Well, this was a fun day.
In March, the City of San Diego holds its annual Spring Cleanup Event at Qualcomm Stadium. Residents of the city pay for services like this in their taxes or utility bills, allowing free entry for all city residents. With 7 Environmental Services trucks all parked in the stadium's lot, we thought it would be interesting to gain permission from the event supervisors, and watch various bulky items be crushed by the Pak-Mor rear loaders throughout the morning.
I was pleased to see that scrap metal and yard waste were directed to separate packers for eventual recycling, while the others handled general waste. Also, a box truck was present for hazardous waste and other things prohibited from the landfills...and a rolloff bin housed all the appliances that people brought to this event.
One of the coolest happenings of the day (go to 5:10) was seeing an older truck in the Pak-Mor rear load fleet, from the late 90s / early 2000s order. This could be the last of those trucks in the fleet today, and it probably takes an event like this for one of those to be brought back out and put to work. But work she did--that truck did just as well as the newer ones, from my observation.
Thanks for watching in HD, might add that watching at 2x speed makes the video go at a more reasonable rate.......Thanks to the drivers for chatting with us and being cool with the video...Y'all are appreciated.
