your frustrations with retail 100% valid, i only play classic wow because of the direction they took with retail. But part of me is optimistic ( copium ) with these next three upcoming expansions just because Chris Metzen is back. If you noticed, the lore started to decline after legion which was when Metzen left ( i personally left when legion launched but the lore was still somewhat entertaining for me personally ), So Maybe there's still hope for the future of wow.

You hit the nail right on the head here! Warcraft today is so insanely focused on your character being this demi-god chosen one where the entire world revolves around you, and it shows in the gameplay: The world is just a "bump" on the road to end-game content, you barely need other players, because why would you, when you're the legend himself?! It's all about just reaching max level and doing the end game content, Classic WoW really shows in stark contrast what an MMO should be like: You're part of a faction and have to work together, explore, quest and the whole "journey" (Sorry for the overused word haha) going from 1-60 is such a magic and big part of the game, with all it's crazy items, non streamlined playstyle and quirkiness that we all love so much!

I’m glad to hear you’ve been playing hardcore classic and enjoying it. I too played it like I was a kid again for a month or so until I reached level 60. It gave me an immense feeling of being young again - the discovery, the vast amount of players out in the world for you to meet and work together with, and generally looking at the game through a more careful, thought out pace was nice for a change. You’ll think I’m crazy, but there have been times where I thought how cool it would be to see you randomly pop up in one of my dungeon groups or in the city, or perhaps even the death log. Lol I hope you are able to find your love for the game the same way. And know that for the rest of us, we also struggle to feel excited the way we did when we were kids. Perhaps that’s just a part of getting older

Your thoughts mirror so many of my own. I still love the game, but i mostly play older content now. I often just level up alts in old classic zones lol! I like to collect atm too. I really struggled with the last two expansions. I just couldnt get into the storyline. Omg yes ogres! I so wish they would add them as a playable race! I put off buying the last two expansions for agessss lol, so ill prob be the same with these!

Would love a video on your history with wow! Classes and roles during each expansion. I’m like you I have gotten the new expansions but cannot get into it. But I find the memories of raiding through WOLK and my time in Legion fun to revisit, would be fun and relaxing to hear your experiences.

I agree with most of your points, I started playing in 2006 and was really active until legion. so today I 99% of my time are playing some form of classic and just play a few hours of each new patch in retail.

I'm really excited to watch how Midnight expansion goes, cause as a Belf I want to visit the revamped Quel'thalas. I think once they're finished these next 3 expansions we will be looking to a WOW 2.0 or something like that. Also, imo, I think we can't blame them for everything, game has changed, mostly for the worst part, but I think we changed as players as well. We will never get the same feelings back like we got in TBC no matter what they do to try to fix the game. But it's ok, we must flow with it.

Blizzards last ‘Gotcha’ for me was Diablo4. I gave up on WoW years ago but D4 ended my desire to play their games at all. Great video from you ❤❤

I honestly relate to this a lot. I’m feeling the same way with FFXIV. I log on to that game and I feel like I’ don’t know what to do. I honestly was interested in playing WOW, seeing your thoughts and opinions on the matter I feel a bit disappointed that Blizzard is taking away the original idea of the game. I want to try WoW because I’m a big fantasy fanatic, I love orcs a lot and their culture and Warcraft has the best looking orc race in all of fantasy in my opinion. Should I give retail a chance or should I focus on Classic? Which is an experience I haven’t had yet. Thank you for your thoughts I honestly appreciate the insight and the fact that you have a lot of experience and love for the franchise solidifies your opinion even more.

I played the original WoW up until WotLK and it would've been considered one of my favorite games ever back then. I miss the feeling of mystery and just being an adventurer out in the world and none of the current style of storytelling seems to have any of that. It's less a world of lore, and more focus on a single storyline everyone gets to participate in and be the main character.

I quit wow when cataclysm came out, I was only twelve yrs old at the time but even then I had the brains to realize it all had went down the drain at that point and I've never played it since 😂😂 (I'm in mid 20s now 👴). Great whispering btw, listened all the way through which isn't normal for me.

I have no skin in the game. This is an alternate account and not my main. I haven't played in ages. I do feel like the company relies heavily on your friends getting you to buy the new stuff. They dont care to deliver a solid product because they have people addicted to launch. Once your friends are playing in the first 30-90 days of an expansions release, you get calls about coming back. Thats when they get the players that have invested a lifetime in the franchise to buy expansion or release after release. Im so sorry they have betrayed millions of loyal players with the sales and marketing being more geared for release and not quality long term expansion story development. Just my opinion.

Retail story is really boring nowadays. Legion was the only retail expansion I really became invested into and stayed until the end. I really hope they don't disappoint with Seasons of Discovery because it sounds promising. In the meanwhile, I'll be playing on Warmane's new progressive server.

Season of Discovery seems good if you don't have a lot of time to play. Since the levels will be in stages, 25 cap to start. I dunno if I will bother with it though.

