it makes me realize how solid and how much better the story could be if NRS didn't spend the majority of their creative budget on how to make Scorpion as cool as possible.

You just added more reason for me, why I still prefer the Original Timeline. The alternative timeline have cool ideas, but these gets crushed down with mistakes. And it is not healthy for the franchise.

For Reptile, I think it would be really cool to see him take a similar deal that Erron Black originally did, where Shang Tsung offers him eternal life/lack of aging. Reptile living forever means his species would be unable to fully die out, and he won't have to rush to find a way to restore the Saurians. In exchange, he could perhaps not take an active role in the tournament, rather, he could ambush earthrealm kombatants who posed a potential threat, and take them out during tournament downtime, as a sneaky way for Shang to tip the scales in Outworld's favor.

Not to mention ermac is one of if not the most legendary character in the whole series going from playground stories of him even existing to playable red ninja to badass telekinetic mummy to Kitana’s father trapped in a prison of souls to bad guy

Yes! All of this! I hate the way they treated Ermac. He is one of my favorite characters from the series, but he ends up being bitch slapped and trivialized through the entire new time line. Any of your ideas would've been PERFECT! So goddamn frustrating that the studio couldn't be bothered to even try...

There are still hope for Ermac story. For example: Kenshi is dead and Takeda wield the Sento. He travel in Outworld to revenge on Daegon. He meets Ermac nearby the Soul Chamber. Ermac teaches him how to use telekinetic power of Sento. And Takeda with the help of Ermac defeats the Red Dragon and its leader. Why to Ermac doing this? Maybe he wish to undo all what he had wrought by order of Shao Kahn.

During MK9 Sindel should’ve confronted “half” of the earth realm fighters. That being Night Wolf, Sub Zero, Jax, Sonya and Kitana. Then cut to Chapter Ermac/Kenshi. It cuts to Kenshi looking for Shang Tsung then encounters Ermac. Their telekinetic battle leaves gets flashbacks of his past. He gains a control and thanks Kenshi for freeing him. He assist Kenshi traversing in Kahn’s fortress. (Shang Tsung didn’t die in this version) They Run into Shang Tsung’s lab and Ermac receives more flash backs but Mileena and Shang Tsung find them and find out Ermac is a traitor. Right when Kenshi is about to deliver the killing blow to Shang Tsung, tarkatans swarm the lab and Ermac retreats into a portal he creates. He senses a familiar aura being Sindel, then they find her next to the bodies of the earth realm fighters (except Sonya is unconscious). Ermac sees Kitana and it triggers his final memory. He tries to subdue her but she proves too much for him, which leads Kenshi to defeating her. Ermac breaks her mind control and Sindel becomes horrified at the fact she slated her own daughter. She swords revenge on Kahn for what she has did to her and her family. That way, they lose 3 heroes for 3 new ones. Sorry for typing an entire novel

Here's another possibility for the new timeline with the idea of two Ermacs: Have both of them set aside their lead souls' differences to serve Mileena, but for different reasons. For Ermac-Khan, have him serving Mileena because he not only considers Mileena his daughter, but he also wants to stop the man who calls himself "Khan" and who sits on his throne. For King Ermac, he wishes to help Mileena become her own woman, have her saved from the cruel reality she's headed towards and treat her as a surrogate daughter much like how Kitana is his actual daughter. It can also help with Mileena's development a little too, with her having to decide which way to go? Does she stay allegiant to Shao Kahn, does she go with the group treating her like a real family in Jerrod and Sindel? Or does she forge her own path, maybe leave on her personal journey of self discovery and possible redemption when she comes across Kitana and/or Jade if one or both happen to be free from the Revenant curse?

I've always seen Ermac and Scarlett as Shao Khan's insurance policy. One gains power by assimilating souls and the other blood. If Shao ever died, his soul and all the souls he ate would be keyed in to be absorbed into Ermac and his blood into Scarlett. Both would be more powerful but would fuse together to rebirth Shao Khan, now boosted in power from Ermac and Scarlett.

Love to hear your thoughts on Rain. I find it almost criminal he's been practically ignored since the reboot. His Armageddon story really opened him up to a lot of possibilities and I'd love to see him interacting more with the other Edenians. Rain would certainly have something to say about King Jerrod taking dominance of Ermac.

In the old games Ermac could take on Johnny Cage (can dodge bullets, chop heads in half and rip bodies apart), Kung-Lao (a Shaolin Monk, probably equal or slightly weaker than Liu-Kang), Jax (can dodge bullets, punch people through the ground and even tag Kabal in MK 11) and Sonya (can dodge bullets, can rip people in half with her legs and send them flying through the air with them) all at once meaning he took on four super strong, bullet timers and master martial artists on at the same time and won. In the newer games he gets defeated by Liu-Kang (not a bad thing, dude can beat Shao-Kahn and Shinnok), gets beaten by Sub-Zero (dude is stronger or at least equal to Bi-Han who defeated gods) after blowing off Jax's arms, beats Johnny Cage (who has become more impressive, but wasn't at this point) and then loses to Stryker (a normal cop), then Tekada (someone weaker than Sub-Zero), then Jacqui (same thing, and they are both amateurs). At the very least, they showed his telekensis was powerful enough to uproot trees which I imagine is impressive, otherwise he went from taking on four strong main characters at the same time to only managing to beat two in two separate one on one battles and mostly getting his ass kicked by normal dudes and amateurs. Also in Leather Face's trailer, instead of him killing Jacqui and Cassie, two characters who would match victims of a horror movie, they instead have him kill Ermac, Ermac's ending has him get killed and in MK11 he dies from falling on a spike in the Krypt despite him being able to fly. He went from top tier to mid tier to bottom tier over the course of four games.

