Meet Ricky, a full-time Van-lifer who's been on the road for 3 years now... and absolutely LOVES it!
In this video, Ricky shares his story of how he came to live this way, after separating from his partner and leaving a mortgage behind, he chose life on the road instead of continuing on the housing ladder and "potentially never getting off"
He shares the highs and lows of living in a van... and if Ricky's words don't make you want to choose van-life... i don't know what will!
We also get a full tour of the outside and inside. The van is on the smaller side of some of the ones we've had on this channel but he's shown us how a van this size can be cosy, homely and have everything you need, even one of the most important things.... "a cold beer."
Thanks to Ricky for sharing his story and showing us around his home on wheels.
Make sure to check him out on Instagram and follow his journey!

I'm lucky to be able to afford rent/mortgage but refuse to pay these extortionate prices with hard earned cash. Plan to van full time from Feb. Go for it, I'm routing for you , you can do it 👊

Sold my flat during the COL crisis when I could no longer afford my mortgage. Lived on a narrowboat for a while but that didn't work out, so moved into my self build transit instead. I'm a 55 year young solo female (plus Moo my cockapoo!) I'm finally debt free, live on a little pension and have a small nest egg from the sale. When I was forced to sell, I thought it was all down hill, the end of the world, but I've rediscovered my zest for living. I've overcome much in life, but I see now that the hardest of times were actually my best teachers - its all about perspective eh? I dont have a te-LIE-vision, I get out in nature, read and started writing poetry again. I am utterly blessed to live this way. When I lost my flat, I found myself. What an absolute gift that has been. Good luck to the wonderful young man in this vlog (bloody hell I sound old! 😂) Absolute diamond! ❤ happy new year, peace and love to anyone who reads this 🙏

You will not meet someone more content and optimistic about van life than me, I can honestly say iv ever been stressed in any way about this life, I work about 3 months and spend the rest of the time in France and this country, the key is to try and be debt free so your outgoings are a minimum, I used to be coin chasing and have the good things in life, new cars, nice apartment and materialistic but I chose to change that literally overnight about 8yrs ago, now im living my own dream in a van, if I need something or extra money then I work for it and TBH my only worry is that I dont run out of milk for my tea..I took the shower out of my van to create more space etc plus its very very easy to keep clean in a van and as for me there are no down sides to van life but im sure many will say different....

Mortgage has gone up 2 and a half times, always struggling anyway, repossession is inevitable! Well do what we will & have too. A life with less financial stress & worry is sounding very appealing:) Good luck, all ❤

Im 51 now and during this business that went on i glanced over at my crystal ball and thought its going to be economic hell. 4th winter now, sold up, bought a van, fitted it out totally off grid, quit work now live a happy and quiet life. People ask how much does it cost....easy...just subtract mortgage/rent/bills which leaves motoring costs same as anyone. Good luck to everyone thats broken away from slavery and good luck to those in the future.

The cost of living in either rented or owned houses/flats etc is astronomical, if people can drive & are able to cope with small space living this is the way to go whether it's long or short term it's a roof over your head & a load of grief off your shoulders. Good luck to anyone who needs to live more cheaply & escape the grind of debt living can become. You don't need all the possessions you surround yourself with, once they're gone the freedom is amazing.

This is what I'm aiming for but with constant bills, living on my own and having a 9 year old daughter its been really tricky to save money as I'm sure a lot of you are in the same boat. Getting a loan is out as I don't want to borrow anything from those parasites. I was going to risk a cheap van for £2000 in April 2024 but if it breaks down seriously....then what? With a daughter I simply cannot take the leap without constantly worrying about her.

My wife and I had one child and we bought a cheap van that was inspected just before the purchase. however, it turned out that I had been cheated and the seller and the surveyor were on the same team. Cheap cars always have their risks, but if you know how to make repairs yourself, you'll save a lot of money. The van we are buying cost €2,400 and I had to do sheet metal work for €1,500. in practice, I rebuilt half of the bottom of the car, skirts and etc. plus the frame. 3,000€ went into the engine, chassis and brake repairs. In the end, the repair took 10 months and in the meantime we had another child. Last Summer We drove the car around Europe in 10 different countries and even though the car was much more expensive than it should have been, I don't regret it because now I know what my car is and I plan to keep it as long as I can get diesel. I just had bad luck, but that doesn't mean the same will happen to you. on my page you can find a few videos about the ducato and a trip by car. Greetings from Finland.

@@stuartmarsden4142 there’s a lot they’ll do to clamp down. Just like everything. A million ways they can make it difficult and/or far more expensive, making it unviable and unsustainable. @@thenordskovI hear ya. But, I honestly believe it'll get to the point where people will come together to fight the system. At the moment we're a bunch of disparate alt's who want out of the system to a greater extent. And we can still do that albeit not without some hassle. When the corporate puppet masters up the ante to the point where we cannot live this way, there will be rebellion en mass because we WILL come together to fight. And there are some powerful people with huge platforms who will fight for and with us. We have a system which has treated the individual like fools and they think they can continue to do so. But their propaganda machine, legacy media, is dying on its feet so control is not as easy as it once was. And covid backfired on them. I know a lot of folk who vaccinated in the beginning who now see it for what it was. Jericho is crumbling round the edges. Keep the faith brother 🙏

Credit to that lad but what's the plan over the next 10 years when the vans repairs keep getting more costly and it eventually needs replacing. Or when they meet someone else? By then house prices will have gone up even further and will be trying to re-enter the housing market. It's rare that someone increases their income with this living situation either. It might work out OK financially early on but that can quickly change and that asset once owned (house), is no longer there. Really hope it works out for the lad.

The elephant in the room. You still need to have access to a residential address for your driving licence, vehicle log book and insurance. So unless you have a friend or relative willing to let you use their address, and that can be problematic, I can’t see how it works in practice 🤷‍♂️ So, for example, imagine you get pinged going through a speed camera and the fine gets sent to the address listed on the vehicle log book? But you don’t actually ever live there….so the fine goes unpaid, then the bailiffs turn up? Or say the person willing to let you use their address is a single person and so can claim single person discount on their council tax, except now they can’t because technically you are living there as well? I’m not saying that’s it’s not possible. Just playing devils advocate

Valid point, but the vast majority of people will know at least one person who doesn't live on their own and is willing to let them use their address. I mean, how many people have no family, no friends and no colleagues? I'm sure there are other ways around it if you were unlucky enough to be in that situation, though.

You can get mailing addresses which scan and email your letters on if you want. Also if a decriminalised fine goes astray so what? I have known these be chased for a while and then written off. Who cares about credit ratings if you don't need credit.

For losers, you can't be serious. I've done all that's expected through my life, including family life, hard work throughout. Now approaching my retirement years & having all I've ever wanted...it's this very simple life Ricky has that not only inspires me, but is seeing life 'for what it is' It's real & it's about doing what each individual wants to do, without succumbing to society norms. It's freedom of living how one wants that matters most & I'm happy to see Ricky or any vanlifer doing just that. He's away from the negative trappings that most think they have to be in...he's used his head in what suits him, instead of following the crowd...for that I applaud him hugely. He's not a loser at all, he's more a winner...He's seen the light & that's something many people never see. I'm about to do what Ricky is doing & I would encourage my own kids to do the same. Life is for living.