I never pay attention to the any kind of cons. It's sad though to hear how they're not delivering anything good for new content. Big companies don't seem to know what to do with their IPs that is, well, what players want. Or they do stuff until after most of the player base lost interest. Apex is like that for me, I played it alot in 2020 with friends and now none of us play it, EA just started implementing cross progression with the accounts so something like a ps4 account could be used on pc. So finally using like a main account instead of having one on every platform. But it's been nearly a year since I played and not one of my friends have interest in playing it so yeah. There's also just some bad memories associated with Apex for me so, no. I really loved your thoughts on this. Please don't apologize for rambling, your opinions are wonderful to hear, you care so much for a game you love. It's something I'm sure a lot of us viewers understand and can completely get behind. Your right about the game not being the same. I think the game changed to what it is now when Activision bought Blizzard and the game went from being by gamers for gamers to a cash grab. I remember having a sense of community with the player base during vanilla, BC, and Wrath. Blizzard ruined that when they added connected servers and allowed Allie and Horde to comingle.

Not a single new game/expansion to play at this years Blizzcon... Utter waste of time, just them money farming the easily led. Nice vid 😊

They definitely messed up the story over the years... But I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt with this upcoming saga. I really would like a "reset", a new starting point for the game going forward. I agree that they could be doing a lot more "WAR" in World of Warcraft 🤣 and I think it could make for more compelling stories. But I suppose they feel like that topic is sensitive these days, pitting player's factions against each other when there are real world countries also pitted against each other in similar fashion. Anyway... I am optimistic about the game and I hope they can deliver something great that will surprise everyone :)

I echo a lot of what you've said here. I was talking about this with a friend just earlier funnily enough, but I honestly think a massive part of this game's problem is the lack of interesting story. They've basically copy/pasted Legion ever since 2016, but I had such a blast during that expansion. Modern WoW has not moved very far from there, but then things like M+ were new, and you gave a shit about what you were doing. Even the borrowed power grind, artifact weapons, which people shit on later, was awesome at the time because you had all these important lore weapons in your hands. I rolled a DH at launch and getting a peek behind the curtain at what Illidan was doing during BC and having Kil'jaeden talk smack to me during the order hall campaign was so cool. Now it's the same formula, but without anything thematic to interest me. Battle for Azeroth should have been an awesome return to form, but its story was so meh. It was by and large identical to Legion, but all the stuff was played out by then. Even dungeons and raids, WoW's bread and butter, is unimpressive to me now. Encounter design hasn't evolved since Mists in my opinion, whereas before it was really creative and innovative from one expansion to the next. This runs the risk of turning into an essay, so I'll just wrap up by saying that I think the soul is just gone from the game now. It's designed by committee to fit an engagement metric. They're data analysts competing for your attention, instead of a bunch of geeks sat in a room saying 'do you know what would be really fucking cool?'

So youre absolutely not Alone . The gameplay And lore the wow turning into . Its too much . I Have retail uninstalled from like start of dragonflight. Not interested to change it.

I don't RP, but I've heard from a lot of RPers who share the same issues with the story Blizzard has been driving over the years. I agree though, nothing makes sense anymore because of lazy story telling. There is no more Horde vs Alliance. Anduin and Thrall should never be crying together.

Yeah honestly i think from now on classic wow is going to take over for the most part. Way more people have their attention on season of discovery rather than the war within. Retail is just so soulless.

i have dedicated a lot of time in wow when i was younger i really enjoyed it but now its like trying to reanimate e dead body, the game lost its essence their are trying to extend its life but i think the end will come sooner then later

It is always disappointing when bad and lazy writing ruins worlds and franchises you like. Looking at you Disney for Star Wars and Marvel. I have been, and still am, a diehard Star Wars fan. Star Wars infuses my life almost every day. But I have to choose not to get angry at Disney for the shovelware they produce, and focus on the aspects of Star Wars I love

i play since end of tbc wotlk = played the shit out of it and loved the shit out of it, fantastic way to bring the warcraft 3 stories to next lvl a bit sad for some of the decisions but overall up there cata = shite expansion with very enjoyable raids back in tier 11 otherwise really bad time for wow in general mop = best expansion when it comes to gameplay and content despite people hating on pandas still wod = worst expansion ever legion = overrated shite, mage tower and artifact (at the end of expansion) was ok the rest was kinda garbo bfa = actually enjoyed questing but i only played it when shadowlands came out for couple of weeks really enjoyed the game again unlocking allied races for some reason and i enjoyed the shit out of the new zones for both factions shadowlands = right up there with mop, awesome covenants, cool zones, the story was garbo but the story was garbo already in cata so like you said overepiced shit that noone in the end cares about i didn't play dragonshite actually quit when the new talents came out still during shadowlands, i hate the dragon theme and appeal it's really not my thing possibly on par with pandahaters here but it is what it is

Blizz continues to follow their trademark business model of recycle , reuse and literally offer nothing new or creative . Sad but true and the main reason why I refuse to purchase any expansion past BFA .

Dragon flight was so plain and boring they tried so hard to make good on Shadowlands that they made a total nothing burger I have my hopes and worries for this “saga” I worry it’s going to be more of that marvel meta comedy garbage that has plagued all fantasy series including my beloved witcher. But as a fan of the High elves since I played Warcraft 2 in 2008 on my uncles pc I cannot wait for Midnight and to see Quel’thalas revamped.

I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed. As was I when Diablo 4 came out. I wasn't that impressed with Sc2 or D3 either. I don't know when there will be another good mmo but hopefully it will be soon and we can move on from the lackluster expansions.
