This man saved my life, I was a private adoption and had SpinaBifida. The state told my adoptive mother to either divorce my father or surrender me to the state for suppprt , or put me in a home as I would be retarded (debatable at times lol) and crippled. Everyone turned me down. My mom saw him on a talk show talking about his work with Shriners desperate to save my life she wrote him a letter. A week later he got back to her he sponsored me at Shriners and my 3 million dollar operation. At nine momths I had my surgery. I walk, I am recent amputee but it has made me me able and capable over most able bodied people . This man, a stranger to a little girl long ago saved my life and if angels or saints exsist he is one. My mom, father, and I will ne forever greatful for his kind act. I am now 30 my predicted life span was 2 years. He is a hero. I owe him my life.

@@jameshuseby6290 Being a good human being doesn't count for winning an Oscar. Incredible you haven't figured that out by now. The OP is correct, he was a lesser actor than all the others yet still won. Some say it's because Burt Lancaster had pull and it was all politics. I say he gave a marvelous performance on that film. But don't delude yourself. The world doesn't work based on who is a better human being.

It's possible that of the 35 Million human beings who have been put to death by the U.S military since 1945 that some of their surviving relatives recognise the connection between war propaganda salesmen, like Borgnine and many other 'actors', and the blight that the United States is upon humanity and chose to thumb down the video - a 243 year old nation that has been at war for 224 of those years (93% of its existence) You wont see it yourself since those that organise your life for you also took the liberty of educating your grand parents and parents before you - enjoy your brainwashed dystopia an remember 2 planes can cause 3 steel towers to 'collapse' at free fall speed symmetrically into their own footprint - that's normal.

What a great man. Ernie loved the profession and wanted it to continue with the dignity and devotion that he put into it for decades. Ernie may not have received top billing in many of his movies, but he put every ounce into every part, and it showed, many times he out performed bigger stars. I recently watched a documentary about Ernie travelling around the Midwest with his son Chris in his beautiful rv the Sunbum. Ernie was very proud to be an American. RIP Ernie.

The audience is standing up After the compilation but before Mr Freeman is presented as host of the event. They aren't giving standing ovations to Mr Freeman but to honour Mr Borgnine and what's coming up next: The lifetime achievement award and yes, Mr Borgnine himself. They can't just fall down on their seats fast as lightning when Mr Freeman comes in. It's just about good manners. The three times the audience stood up was for Mr Ernest Borgnine only, Mr Wild Bunch. That's my opinion.

Not entirely sure, but looking at the clip I think she is possibly expressing some surprise at how sprightly he is, as they show her at about the point he literally jumps on to the stage. Not many people that sprightly at 94! It's a lovely speech that he makes, I hope a few people in the audience are remembering that now he's gone. Sad to see another one go, but good to see him so sprightly right up to the end!