People give too much credit to NRS for MK lore. Ermac turned to a Scorpion 2.0. Scorpion became infamous for franchise that they needed him to have a major role in the main story. He was supposed to be a Spectre that seemed unbeatable but now it's Ermac which is fine because MK needs it.

A part of me is convinced that this video was the inspiration for taking Jerrod being part of Ermac from “cool ending tidbit” to “part of Ermac’s story” in MK1 It’s not exactly what they did, but that’s good. It wouldn’t have worked in the new timeline the exact way it was done and it would’ve been lazy to just copy-paste this. I’m glad they finally did something BOLD with Ermac, something that dramatically changes his story going forward. Even if the way it was done is kinda bs, I’m very happy with the decision to do this. I love Ermac and I can’t wait to see this new direction they’re taking him in.

The idea of a split Ermac makes sense. 2 of them represented and Kahn and Jarod fighting for dominance on the inside is great 👍 Midway hinted at a similar idea with Spirit Lui Kang and Zombie Lui Kang in Deception, as well as Bi-han being both Noob AND original Sub-zero, but never followed through. Noob-Zero and Lui Kang restored would be cool 😎 I even liked in Quan Chi's Deadly alliance ending when Lui Kang's soul took over a dead Kano. Imagine THAT as a possibility 😳 Anyway I really like where you went with this and Ermac was one of my favorites. Oh and I'm assuming he was around for a while, at least in his ORIGINAL time-line because of the role he played in Konquest mode with Shujinko and Asharah. I never liked his" oh we created him for MK1 for the hell of it angle; nor his taking Jax's arms randomly" that they did in the new time-line. I figured he is seen again after the first tournament in MK Shaolin monks but encounters Kenshi instead of Lui Kang and Kung Lao. After the battle Ermac takes pity on Kenshi, understanding his plight with his struggle with his ancestors and teaches Kenshi nessacary skills he needs to defeat Shang Tsung and get revenge. We don't see Kenshi until Deadly alliance, but Ermac is scene having a change of heart during MK 3 after Shao Kahn is defeated. He goes on a spiritual journey after this and by Deception decides to attone for his actions by helping Earth Realm's heroes defeat Onaga. Than the stuff you said happens and BOOM! He's a great character again 👏

Can't say how much I appreciate someone finally demanding quality story plots, even dedicating a whole channel to call out examples and suggest better ones. So tired of hearing the "dumb fighting game" excuse for subpar narratives. The stories and mysticism of the OG first 3 games is what keeps me glued to the franchise to this day. Could care less about (but do appreciate) the stuff that came afterward, so if they're gonna keep going, make the stories excellent. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Mileena becoming the new queen of Edenia makes sense. Like, becoming good and seeing her potential and not just some poorly cloned Kitana with Tarkatan blood. She could sit on the throne of Edenia, one of both Edenian and Outworld, emissary to Earthrealm, creating a balance between Order Realm and Chaos Realm, which don't get mentioned much anymore. But maybe they will be. So, honestly, I felt this was major plotential for Mileena moreso than Ermac. Though Ermac has always been one of my favorites. I actually loved what they did with him. Far more interesting now.

There's a mirror match dialogue variant, where Ermac 1 notices that Ermac 2 isn't under Shao Kahn's spell anymore. If you get the normal version, then Ermac 2 says that they serve no one. But in the variant, where he speaks in a single voice, saying that he's found his own path. There's a good chance that Ermac 2 here is now fully overtaken by Jerrod.

Ermac is my favorite character in all of MK. The fact that NRS mistreats the character so much makes my blood boil sometimes, especially with the redesign they gave him now. I like the ideas in this video, however, I think nowadays Ermac relies too much on having Jerrod's soul, ever since they introduced that plot point in MK9 it's the only thing people focus on when talking about him, like it's the only interesting thing about the character. Honestly, I like that idea, but I also think it forces Ermac to be Jerrod, something the character didn't need to be great. He's not Ermac anymore, he's just Jerrod. In the original timeline, no soul in Ermac's body took control, they were a hive mind and agreed on every thought, making them one being. I think if they developed Ermac better they could use the idea that he has Jerrod's soul, but at one point Jerrod's soul manages to leave Ermac's body and gets his own body, separating the two characters. Good video anyway.

In the Black Company books, one of the main villains is a character called "soulcatcher" who supposedly steals souls from people. The sorceress had many voices, sometimes sounding like an old man, sometimes, like a young child, and sometimes like a spoiled princess. In the beginning of the story, it wasn't even clear which gender soulcatcher actually is because the voices would change so often and the character always wore black robes. I think it would be cool if Ermac was more like that. Like, not only is Jerrod soul in there, but also some great warrior of the shokan is in there too, and maybe some uber assassin of the reptile species. All these ancient strong willed beings fighting for dominance over one body.

Johnny descended from a Warrior cult? That makes his ending in MK:A where he found enlightenment and shunned his movie star life look good, lol. At least that made thematic sense. Your videos convince me more and more that I was right to pass on the reboot.
