People either get Mr. Kovacs’ brilliance, or they don’t. No middle ground. I’m fortunate, I’ve always been able to appreciate his genius. Everyone has their own tastes.

The laughter is the camera crew cracking up. They were a close bunch of friends who could share in Ernie's sense of humor, and make it come alive. For 1950's televison, he was way, way , ahead of his time. "We all loved him".

If he did, he wasn't the only one. Laugh-In did it, too.

They were PAID to laugh if they wanted to keep their job. The "humour" was as dry as a martini. I would help if he got hit in the face with a pie.

Ernie was ahead of our time also. Please share with the young folks.

He was just smart, too smart for the audience then, and especially too smart for the audience today. He was a comedian's comedian through and through.

Back in the 70's Iowa Public TV would run old Ernie Kovacs shows on Saturday nights. My dad would let me stay up and watch them with him and mom. The laughter will always be remembered, thanks Ernie.

My dad turned me on to Kovacs back in the 60s when the newness of his brand of comedy was still very apparent. Unfortunately, the available clips were limited. Thanks for these posts!!

Supposed to be water in that glass. The crew would sometimes fill it with vodka, particularly if Ernie was thirsty. Got him very quickly drunk when he chugged what he thought was water.

This stylish and woke gentleman seems to be ahead of his time. A lovely poem and reading. Why doesn't anyone ever mention him? The only thing that I didn’t like was the way the video ended it. Forcing the man to slide off the chair! with bad camera work? That didn't seem right.

The only thing I found funny was the name Kovacs chose for himself. Kovacs was one of those comedians that you either liked or didn't care for. I fall into the latter category.
